@JaMeshuggah Thank you brother - great to meet a fellow Lane/Buckethead fan!! 🤘🤘
A cross road player.
I wore a KFC bucket to a Buckethead show at the Culture Room. I took it off my head when he was passing out toys and extended it his way. He tried to toss a toy in, but the hands of the crowd deflected it away. BUT ! He tried again and placed it ALL the WAY this time making sure I got it. It was a Hot Wheelz car which I still have to this day and cherish very much. Buckethead is my hero. I am 35 and started playing when I was 11. To this day, he makes me inspired to pick up my guitar and let my soul flow free. I love you Buckethead. I can’t wait to see him on this tour ! I am eternally grateful.
That is a really freaking cool story! He gave out some really neat stuff at his shows lol. Somebody else got glow stars, he is not only a great guitar player but also a great performance artist. Thanks for sharing that!
Wait, culture room in ft.lauderdale😮
@@elliottheredia6810 Yep ! 👍
Dude, I was at that show that's so sick!
Great experience!!! Awesome
I met Buckethead and Maximum Bob outside some small club in Sacramento 20 some years ago. I shook Big B's hand and knew better not to give the guy a firm grip and was met with an equally limp shake. He looked me in the eye when I asked if I could have a picture with him and Maximum Bob, but I asked if it would be ok to take 2 pictures...one with the 3 of us looking like old pals and the other being attacked by them. His eyes lit up and he shook his head joyfully. I love you Buckethead
Haha that is a great story! Thanks for sharing that man!
@@guitarmeetsscience My pleasure and a wonderful memory for me that I hadn't thought of in a long while...I'll give you a fun visual Buckethead was wearing a Micheal Myers mask which looked worn with the hair all matted down.
Haha that is the perfect visual - especially seeing him right there live.
That's amazing!
I did a meet and greet with Primus at Ozzfest late 90's ? in West Palm Beach Florida. Brain was drumming and BucketHead sat it. When i met Les,Lar and Brain ....there was a dude hanging at the table with them it ended up being BH. W/o the mask and Bucket. He was super cool. I was wearing a Taxi Driver shirt and he was just going on about it. I didn't realize at the time who he was. But talked about the movie for awhile. It was blazing hot and humid. I would have gifted him the shirt had i know. He didn't do pics but he did sign the promo pic of Primus with a hand drawn little BucketHead. Pretty cool. Still have it .and the picture of Les and me
Damn that is one cool story! Thank you for sharing that!
So you can confirm this info is correct? I've heard Bucketheads identity was debated. Cool story by the way.
Who's Brain?
I had Thanksgiving dinner in 1994 when I was 19, with Larry Lelond (sp?) And all he told us was he was in Possessed and we did a bunch of blow. Super cool. I never was into the jam band stuff though.

