My Haircare Routine (I got a keratin treatment)

  • I had this treatment done a few months ago and I have enjoyed how it transformed my hair. There are down sides to the process and after care that I didn’t outline in the video, including my hair feeling dry and damaged on the ends the day I had the treatment done. Since then, I’ve had a trim and removed 1/4 inch of length and my ends are decent. My hair still falls out, like, at a normal rate. At first it was so sleek and flat to my head which looked strange to me but was also cool, since I’m used to having a ton of volume. The wave in my hair has kind of returned over the months but the majority of my texture is straight and frizz free. I am hesitant to do the treatment again, because I think the second time around it could do some marked damage. If you’re interested in doing keratin, watch vlogs on the process, research horror stories and consult with an experienced “keratin” stylist. Xo! Love ya

    for any curly girl who is considering a keratin treatment, i implore you to give your curly hair a fair chance for a while before you make a change to your texture. so many girls go for these treatments out of insecurity because our world makes curly girls feel shitty, and our hair can be hard to maintain. i personally think my curly hair is 100% worth these negatives, but you may not think so. even if you decide to go for these treatments, don’t do it out of the insecurity that every curly girl can relate to

    People coming for her in the comments need to realize that, at the end of the day it’s HER choice to do whatever she wants with her hair. Curly hair is not for everyone, it’s so hard to maintain and a lot of money and work involved. Some of you might love and accept your curly hair, some won’t. I have really curly hair and tried everything possible to maintain it since I really like it but there was nothing that worked for it, it would look like cotton as soon as it dried, I've tried masks, conditioners, natural remedies, professional stuff but it never got better. I am really tired of keeping my hair in a bun, I've done it for my hole life and I came to the conclusion that keratin is the only solution.
      I love my natural hair but it was keeping me from doing fancy hair styles, from just keeping it out of a bun without even touching it if I didn't want to.

    What you said about letting people down when you got keratin, that really spoke to me. I grew up with completely straight hair in a family that mostly had curly or wavy hair. And even though I found their hair beautiful, my sisters would like to straighten them and remove the curls. They said it’s because they were told straight hair looked better. I never understood why that was until I realized that having straight hair is much more well-represented in society than other hair textures. I grew up getting compliments for my hair and often got asked if I got treatments, and I was too young to understand the implications of that. I agree that curly hair needs more positive representation. But at the same time, I don’t want you to feel like you can’t do anything else with it.
    I think you absolutely have a right to do what you want with your hair. If you feel weighed down by the pressure of representing curly hair, then it’s no different from being pressured to have straight hair. Life goes by quickly, you should do what makes you happy and healthy.
    To anyone reading this, curly hair or straight hair or even no hair at all, you are beautiful and stunning! True beauty is always found in happiness and confidence. ♥️

I have curly hair and my sisters have wavy hair like my mom and my hair is less curly than my dad which is like an Afro. My half brother on my dads side also has wavy hair so I’m the only one with curly hair. I get a lot of compliments but it’s such a hassle if it was more manageable I would actually do nice things with it cause I do like half up half downs and ponytails like everyday.

      @@farahk190 my keratin lasts up to 6mths. It's VERY important to use only shampoos that are sulfate free. Keratin was the best decision I made for my curly hair. Less heat=less damage. You won't regret it. There's a keratin treatment just like a deep conditioner, don't get that cus it won't last. Make sure it's the straightener.

    • @sadieesther9721

      Right? My hair breaks off and I have virgin hair and wash twice a week and just touch up with the straightener but it would never grow past my shoulders until I got keratin! So none of the “how I grow my hair” videos of washing less and less heat and air drying do not work for me. And coconut oil made my hair feel nasty and I washed it out three times. Air drying actually makes my hair break more because it kinks the ends

      @@MsTipsycolada yeah, the upkeep is stressful and (for me) not worth it. curly hair doesn't come out in perfect, ringlet form right out of the shower. i was born with a frizzy, coarse, thick mess. forget about putting it up in a bun or ponytail. forget about maintaining a perfect hairdo right after a workout. what does it result in? frizz. i've tried everything : the curly girl hair method, deep conditioners, leave-in conditioners, going no poo..nothing has worked. trying all these products isn't cheap either.
      when i was younger, i was so insecure about my hair - i used to cry in bathrooms because all my friends had this perfect, silky texture that i could never have. these days, i straighten it which makes me happy.

    I did keratin treatments too. After the 1st one, I was happy with the result. And I ended up doing 3 treatments. But after the last one, I realised that I was loosing lots of hair which had never happened before, even though I used to relax my hair for years. Even if it's called "treatment" it's a very harsh process on hair and hairdressers don't say it. So, everyone won't react the same of course, but this is not something I would recommend.

