Cancel culture: easy way out to escape the burden of truth seeking and listening to both sides of the argument.

Another way to think about it is that it's a result of disregarding the whole story and so you're left picking sides. Canceling is like a solution to end the conversation, which is obviously not good ! As a society we have to keep talking about issues so we can further educate ourselves and others.

I love how people talked about cancel culture but I hate it that we still need to be asked if we are pro or against it. In all means, cancel culture should be cancelled. From its term itself, it’s wrong. Instead of promoting cancellation, just go promote education. Education of all the social issues to address properly what exactly is being oppressed or what was wrong. We need education in order to give people the place of betterment and change. We don’t need cancel culture; the society needs moderation, modification, and the learning. Your validity in life should not stop at your social media accounts.

As a victim of “cancel culture” before it was even called cancel culture 5 years ago, it really took a toll on my mental health. To the point na it affected me, my friends, the school I went and my family up until now. I won’t get into details but that’s the toxic thing about cancel culture, ginagamit nila ‘yon for clout, they think they are better than you, they think na you don’t have space for change/growth and sumasakay na lang yung iba sa hate train kasi that’s the trend. Sometimes cancel culture can urge a person to end their life, minsan dahil dito hindi sila nakukuha sa trabaho or sa school na papasukan lalo na kung ang petty lang nung dahilan kung bakit sila na-cancel in the first place. Especially kung minor pa yung kina-cancel niyo, which is yung nangyari sakin before, you’re ruining their lives instead of educating them.

I kinda hate cancel culture. A part of me loves the catharsis of bringing someone down because of horrible things they did, but another wants to give them a chance. We're punishing people for what they've done, which by itself has also become toxic. I like to think that we should teach and help the people we cancel. But the people we help should also be examined at a case by case basis. We should give people a chance.

Let us examine your words. "A part of me loves the catharsis of bringing someone down..." Talaga? Kahit pa ano ang idugtong mo diyan. Meron intrinsically mali. 2. "We're punishing people..." Kahit ano pa ang idugtong mo diyan, may mali. Who are you to punish someone. 3. "I like to think that we should teach and help the people we cancel." Talaga? Sino-sino kayo? Sigurado ka bang pare-pareho kayo ng isip? Who are you to "teach" another person? Teach the person what? And you will teach a person base on what qualifications? At talaga tinulungan mo after? Paano and where is your proof. You are a classic case of "virtue signalling". Dahil Kinolawt (call out) mo ang isang tao, automatically ambait mo na. Sa tingin mo.

Very informative, educational and relevant topic. Ang ganda how they were able to dissect the difference of cancel culture versus call out culture, the extremities and limitations of cancel culture, causes and effects of cancel culture. What left me hanging is what if the one getting cancelled is your friend? Where do you draw the line? Let’s say you built a strong foundation with that person who turned out to be sexual predator then nacancel sa social media. Are you gonna cancel him too? This is a serious question and asking for a potential subtopic.

    • @NatalyaAdea
      @NatalyaAdea 4 года назад

Good question!! 🤔 For me, if you really are a good friend and want your friend to change. Aba, that person needs to pay for his crime and face the consequences. Hopefully, matuto siya doon. If natuto siya I will still accept that person as my friend pero kung inulit niya after the consequences given that’s the time iiwan ko siya. Lost niya mawalan ng good friends.

Great content, thanks for bringing up this topic. Ito yung dapat talaga pinag-uusapan ng husto, sa panahon ngayon kasi nawawala na yung difference ng pag-call out sa pag-cancel or pag-educate, everyone seems to be offensive and everyone seems to be offended. And most of the people na nag-cacancel focus on their emotions, bugso ng damdamin kumbaga kasi feeling naapakan, nawawala yung logic. Most of the time hindi nila nakikita kung saan galing yung issue? Yung pinagmulan. Siguro malaking example na dito yung #CancelKorea movement, which is for me mali, like kailangan muna natin tignan ang pinag-mulan ng issue, saan ba talaga nagsimula? Sino ang talagang may mali? Naiintindihan ba natin yung sitwasyon? Nag-spread lang ba sila ng hate? Kailangan bang patulan?
I hope ma-tackle din dito sa Gray Area about Pinoy Pride. Thank you.

Cancel culture is more dangerous than helpful.
There are people who don't do their part to know the facts.
They hop on an issue without even doing any research.
Some of these movements even divert our attention away from valid, more important issues.

Magandang content at napapanahon kaya maraming salamat, at sana madagdagan pa 💝

Who are we to tell who is toxic or not? We all do toxic shits sometimes. That doesn’t mean we are shitty individuals. It’s important to separate the action vs the person. If we’re to cancel anything, it should be bad and problematic behavior.

