This was the only song he said he kept from the hiatus era. This, I believe, was recorded in 2007 which makes the weight of this track so much heavier as he was going through it. He wrote one of the verses in rehab 2005 and the others I’m not sure of but this was king Mathers era material

He said this was the only song he wrote while in rehab so obviously it was important to include. Just because it has a different vibe doesn’t mean it doesn’t belong. You’re not familiar with this album so I can see why you would think it’s outta place but it makes perfect sense to the fans of this album. Relapse tells the journey of his addiction…the ups and downs, a day in the life of an addict, how he became an addict etc. Even the skits fit perfectly with the theme

I’m sure Em wrote this song for himself but in that way he writes it for everyone else who needs strength to get by .. I think Em has done that throughout his career.. he’s always shown love for someone else .. his daughter/brother/fans .. I think that’s a huge part of why Em has a lot of “Stans” because he’s helped them get out of the hole they feel at times

This and dejavu definitely stand out because they’re more mature. He’s talked a lot about how he had to re-learn how to rap on this album. You can hear he’s not confident delving into his personal bag on this album.

I neve clicked so fast in a video in my life lol I LOVE this song…it was actually the second one I listened from Em (1st was Mockingbird) and it means so much to me….can you imagine my shock hearing the rest of this album lol

Also, I believe even if he made this song while in rehab you can already get the vibes he went with for “Recovery” later

I actually just finished the vid and it’s actually one of the songs he made while in rehab and it’s the only one he wanted to keep it from that time…I think you were right it’s a song for him and he decided to out it to end the album but in the end he didn’t want to end it on a low note so: Crack a bottle. I also think it’s a total mood change from the rest of the album but I like it too much to complain lol

Look at it in the sense of, after the overdose and having to face everyone. Having to think about what they thinking about you, at the time trying to find a way to be positive within yourself.

The only song Eminem wrote while in rehab. The video is a tribute to Detroit, which was going through a horribly bad time economically. The sing song makes sense with the video bc of the way it’s filmed but unfortunately doesn’t include last verse. I think you have to be from Detroit to understand all the meanings of what he chose to film. You’re right this was personal. Detroit has an us against the world mentality. It seriously gets old having to defend your city.
But you’re right Recovery would be much better fit.

I prefer the song than the music video. I believe it is the "beautiful” music video where one of the verses was cut from the video.

I think he wrote this as a message to his daughters. And fans. He uses music to express himself and at this time in his life he had to get something off his chest.

Yeah I feel the people who love this song heard it as a single. Eventhough I like the song I never once felt it had a place in Relapse.

I never really understood why they left the 3rd verse out of the official music video. Maybe they thought it would be too long? 🤷‍♀️
I agree with you: It is such a themed album, and this song does not fit, though I like it individually. But when you have an Eminem playlist, it does not matter anyway. 😉

I think it's the radio version and yeah the full song is too long.

So I think the way it fits with the drugs and the downers he was taking ( I'm not looking for extra attention I just want to be just like you
Blend in with the rest of the room
Maybe just point me to the closest restroom ) ( hinting towards the drug making him sick??? )
    making him depressed and thinking
I'm a addict and look how the world views us (broken, fiend, sad, angry, hopeless, ugly etc. ) so I'm going tell them and myself that we are beautiful ( I believe the TRUE meaning is hidden behind the sad lyrics in this song )
idk i could be wrong here but please let me know what you guys think
also love your guys Em reactions

Em has been known to drop songs like this one before, 'Hailey's Song' would be an example

Well, if you think about the raise and fall of Detroit as the motor city and what it meant for the US maybe there could be a link to the song. 'Detroit you're still beautiful'. Dunno, just a thought 😅