The relaxing effect really is temporary but it makes it a lot easier to get heat damage and straighten your curls away completely. I’m happy that this is working for you and making your life easier. It takes such a long time to create a good relationship with your hair texture when no one in you family really interacted with it that way when you were growing up. I love my curly hair, but nothing was working for it.
    I've tried masks, creams, conditioners, natural remedies, sprays, shampoos, professional salon stuff, NOTHING worked, as soon as it would get fully dry it started to look like cotton.
    Many people told me that they would pay for my hair but I don't believe them, keratin was my only solution, I was REALLY tired of having to keep my hair up in a bun ALL THE TIME, I couldn't do a pony tail, I couldn't do fancy hairstyles, I couldn't do anything, just a regular ugly bun, not even just letting it free without touching it because I didn't feel like it.
    I'm so much happier now, I curl my hair anyways cause, again, I like it curly, but my natural hair just didn't work.
    Don't feel sorry or that you let down people because you got keratin, it's your head you do what you want, people just see a little part on RUclips, haven't you thought that maybe her hair looked good just for videos but then, when she would turn off the camera she had to put it up on a bun, or have it fluffy and big all the time? She also has soooo much hair, I totally understand her.

    I knew this girl with naturally curly hair who had a keratin treatment done. It looked great, shiny and glossy, up until she washed her hair. After that, the curl started coming back, but it did not look cute, it just looked un-kept. I saw her again months later and she was complaining about how awful her hair looked... and to tell you the truth, she was right. Now, I don't know how committed she was to taking care of her hair and getting it back on track (considering she was also dyeing it), but what she claimed is that to her, keratin did more damage than it did good.
    I myself have naturally curly hair and ever since I learnt how to take better care of it, I'm starting to appreciate it more. Sure, there are plenty of things I could be doing better, and I agree with you on how time consuming it can be, but I'm super grateful for it. Not to say you're in the wrong for choosing to have your hair straight! I'm just glad straight hair has stopped being the norm as much as it used to be, and I appreciate you taking the time to talk about your relationship with your curly hair. :)

I love how easy my day gets when I get my hair straight. I’ve tried HARD to make peace with my curls (and even everyone compliments my curly hair )but I simply think it doesn’t compliment my face, my style, my height... When I was younger I didn't know how to manage my curls and it shook my confidence so much. I also love the straight look though. I understand going through phases of being frustrated at how much work it takes to take care of curly hair properly and its something that people that don't have that hair type will never understand. So props for rocking the curls and also making the choice to do what suits your lifestyle best. 😍😘❤❤❤

    If your hair is extremely oily and full of product build-up, you should cleanse before applying Olaplex #3, otherwise you may end up wasting a lot of it, as it won’t penetrate the hair properly, and it’s not cheap.
    *Pro* *Tip* *for* *washing* : Doing a double cleanse using your shampoo can be extremely beneficial, and is considered the proper method by hairstylists. The first wash should be focused on the roots and rinsed through the ends to remove the oil at the scalp and most of the product build-up. Once you do that, you will find that the second wash will be much easier, the shampoo will lather easier, spread through the hair much easier, and you won’t have to do as much scrubbing, which can cause a bit of breakage.

      Thanks for this! My hair is so oily, I'm always mystified when people can go even a day without washing 😭😂

    • @BlackThorndRose
      @BlackThorndRose 5 лет назад +1

      Kate Chamomile You’re welcome! It may seem like two washes is a lot of product, but you’re actually using more when you have to constantly add more shampoo to get to it lather because all that oil\product is mixing in. Also if you’re hair is super oily, I would recommend keeping any conditioners, masks, and leave-in treatments off your scalp, maybe use a detangling spray there if you’re hair gets tangled easily. And if you’re an avid dry shampoo user, spray it into your roots before bed, rub it in, give your hair a quick brush through, and let it do its magic overnight. It will help keep the oil at bay.
      Hope that helps!

    • @gabyclimbs
      @gabyclimbs 5 лет назад +2

      Hey, you seem to know a lot about Olaplex. I tried it for the first time yesterday, the results were great, but I lost a lot of hair during the washing afterwards.... i used to loose a lot, then it stopped, now it started again,.... it was really a lot.. and long hair from the root :( I am a bit worried.... Thanks in advance if you have an advice on this

    • @BlackThorndRose
      @BlackThorndRose 5 лет назад +2

      Gabrielle Rochette Hi! I would love to help you! I can assure you it wasn’t the Olaplex, so we can rule that out. But since I don’t have much to go on, I’ll give you some general examples for now. So on average a person sheds around 100 strand of hair per day. But let’s say you wear your hair up often, or your hair is curly and/or tangles easily, the hair that sheds daily gets mixed in with the rest of the hair. So when you go to wash it, as it untangles, all that hair that has already shed from the follicle will come out all at once. Or, if you gave your hair and/or scalp a good brushing during the wash or treatment, it might’ve been hair that needed to shed but was clogged by product at the follicle.
      But if you feel like this is completely out of the norm for you, there could be several other factors that can play in here. Do you know why this happened before and why it stopped? It could be the quality of products you are using, or the amount of product, both could be clogging the follicles. But there are also things like diet, smoking, and hormones that can play a factor as well.
      Hopefully I was able to help and maybe even answered your question, but if I didn’t mention anything that you can relate it to, tell me a little bit more about your hair and the brands/products you use, and any other info you think might be important and we can go from there.