When Shawn Lane gives you props, you know you're a god damned beast.
Agreed 100%!
Not nessesary to take God's name in vain. God loves buckethead! And you.
@@shanebreezy4453 dude, it's not so serious... just an expression. 😅
I got to meet Buckethead once (people don't believe me but we took a picture together so...) it was at Exit In in Nashville after one of his solo shows. I used to just walk backstage there and meet people that I would have never met and way too long to list... anyways, I just did that about 30 mins. before he went on and bam! there he was, he had some handler dude with him that tried to push me back but he pushed the guy back and motioned me over. we shook hands and I asked if we could take a picture together and he made the dude take our picture. he said some jibberish in a high pitched voice that wasn't even words and shook my hand again and I left to watch the show
I believe it - and from your description that describes buckethead perfectly! Thanks for sharing that!
obvs question - what did he look like?
He's a shredder and a Performance Artist. I love that about him. A lot of us can probably relate to his need for the bucket to feel confident. He's a free spirit. The rock world is better because he's in it.
Exactly right - that really freed him up
this
Slipknot masks helped me start standing up and jamming around. I know I make faces but I'd rather focus on the playing.
Absolutely, sadly 😥 a alcoholic knows the feeling. The booze is a alcoholics "bucket". They need that "bucket" to feel confident, the "bucket" cures anxiety. Sadly a alcoholics " bucket " will lead them to early grave. BUCKETs bucket is constructive and art. 😊
Exactly 🤘🤘
Buckethead has some alien like fingers! Dude's a guitar god.
Oh yeah - you said it 100%!
Where's that "God" is? I see just techniqually talented alien who has had no vision thinking of anything that has stayed... Nill...(0).
Buckethead gave me a pack of glow stars at one of his shows.. (when he brought out the gift bag with disney like music playing and started handing little toys to people 😆😄) One if the funniest memories
Thats one of the funniest short stories ive ever heard. My kind of sincere/ironic offbeat who knows what just happened comedy. 😂
@@joshviggiani9844 😂🤘😅
How cool is that!
I got a Darth Vader mask once and a kid's toy jig saw the second time. 😁
@@jazzcatjohn 👏🤘🤘 😁
I have to admit that, without this much information at the time, I thought Bucket Head was just a hidden guitar player that replaced Slash, and the whole bucket thing was to make fun of Slash and his hat.
I wouldn't put it past Axl Rose to have chosen bucket head specifically considering the time, but bucket head was actually a great fit.
Hahaha....that's a great angle!! Funny though because Slash's hat was essentially just meaningless decoration whereas the bucket head means everything!!
I can see how that would make sense
I became a fan back in 2000 and thought i was late to the party. little did I know how much insane music he would release from then till now.
Knowing the anxiety dude has its amazing he would accept taking the place of Slash.
Definitely some big shoes to fill -luckily they pretty much let him just be buckethead, that definitely helped I'm sure. Plus it brought the band a new dimension which was pretty cool
He took it because he was pushed to there. GNR got nothing but tilu-lilu-solos. Thank god this time is over.
Now we have "artists" who can't sing or play any instruments.
Phase 2.
I met Buckethead once. In 2006 for secret recipe. First in line to meet him. Shook his hand and told him it was an honor. He looked at me and said “hmmmmooommmm” he signed my buckethead comic book “to Julian” personalized. Hands down best celeb meeting and I’ve met and hung out with some big ones at the time . Korn, limp bizkit etc.
That had to be pretty darn cool!
My friend saw him back when he was with the Delicreeps. I was in Amoeba in San Francisco once, buying a Buckethead CD, and the lady at the checkout counter said to me "oh, yeah he was in here a couple weeks ago" or something like that, and said he just looks like a normal guy.
Right on - that is a very cool story. Buy all accounts buckethead is just a normal dude when he's out of costume. It's all part of his performance art
I was lucky enough to see Brian Carroll perform with Les Claypool is S.F. with no gimmick on. That was a historical event for me
Wow that had to have been pretty cool!
@@guitarmeetsscience yeah man I was stoked! They were playing a song and all the sudden they stopped and les said to the audience.."um do you guys know who this guy is next to me playing? Well if you are familiar with Buckethead then you know this fella as Brian Carroll oops did I just reveal something I shouldn't have" it was something along those lines but as soon as he said that I was freaking out haha
@aaronservice86 damn! That was probably the only time he played as Brian since the early days I would bet. Haven't seen any footage on that - everybody must have just went nuts!
You saw Paul Gilbert...
@@chrisw5742 Nope, Les claypool introduced him as Brian Carroll or you know that other guy Buckethead.... You didn't say that verbatim but that's pretty much what he said
The Bucket Man is one guitarist that stands right out.
His playing is original and sounds great .
Good on him.
Buckethead is definitely a extremely talented, unique individual. I respect his intelligence for his business aspects and his work ethic. Thank you, Buckhead, for everything you give.
As I've always thought of Buckethead...
"Hey...so what songs do you know?"
"Yes."
Hahaha exactly!!
The whole Population Override Album, Whitewash, Watching the Boats with my Dad, For Mom, Ghost of Broken Eggs, Ghosthost, Frozen Brains Tell no Tales, Soothsayer, Jordan, Nottingham Lace, Toystore, Imprint, Goblin Shark, Brooding Peeps, etc.
Now, name me some David Gilmour solo songs off the top of your head!
@@BungleJoogie68Right? You're not a true fan if you dont know at least some of his bigger songs haha.

Hopefully he can make it to the east coast soon..
His work on the Praxis albums with Bill Laswell is legendary.
I love it, that album is a masterpiece of experimental music
Buckethead got skillz that's for sure and thank you for the video it was fantastic.
Thank you so much!!! 🙏🙏
I used to think that Buckethead was secretly Paul Gilbert because they both have long pinky fingers. 😂

They're both tall and skinny

You're the man Buckethead and you've given me hope to know that dreams are too far away when it comes to music. 😎💯🤟🤘
Saw Buckethead 3 tours in a row in Asheville NC.
Great live show!
I can imagine that was pretty awesome!
Buckethead is literally a living superhero. His special power is being able to influence your emotions with his guitar playing, and his powers are definitely working on me. Nothing but respect and admiration for this man and what he’s accomplished in his life. Nobody like him in the entire music industry.
Buckethead is definitely one of a kind!
Dude Shreds. I seen a video clip of him a week before the PBS show. And when I saw the PBS show the 1st thing that came to mind was 'This dude and Les Claypool would just feed off each other and produce some awesome sound!
Haha nailed it - It was only a matter of time before they found one another

I had the pleasure of seeing him perform a few times but my absolute favorite show was at the Chicago House of Blues in April 2005. Saw him with Praxis and Tabla Beat Science and they all blew my mind.

