  • Today I'm going to remove the rear tires and check the rear bushings for wear and we're going to check for side play and I'll show you where to put the nylon spacers to correct that problem and you can get them from partstree.com Thanks Jim
    Please ask questions in the comments. I am transitioning away from email. This way, people can get help from others' questions. Thanks!

    Jim, Can I remove the rear right fender easily to put in the shims made of plastic ???

      @jimjackson9381  11 месяцев назад +1

      Well, it depends on which fender you’re calling the right fender as you’re sitting on it or as you’re looking at it when it’s standing up, I would think the fender on the side opposite of the differential would be the easiest one to takeoff and put your spacers on. Jim.

    Jim I noticed on my father in law 30 + year old snapper that the tire on the differential side is worn more than the other. There is still tread but I notice a big difference. I plan to switch the two but that requires switching the axle flange. I was able to break the bolts with air wrench.

      Don't the rims unbolt from the axle flange. On most snappers the axle flanges on the right side is 1 1/8" and the left side is 3/4". Thanks Jim

      No, it sounds like your seal is bad inside you dust cap that’s the only way it can leak out at that point. Jim

    Just watching this, I was worried when I had not gotten the left tube on right, and it was not straight, so it had lube leaking out, but once I re-tightened the clamp with the boot back on the shoulder evenly, it's not leaking now. But what I was worried about, was it supposed to have that oil in under the boot. It seems that is ok, by watching this video. But was it because I put 80-90 lube in both cases? I had no idea how much to put in so I drained some back out. I replaced it with my grease gun by squirting several shots back in both cases.

      It sounds like your boot was just crooked and that was the issue. Jim

    Jim, I mentioned in a different thread that I just acquired a 2005 series 23. There is about 1/4 -3/8" side to side play in the rear axle. ...also...I don't have a measuring gauge, but I can see some vertical slack on both sides. Please refer me to the correct video for detailed instructions regarding bushing replacement. I'm sure I'll crack open the chain case while I have this puppy apart. This is gonna be fun!

    Your videos have been a great help. The machine I have does not have a grease fitting on the left side rear bushing nor one on the shift lever pivot point. Also the caps/boots are different. Model 3321518KVE / Ser 01208051 has Kohler 15 does this mean my machine is an older model??

      @@jimjackson9381 has that rectangle steering wheel. That right side cap/boot is larger than what you show and it is obsolete. But the local shop had two and I got both. Also there is a collar with a set screw that is cut out to partly fit over the bushing. At least I think it is the bushing. Not sure if the set screw was suppose to be tighten or not but I did.

    • @jimjackson9381

      @@raytoppin7533 You want to loosen the setscrew put the collar over the end of the bearing take a punch in the hole in the collar in tap it to the right make sure it is tight then tighten the setscrew that is what holds your axle to the bearing you do not have bushings let me know if you have a problem. @@jimjackson9381 is the collar suplose to rotate with the axle or be stationary? I didn't use the punch. Bothe the right and left where lose. So what I did was made sure the indentaion was over bearing lip(?) and tighten the set screw.

    It required a puller and heating the wheel flange with an oxyacetylene torch to cherry red to get the wheel mount flange off (and the ears bent). The bushings turned out to have egg shaped out of round holes. Can you get new ones to press in?
