    Good shout. And some smart stacking. I've had my eyes open For the old junk lately. Shillings are my fav as they're so iconic.

    Neat to see the British junk silver, thank you for sharing! I'd buy 50% silver for the right price but also for the cool history factor. 👍

    Much of the pre 1920 got melted down, during the early 70s and again during the 80s. Bus collectors were keeping them, and other people, and they got then, three times face value. Much of it then got shipped to Belgium, and holland and were melted, so nobody knows what is left now.

      It would be interesting although probably impossible to calculate what has survived in many old coins

    Good job done on the silver at spot. I've noticed it has been more difficult finding junk silver below / at spot.

    i picked up a lot of 6 silver coins today off ebay for 11 USD plus a few in shipping, .(15 total for 6 silver coins)..any ways a 1941 florin (2 schilling ) was in with the mix, so basically for about 2 and some change USDs, i think i got a deal (silver is currently just under 26 an oz).....i think if its a large enough coin i may buy more of them, and also those half crowns like very nice!! gl!!

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  Год назад

      They're a nice coin
      so pre 1920 is sterling 92.5% silver and 1920-1946 are 50% silver. For future reference 1947 onwards are just base metals 👌🏽

    I would steer clear of 50% silver because of the added bulk of the other 50 %. I would steer clear of 50% silver because of the added refining costs because of the other 50 %. With the former in mind, I would purchase 50% silver if the cost was low enough. I prefer pre 1920 UK silver coins.

    Go on eBay now for junk silver. Some guy has a premium after fees of £24.56 AN OUNCE over spot. Just not worth it.

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  2 года назад +2

      Crazy. I can't believe people are paying that. Not for circulated coins. Sure if they're mint state examples. Buying the dip only works of you're paying a lower price 😁

    Particularly enjoyed this as i am comparing the junk aussie silver that is mostly the same.
    As you know i have a little 50%. As you said if you get it cheaply it is great, just storage issues with silver are even worse with 50% making me not want it as the base of my stack

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  3 года назад +1

      Yes it's a very good point, basically doubling the storage issue. I did see some aussie junk available too actually but wasn't ready at that price. Interesting looking back how the perception of cash has changed through generations

    Beat way to stack silver in the UK as does not attract VAT at 20% which new bullion will from dealers. Plus many thieves will just ignore it as rubbish not worth taking

    • @SovereignSaurus

      I think so. I do like shiny bullion too but not at typical dealer prices 🤣

    If you wanted to extract just the silver from these coins, what would be the best method? I have about 20 pounds of casino tokens that contain silver, and was wondering about the best way to get the silver out.

    • @SovereignSaurus

      Good question.... I would weigh up enough to take to a refiners. The actual chemical processes I've heard on 2 channels.... Mount Baker mining and metals and another called Sreetips

    Nice video. Is there a place in your country to sell old coins? ?

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  Год назад

      People use online places like Facebook and eBay and also some groups for precious metals, there are gold and jewellery shops which you can sell to and then specialist bullion dealers. You could go to refiners or scrap dealers if they are sold for the metal weight only. If they're more numismatic pieces coin shows would be an option too

    Another great video pal. I have lots of British and British colonial silver. Some 925, some debased. Somebody I was speaking to told me its harder to sell non pure silver. What do you think? (Not that I'm planning on selling but is he right?)

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  3 года назад +1

      It depends... If you have 5kg of fine silver brits and I've got 5kg of fine silver (in 8kg of old coins) and the price is the same, you would probably shift the brits first...
      But... You going to sell those brits at melt price when you paid spot plus 20, 30, 50% ?

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  3 года назад +1

      I'm rarely paying over melt for old coinage. Easy for me to shift 5kg at melt price more difficult to shift the same in bullion coins at 50% over spot to try and get my premium and vat back

    So what's the value of 400g of pre 1947 coins

    • @SovereignSaurus
      @SovereignSaurus  2 года назад

      so 400g X 50% = 200g X spot price 0.56pence about £112 GBP intrinsically. You might get a little more selling nicer examples