Buckethead is an alien.
I believe it!
Bucket was my introduction to the world of virtuoso guitar, never would’ve heard of guys like Shawn Lane, Paul Gilbert, and Guthrie Govan. All guys that I love but Buckethead touches me the most, specifically his calm and melancholic songs
So glad dude is doing better, his health scare was a big "oh fuck not another legend" moment.
You and me both!
Love Buckethead. I have every single Pike he released. Also 6 pieces of Buckethead’s artwork on canvases.

Nicely done video. Although I have been a fan for decades, I always learn a bit more when good videos are made about my favourite guitarist and indeed favourite musician.
I just love his tone, only subtle changes over the years and an absolutely massive sound.
Thank you kindly! If a die-hard Buckethead fan can dig it - that feels like an accomplishment. Always great to meet a fellow BH fan 🤘🤘
Buckethead is the goat!! 🎸

Seen him live, absolutely best guitarist. His energy and mystery is on another level
I got to catch him when he gets around my neighborhood can't wait!

Buckethead meets Saucepanhead! Please put me first in line for tickets!
I need to meet him one day, kindred spirit filled with oddness
Very very cool!
The fact that Bootsy and Buckethead are friends makes me so happy. They're both so unapologetically themselves. I was lucky enough to meet Bootsy after a show in 2010, and went to shake his hand. He gave me a weird look, then smiled, and pulled me in for a full hug. Bootsy is so incredibly friendly, happy, and welcoming. It was like we were already family.
Oh my goodness I could totally see bootsy doing that! What a cool story!
Great video! great guitarist!

I seen Buckethead at The Riviera in Chicago in the early 2000s and he gave me a comic book lol
Hahaha that's awesome!!!
Bucket is on tour right now-I have tickets for Madison, WI show in August.
That is really cool! Somebody else hopped in here too and they're heading to or actually they already headed to his show which is happening tonight. I'm hoping to hear his report back on how it went. If you could post back I'd appreciate it. I hope to catch him whenever he gets around here
Always loved the stuff Bucket did with another god among men, Mike Patton.
Awesomeness!!! Under rated in my opinion!!!🎸🎸🎸
He really is - such a great player!

This is a great story about bucket head. There is no doubt that he is a shreddin' God. Love this dude!

Saw the " Gunz & Rose's" version with bucket, & axil really had a hot backup band !!! He did a solo at the G&R show that was killa !☆
He really brought a new dimension to that band - I'm glad they had him at least for the time that they did.
I went to a Buckethead Show at The Token Lounge in Westland and there was this youngster that drew this AWESOME depiction of Bucketheadland on a Bucket. Like, seriously cool imagery, colors, and size. Buckethead ended up nabbing it and wore it for a while. I think he traded a toy for it, but IDK if he gave it back to the kid or not. Either way it was a rockin' good time.
I've always wanted to have Buckethead sign my copy of Bucketheadland 1, but I'm not sure I'd be able to convey the message.
Ha! Very cool story - I could see buckethead doing that! And I'm sure he would have no problem signing your copy. By all accounts here in the comment section he is very cool to people who approach him for signatures.
Dream bridge, my favorite tune by Buckethead.
Yes, Brian is 'Buckethead'.
He was previously 'The Unknown Comic', and currently still does cameos as SlenderMan. 😁
Brian/Buckethead ROCKS! 🤘
The unknown comics name was Murry Langston from what ive gathered
The dude's an excellent guitarist. Nuff said!
The kill switch master 🤘🎸🐓
Oh yeah - he could work that thing!
LIterally the scariest guitar player out there. Like an alien version of Guthrie Govan.
Exactly! That is the perfect analogy 🤘🤘
Went to see Sinking Lizaveta and saw Buckethead there for the first time in Philly. I think 97 or 98 playing at a small venue. Great little hardcore show.

