Once the project is completed, the terminal will be able to handle some of the largest ships in the world with a draft of up to 14.5m and 80,000 gross tons.
Reaching new greater depths in the water area of the port of Burgas will provide the necessary prerequisites for the development of the terminals and will create more favorable conditions for the work of the terminal operators.
The work is planned to be divided into two phases. The first includes all activities until the end of the year and will be financed by OP "Transport and Transport Infrastructure". The second phase of the project is planned to be included in the "Transport Connectivity" Program 2021-2027.
After a public procurement by DP "Port Infrastructure", "Consortium Cosmos Van Oord" was appointed as the contractor for the activities, which includes the Dutch company "Van Oord Dredging and Marine Contractors BV" and the Bulgarian "Cosmos Shipping". The value of the contract is BGN 69,983,779 excluding VAT, and the deadline for the implementation of all activities is 204 days.
"BMF Port Burgas" JSC is building a new berth in the "Burgas West" port terminal, which will facilitate sea and rail freight transport in the country, reduce harmful emissions generated by the transport sector, and stimulate the economic growth of the Burgas region. The new shipyard is being built with European funds under the REBIRTH28 project
"Increasing the share of multimodal transport with low emissions in the port from the main Burgas network through new infrastructure at berth 28". The indicative amount of the allowed costs under the Project is EUR 46,864,500. Up to 85% of this amount or EUR 39,834,825 will be allocated by the EU under the Connecting Europe Facility program - Transport sector.
