And now enters, the son of the great warrior Tydeus (yes him from the "Rock" Hercules's movie), the warrior-protagonist of the first half of the Iliad, the legendary King of Argos, the mighty Diomedes! The warrior who challenged the gods!
@@antonius.martinus I would also love to be included in this series, the scene of the encounter of Diomedes and Glaucus. It's one of the most beautiful scenes in Iliad, when Diomedes and Glaucus are ready to fight each other, Diomedes asked the other warrior's name, and when Glaucus revealed his name and his lineage from the great hero Bellerephon, Diomedes answered, "we cannot fight because your grandfather was guest of my own grandfather, so we are linked by the sacred law of hospitality". Diomedes and Glaucus then lowed their weapons, and they embraced, in the middle of the battlefield, exchanged gifts as symbol of friendship, and swear to never fight each other for the rest of their lives. It's one of the greatest moments which shows how honourable Diomedes was.
@@hollismarshall Yeah, there was nobody above Diomedes in skill, besides Achilles, and it was said that the Troyans started to fear him in his rage more than they feared Achilles
WELL...that was a whole lot different than the storyline from the movie Troy. This is the difference between a person intently reading The Iliad and the person who wrote the screenplay with fuzzy memories of the Greek Pantheon from high school. Good job, creators.
The movie did several characters dirty. Helen, instead of being bewitched and made into a pawn of the gods' schemes, willingly runs away and dashes the peace her king and husband worked for. She's not even heir to the Spartan throne, like in the myth. Hector, an otherwise heroic and honorable man, is depicted as betraying that honor for his selfish little brat of a brother. Menelaus, instead of being an stalwart king and genuinely loving husband, is a raging misogynist who dies a humiliating death.
More badass? Yes! More feared? Nah... Achilles was like the boogeyman to the Trojan, his voice alone makes everyone tremble after Patroclus's death, no one can top that
Now why would Hera hate Troy so much? Just because she didn't get the golden apple that was meant for the fairest? Or was it cause of her beliefs that marriage is *STRICKTLY* scared?
Paris broke his marriage oath to his wife Oenone (Hera was the goddess of marriage) and dissed Hera by saying Aphrodite was hotter then her, Greek deities held grudges for much less.
I love that ending shot of Ares lol, but in all seriousness Paris was an absolute beta, challenging his foes only when the best of them were gone only to shriek away in fear at the site of a strong warrior
