Originally, Magnus was going to be the rival, with Sentinel as the leader. But it was reversed so the popular character could be the leader. But he said he's really glad because it made the obscure character memorable.

I think there’s something so refreshing about the fact that IDW2 Sentinel Prime is actually decent. Think about it. After three iterations of him being back-to-back xenophobic jerks, he’s written as a flawed but respectable leader for all Cybertronians. A bit testy and arrogant, sure, but he’s far from the egomaniac he was in Animated or the Decepticon in all but faction he was in DOTM. I’m honestly sick of the trend that IDW started of “all the Primes, Thirteen or otherwise, are terrible except for Optimus”. It leaves Optimus with no one to look up to and reduces him to the only one who matters because he’s the only one who dared to challenge the system that put him in place. Let him have someone, anyone to look up to that isn’t Alpha Trion and make his predecessors not 100% evil (the only one who can stay evil is Nominus Prime).

Something to note about Sentinel Prime that wasn't mentioned in the video... He is mentioned in the Covenant of Primus book and has a design very much inspired by the Animated version but with more traditional proportions. So like he doesn't have the giant chin but still includes that bolt in the chin, he doesn't have the guant upper body with skinny legs but is still clearly a snow plow. And this version of Sentinel Zeta Prime is the ONLY Prime that is not one of the 13. Yeah, for some weird reason the book immediatly goes from the end of the 13 Primes to Sentinel Zeta Prime and then it goes from him to Optimus Prime but Optimus is the 13th Prime so there are literally only 14 Primes in the entire history of Cybertron... and technically that's not even really true because Nexus Prime is a combiner making him actually 5 Primes all on his own. Also, noticing that Sentinel Prime's colors are different in nearly every itteration but some combination of Blue, Yellow, Orange, or Red seem to always be recurring.
2:19 you have me thinking. The only things I've ever seen as semi-consistent with sentinel are the fact he's op's predecessor, his sword/shield combo, and that he's antagonistic towards optimus. Granted I haven't read ANY comics so forgive me if I'm wrong on that front but 2/3 of the versions I've seen he was either a turn coat or just a straight up jack@$$ to optimus (which I get but still). I'm looking forward to what they have in store for him here
I’m super curious on how they’ll portray Sentinel in the movie, since in Animated he has more of narcissistic/bully character type of vibe, Bayverse had him be a “I’ll do whatever it takes” type of villain, but in the comics with major roles it varied towards either VERY manipulative and evil, to more closer to a grey area character. Like you said, there’s always some level of smarminess to him. And with him looking like a younger prime, instead of an older one, I immediately get the feeling that he could be closer towards Animated. For me it really is a “how much of an asshole will he be?” Essentially 😂

In another universe, he will be the Big Boss of Weyland-Yutani.

I might be remembering it wrong (it was a few years ago I read the story after all) but I believe that in The War Within it was hinted (possibly by Megatron?) that Sentinel Prime was not a Matrix bearer.
I find idw Sentinel hilarious. He was this big bright orange bad guy, trying to Make Cybertron Great Again. And then he just gets knocked into a hole a by a bird and dies. A fitting end to an obvious allegory to a terrible man.
Sentinel's character arc of DOTM really showed how screwed up the Autobots really were, as violent and no better than the Decepticons if it weren't for Optimus Prime to take his place and reshape the morals. However, Optimus was probably a false prophet. Hes still a hero, but only to our eyes because he saved humanity, but so totally misguided the Autobot legion and misworded Sentinel's code, "Freedom was the right of all sentient beings". Optimus promoted the freedom of life, but with Sentinel's Autobot Decepticon peace treaty to rebuild cybertron AND his warnings to humanity, he offered the freedom of CHOICE.
Remember, there were other autobots boarding the Ark. The autobots who stayed behind, that was Optimus and the autobots we know today. If Optimus boarded the ship, he as well would have the same views as Sentinel.
11:25 Counterpoint: Minicons serve that exact purpose on the Giant Planet in _Cybertron._ They can fit into place the larger bots can't, making certain repairs (at least) easier. Not to mention the skyscrapers we build on a fairly regular basis, and all our already gargantuan vehicles (cranes, excavators) that could only be made larger and more efficient with Cybertronian tech.
Stuff like this is why humans and Cybertronians work so well together when willfully collaborating. Enslaving humanity on the other hand was bound to backfire at some point due to either human revolution or Autobot intervention, if not both