I was always under the impression that the bucket was a direct jab to Slash's signature top hat.
A lot of people were under the same impression. Who knows maybe Axl had an ulterior motive.
Completely unrelated.
Great guitarist definitely has his own style.
Absolutely right!
Colma is my favorite album. So much emotion expressed in such a unique way.
That is absolutely a beautiful album from start to finish
@@guitarmeetsscience I’ve always wondered if the final track “Colma” was played in one of the mausoleums in Colma… the echoing and reverb has a stone / cold feel.
@One-way It was recorded at the embalming plant studios in Oakland. There aren't many details about the rooms there but I highly doubt they would be that cavernous. No info about whether or not he actually recorded that track remotely, but if I were to guess - he was just able to cleverly use electronics to get the vibe.
Good work man. You seem to know your stuff. I studied Bucket for a long time.I should have beat you to this doc. lol. Thanks for this. Fave Album is Colma and M.R. id play those in repeat. So glad he spent his time and energy in channeling the chickens instead of choking it, hard to shred w hairy palms.

8:16 a virtuous guitarist/martial artist with a KFC bucket in his head performing a nunchuck solo with a Kabuki mask on could sound like a bad dream tbh 😂 but it's actually very impressive, the skill of this man is over 9000,i mean he has more skill and talent in one fingernail than the entire Grammy's nomination together
Haha perfect analogy!!!! The entire Grammys nomination, sadly that's not saying much lol
I bought the guitar player magazine with Brazos in it in 1989 when i was a kid and lived in the Bay Area saw the Deli Creeps and i have seen him solo a few times always a fun show. Pike 224 Buildor is a favorite i would suggest.
Right on! I'm sure that would be a collector's item now - must have been great to see him live. I want to try to catch him when he gets around the area.
When your friends know nothing of real music, you go to shows alone….Ive seen BH twice alone.
you need new friends
Love you for over 25 years, Buckethead... you are a GREAT! 🤜❤
I bet there's a lot more to the GnR story. "You want to be crazy and hard to get along with? I'll show you crazy and hard to get along with!" And never say a word to anybody about what he's really thinking. Maybe it made Axl easier to deal with, just knowing that the hold he had on Buckethead was so tenuous. Maybe I have less than no idea what I'm talking about.
He can sure play evocatively. Sometimes, I feel like his shredding can be more a technical display than something that's actually pleasing to my ear. I'll have to check out the album he made for his mom.
I'm sure the mask and the bucket made life easier for him in a lot of ways especially in that line up. Thanks for sharing your take!
Brian and I are the same age and from the same place. I'm a bass player and the guitar player in the band I was in when I was around 19 introduced Brian as "this is Brian, he's the best guitar player I've ever seen", Brian was just embarrassed. Talked to him about gear for a while and then somehow we got on to talking about how I went into the mountain range in Wampum PA where the entire mountain range had a layer of limestone mined out of the bottom of it and now half of the mine was military storage and the other half was RVs and mushroom farms ... Brian was interested, but when I mentioned that George Romero's Day of The Dead was filmed there he started talking about going there :)
Ha that is awesome!!!
In the late 90’s early 00’s I was friends with guys in a band called Umphrey’s McGee. One January 30th 2004, the bands manager, Vince Iwinski, called me very excited and said “if this gets on the internet I’ll kill you, but I’m on my way to O’Hare to pick up the surprise special guest, it’s Buckethead.” He called me later that afternoon and told me he had the bucket on when he picked him up and took him to practice with the band. He was extremely nervous to be around them and kept thanking them and saying “I can’t believe you guys asked me to sit in tonight.” Every guy in the band was blown away by it. They couldn’t believe he was playing with THEM!
Nobody saw him without the bucket the entire time. There was a private late night show at a club a few blocks from the Riviera Theater after the show that same night with only Buckethead on the bill. There may have been 150 people in the bar and he eventually went on stage and hit play on a drum machine. He must have shredded for two hours straight. Everyone invited was either a musician or knew enough to belong there and if wasn’t for him, you could hear a pin drop in that little venue. No cameras were allowed. I stood there about 10 feet from him damn near drooling on myself I was so blown away and slack jawed. I didn’t realize Jake Cinninger was standing right next to me for the first 30 minutes until we simultaneously looked at eachother between songs long enough to say “holy fucking shit!!!” before the next beat came on and the shredding started up again. That was one of the better nights of my life.
That is one hell of a cool story - thank you for sharing that!!!
I saw Buckethead once in concert. Interesting guitar paying....
I saw Buckethead and Les Claypool play together a FEW times when they were at the Wakarusa Music festival in Lawrence, KS in, I think 2008. It was SICCCK, even compared to other times I saw either or both of them.
I'll bet - that had to be an awesome show!!
I've seen Buckethead live a couple of times "Amazing what he does on guitar"😮😎😎👏👏👏
That is awesome - no pun intended, he's on my "bucket list" to see live - I can't wait to check out his live show!!