I have naturally curly, thick hair and it’s a struggle to find products that help it look decent, not to mention hairdresser who knows how to cut it right. It’s a daily struggle, but I personally look better with my curly hair. It’s a personal decision and it’s your right to do whatever you want to do with your hair 👍🏻💜. Maybe you’ll decide to go curly again in the future and maybe not. Either way, it’s a personal choice and anyone who criticizes is jealous of how beautiful you are.

    • @kelliecook4574
      @kelliecook4574 5 лет назад +15

      Nora C
      1. there are ingredients in the treatment that can possibly release formaldehyde, the gas. The shit that is used to preserve corpses!
      2. Keratin treatments require a HIGH amount of heat, so after the “smoothing” effects of the treatment wears off, you can be left with dry, brittle, thin hair
      3. Keratin fills in your already damaged hair and makes it look good for a while. It doesn’t actually fix the problem. The best way to “fix” hair is to cut the damage off. And no shade, I love watching her, but I don’t think her hair looks very healthy rn. But maybe her hair is naturally coarse 🤷🏽‍♀️
      4. If you want your curl pattern back after the treatment, it will be hella hard to bring back cuz you pretty much damaged it. So this straightening thing is not so temporary as it seems.
      5. It’s recommended that you have a treatment no more than 3 times a year. But even so many people complain about losing their hair.
      6. It’s called a “treatment” but it’s not! I would say it’s chemicals...but everything is chemicals. Sooo, the difference is treatments make your hair actually healthier by adding nutrients, this just adds a bunch of harmful stuff into your hair to make it *look* healthier. Your hair is made of keratin so the keratin in the “treatment” just fills in the damaged holes of your hair

    We have very similar hair curl, and my strands are SUPER coarse especially as I age. I just did my own treatment for the first time and did my first wash last night and omfg it is the BEST thing I've ever done for my hair! I used to get the Copolla one done about 7 years ago and it was awesome but the price was too much for me to maintain after moving to Vegas. Hair care tech has really improved since my last pro keratin treatment. I was honestly scared to do it myself but it actually rained today and I was able to walk around in the drizzle and no frizz! I would never be able to do that before, even if my hair was in a bun with an umbrella in hand! I didn't even use a flat iron today or last night after washing. Just a round blowdryer. I'm in love lol and I can't wait for a 2nd treatment. I just hope the 2nd one takes the curl away even more.

You can really see that there is thought and work put into every second of it. Every sentence is important and worded thoughtfully. (And also she invests some money into them,e.g. example clothing.) I also really enjoy the voice-overs. sometimes its nice just seeing somebody talk but i feel like these kinds of videos are much more pleasing to watch and more interesting. Ur hair is beautiful but sadly curly hair can't be brushed dry... I usually do it damp 😊😘

    I totally understand why you did the treatment - with curly hair you never know how it will look, it’s in control of itself 😃 but I must say your curls are lovely!!! You look stunning with straight hair as well but with curly you’re just gorgeos. Mother nature knows its work - hope you’ll come back to it eventually😊 it’s worth the effort

    Gorgeous hair! I have been thinking about doing this too. After having kids my hair changed from slightly wavy to very wavy almost curly but I can't seem to master the curly hair. Love straight shiny hair right now❤

    So your saying keratin is damaging to your hair but it's just for appearance of health and it will help your hair grow. . .???? 😕

    Great tip for reducing tangles. Don't flip your head upside down to wrap a towel on your hair. Twist your wet hair low and place the lengths on the top of your head then lean slightly forward and then wrap a towel over. Makes a huge difference x

    We absorb energy with our hair (as in our bodies) so when you wash your hair aka water goes through your whole body it carries the energy with it... For example when you haven't taken a shower for a longer period you'll start to feel more tired, more stuck up but when u shower the detained energy is carried away by the water makin u feel more refreshed and envigorated

      I'm sure she still loves her curls. Straight hair is just easier to take care of and doesnt require conditioner to style it. Curly hair is beautiful but its alot of work, conditioner, leave in and deep conditioner, and the same goes for wavy hair. It seems like girls with anything but pin straight hair have a lot of endless fights with frizz and sometimes it's lots of work to keep it away. It gets pretty draining. If i had to guess I would say shes doing this bc its easier and its a break from the constant upkeep of having to style and restyle her hair.

      Curly hair is definitely beautiful but it's really tiring. She's a mother and she has a lot of responsibilities besides that. So the treatment as I think isn't out of hate, but had to. That's my opinion

      @@EgyptianCurls keratin treatments aren't permanently. I think after months you'll see waves are coming back and you need to do the treatment again. I'm not talking of an experience but I've seen girls doing this, not sure about the details.
