PVD Physical Vapor Deposition. Cool technology. I’ve use it to apply TiN to steam turbine blades for extended wear resistance. Extremely tough stuff. If I remember my conversation with the guys at the PVD shop we used, the gases used can affect coloration.

I swapped my black s30v camo scales to flytanium cf, so I'm waiting for the next batch of these to put my camo scales on
I agree, best variant of PM2. But, won’t get sucked into the Spyderco sprint/exclusive crap. I have a few (teal DF2, Meerkat, M4 Jade PM2) but not chasing those damn things around. I could get another manual MT Socom Elite for what they ask on the secondary, not that those are easy to find either.
Ya the best way to combat that is just to avoid it. New variants will always be available.

I've seen one with a broken blade, apparently from just being flicked open.
Break was from the Spidey hole, straight down to the blade edge.
Saw the exact same failure in a grey Para3.
Puzzling, as both were essentially unused.

Spyderco knives are priced too high based on the materials used. Mostly hype, my Ontario Rat 1 in D2 for $38 is a much better value and will do everything this knife will do.