Cancel culture has grown-from a supposedly-noble “act”-into something that is unconsciously founded on the premise that humans don’t learn from mistakes. Personally, cancel culture is necessary when mistakes have been repeatedly and consciously done by an individual. One, two non-criminal mistakes are tolerable. Beyond that, I think that’s when cancelling becomes an imperative.

Who coined the term "Cancel Culture" in the first place? I would rather rename it the politics of hate, or simply hate speech. The term does not deserve to put culture with it. Que horror! The way I see it is equating cancel culture to cyber bullying. I find it funny how most of Zillenials, my contemporaries pa, behave inappropriately in exchanging thoughts or response to a user who obviously made a mistake or lacked information about some topic s/he shared (why not educate the user who unintentionally cause the issue?). This comes to a point where I see that social media platforms are not inclusive of opinions anymore and hatred is thriving there, weaponizing it to their own agenda.

Currently experiencing cancel culture, mahirap lang alam ko na nga mali ako gagatungan pa ng mga tao i accepted my mistakes, kinausap ko na yung may problem, pero it is not enough sa mga “nakikisali” sobra na sya I know i can still change and improve, yung ginagawa sa cancel culture ikaw mismo magkakaproblem sa mental health so is there really something good behind this cancel culture besides canceling out bad attitude? Gets there is awareness pero pano naman mismo yung nasaktan?

Differentiate between cancel culture and accountability culture

I agree with what Adea said in the video that because a person is being cancelled by the majority, we don’t have the right na “apak apakan” siya :(
With what I’ve observed, cancel culture somehow “justifies” insulting, bullying, and demeaning the person 😞
There are even instances na death threats 😞
Like sabi ni Adea, toxic na!
I’m all for making people accountable and responsible but if they are cancelled there would not be much room for recovery or bounce back.
Let’s try to extend grace and forgiveness to people who made mistakes just like what we want when we are the ones who made the mistake 🙂
I shared my thoughts about cancel culture in the video I just posted, putting the link here, just in case you would want to know more about it. 🙂 ruclips.net/video/3DPkEN_T6cc/видео.html

the cancel culture is too toxic, many people who are part of cancel culture canceling popular people, I only got attention of this because one of my favorite people and idol named matpat or known as game theorist or film theorist is getting canceled from twitter because of an joke, dude even many transgender said that they were no offense about that joke, and about the pandemic video, IT WAS AN THEORY, because he don't that video really happen in the future because it was an theory, and that's why he was called an theorist, even my youtuber who i grow by just watching him is pewdiepie, and one of the most funny content creator, quackity i getting canceled by just speaking his first language (that is spanish), like dude wtf???
but i know there people who are part of cancel culture know how to use it in right way and understand how toxic this is, oh and love your content, it's very good, I'm very proud filipinos understand and the one who watches this video understand :)

I think there are differences between the sub-intentions within cancel culture. There are people who wish to teach and to educate meanwhile there are those who just want to disregard people (and their mistakes) without trying to correct them first. These things should be done with respect. Hindi naman ibigsabihin na kapag ikaw yung nagtatama kailangan na domineering yung pagkagawa mo pero as someone who's receiving criticism din, kailangan na we receive it with an open mind.
In a world where information is in our hands, we also be sensitive enough to other cultures (and the possibility of appropriating them) and the like. Cancel culture, in its core, is to be used for good. There are just others who might use it for the wrong reasons like anything else.

Its simple for me. Everyone deserves public awareness, but no one deserves public humiliation (especially if the person were just accused of something). My position is just to cancel the cancel culture, because you can raise awareness without cancelling an individual. You dont know the effect of cancelling someone publicly and even that person's privacy will be dug out.
Cancel culture is not a justifiable capital punishment, its not justice, and most of all, its not a reliable source.

escalating some things in to court is hard remember the justice system here in out country is very not that strong. Sa social media pa nga lang takot na ang mga victims magsalita how much more sa korte. I think soc med is the easiest way or the foundation or the first step to resolve or to lessen the crimes of that suspect.

Cancel culture is a wimp way to oppose someone. If someone is harassing or bullying you, you don’t need a cancel culture; you need to report it to authorities. Cancel culture is not above the law. If you don’t like what someone is saying, then have a civilized debate. Stay within the boundaries of debating the issue, no ad hominem, and such. Cancel culture is bullying.

And you will teach a person based on what qualifications? At talaga tinulungan mo after? Paano? and where is your proof. You are a classic case of "virtue signalling"/er. Dahil Kinolawt (call out) mo ang isang tao, automatically ambait mo na. Sa tingin mo.

Opinions/video about false accusations? I.e. people false reporting that they were raped but not really and the life of the other party was destroyed.
