[Cold is the arctic sea Far are your arms from me Long will this winter be Frozen in Frobisher Bay Frozen in Frobisher Bay] [1] “One more whale,” our captain cried “One more whale, then we'll beat the ice.” But the winter star was in the sky The seas were rough, the winds were high. [CHORUS] [2] Deep were the crashing waves That tore our whalers mast away Dark are these sunless days Waiting for the ice to break. [CHORUS] [3] Strange is a whaler’s fate To be saved from the raging waves Only to waste away Frozen in this lonely grave. [CHORUS]
Love love love that you stay 'small' - that is, your gorgeous sound is pure, unelectrified, unorchestrated, unruined. I'd listen to you sing the dictionary.
I spent 8 months waiting and $2500 going to Chicago to see them. It was all electric instruments, an overwhelming drum, flashing lights. Who are you guys? I’ve loved you for years now but I hated that concert. Even with earplugs, I couldn’t stand the noise. My husband left and sat outside for the entire concert. There was quite a crowd out there.
I was watching Dave's stream, and got such a jump scare when the intro music started. I hadn't heard this song before, but I think I'm actually in love with it already. One of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, I think. Edit: All your voices are just perfect in this. Beautiful JD lead, beautiful Robbie high harmony, beautiful Andy bass
God, I can't seem to find the right words to express just how beautiful that was. It punched me in the guts and made me cry but in a good way I suppose. Anyway, those harmonies were simply among the best I've ever heard
G'day boys - your voices are extraordinary, both individually and together in the 3 part harmony. I was a bit concerned when Dave left last year, that without his deep, rich tones to "fill out" the overall sound of how the four of you all worked together in unison, that the total package would suffer. However, I believe you have taken the various harmonic aspects to a level or two above what it had already been before. Magnificent!
This is a great song I hadn't heard before! I'm still hoping to see a cover of "The Big Hewer," sung by David Coffin and "White Squall" by Stan Rogers.
Been A LONG LONG Time since I absolutely thought Of nothing Just sat down And Enjoyed with a clear Mind. Thanks Longest Johns for washing all the trouble Away with this one. Love you Lads A lot❤
I would love it for you to do a cover of an amazing Scottish folk song called 'Leis An Lurrigan'. The best version (so far?) for reference is by the group 'Scatter The Mud.' The song itself is usually in English with just the title phrase in Scottish Gaelic. Its about a brave captain facing a terrible storm on his ship. Fun fact, since the title phrase can mean both 'On The Lurrigan' or 'With Lurrigan' no one knows if 'Lurrigan' is the name of the ship or the captain.
Beautiful! I sang an arrangement of this in children's choir back in 2001 and fell in love with it, and have rarely heard it since. Thank you for the trip down memory lane
I've been hoping for a cover of this song for a while now and of course you did not disappoint! Thank you so much for this wonderful rendition! 💙 On that note, I think "The Miners" by The Elders would suit you really well too!
This is the Longest John’s I love. I spent $2500 to see you guys in Chicago. I could have gone to any local rock concert if that as what wanted. Ditch the drum and the psychedelic lights. If you need a drum, get a bodhran. You guys are brilliant. You don’t need that crap. I’ve been listening to you guys for about six years now. I’d send you everything I have if I wasn’t living on SSI.
Wow, what sweetness, what emotion! I have tears in my eyes, and goosebumps. Just what I needed after a rough day. Thanks a lot, you're wonderful, guys !
Money, usually. Also being compelled by those with more money and power than they have. (see also: people who risk their lives in coal mines, and oil-drilling rigs in the ocean -- like whaling was, it's all in pursuit of energy sources. Note that the people making the most money are not the ones risking their lives).
Haunting. Somber and haunting. That's all I could come up with. Gave me chills in 100 °F weather. Y'all just keep knocking it farther and farther out of the park, the park isn't even in sight anymore.
Robbie, your high harmony line is incredible, impeccable, as always. Everything was perfectly beautiful, I just had to comment how much I'm enjoying that high harmony! ✨😊 [Help, people, is that called a tenor harmony? 🤔]
yeah, i'd argue it's within a tenor range (at least from a choral perspective - i'm a tenor in that context, and what robbie sings here is nearly entirely in my range)
I have a humble request, Johns that are the longest! I am a fan of Tom Lewis, I think you should look into doing one of his songs you guy's vocal chemistry is so good 😁 I really like one called "the Bosun, the gunner and me"
Seconded. I'd also recommend "A Shanty for Singing" (Especially if they can get a collab with him on that), since he was inspired to write that song by the Wellernan swell during the COVID lock-downs, and TLJ are partly responsible for that...
I don't know if y'all are still taking requests for this series but I think you three could do an incredible cover of Nothing Else Matters by Metallica!
I wanted to write "adequate," but this was Awesome. (You would say "Brilliant.") BTW, if you are looking for more Canadian icons to cover, look at Spirit of the West. www.youtube.com/@SpiritOfTheWest
It's beautiful to hear the blend of your voices. So pleasing to sing. I love how James Gordon brings everyone to join in with him ruclips.net/video/HgU-GRa4JNg/видео.html

Amen, amen! I've seen too many good bands go wrong trying to add instruments, high production levels, extensive sets, and lose the music

Beautiful, Gents! How amazing that three voices can sound so rich all on their own ♥
Fancy seeing you here. 🙂 Glad you're enjoying it too.
Somber and heartwrenching... you can really hear the grief, not only for themselves, but for their families.

That's so funny! I can just imagine. 😆 Yes! It was indeed very beautiful. 😍
I remember being surprised the first time I heard Andy cover the bass part, dude has an impressive range
@@-rockmusiclover-You're so right!
Being from Frobisher Bay now called Iqaluit, I had to do a double take when this crossed my feed haha. Great song!
I feel like this song just saved my soul. Gorgeous harmonies, guys! ❤

Beautiful harmonies again & a hauntingly beautiful song😍. I had to switch my heated throw on listening to this very chilly song.😂
This is incredible.
It's not very often that I get to add something to my "songs that made me cry at least once" playlist
Great song and cover! I think you would also do a great cover of The Big Hewer and White Squall.
Love, love the harmony, and Andy's bass (heart) (heart) and his velvet brown eyes looking deep into the music
I’m a bit in love with Andy’s soulful eyes❤

Gorgeous harmonies! So soothing yet sorrowful
Lovely to hear another beautiful frozen song from you - here's hoping this crew do better than the ones in White Frontier.
First time hearing this, and I love it immediately. Gorgeous arrangement too. October 10th!
Please do Antigua Gravyard next ❤
I second Antiguan Graveyard!! For the fiftieth time! Please!! 🤞
