wow! you may think this was a simple build, but please, both you and your wife are very skilled and talented and hardworking! I loved what you created! Thanks for sharing!
thank god for youtube and people like you lol ive been siting here trying to figure out how to build an island that will match my kitchen cabinets with out spending a bunch of money. never would have thought of just combining existing cabinetry
I prefer to build these without widening the base cabinets so I have overhang of my countertop enough to slide barstools under for sitting & eating. This version of kitchen island doesn't allow that. Still a nice job.
@@optimisticzebra8498 Exactly. I was thinking of putting in wall cabinets in that space. and still have an overhang. So my island would be 6'x4'. I'm looking for someone who has done that. I want to see how it looks.
Loved everything about video...from start to finish! BEAUTIFUL JOB! It's nice to see husband and wife using their gifts and talents together...your children are blessed to have you both...they are adorable..
The final revela is everything!! I LOVED the color of the cabinets!! it's stunning!!! and the combination with the warm tone of the wood looks so nice too!!... I'm definitely take it as an example for my own kitchen renovation !!..Also your babies are adorable!. You should definitely make more videos with your wife explaining the process she followed for choosing the color combination in the kitchen!! your lady has really good taste!. Blessings for your family and greetings from Venezuela.
Thank you!! I’m in the process of getting supplies together to build my dream kitchen on a limited budget and I’m definitely going to try to do this exactly how you did!!^__^
I secured a few boards to the concrete in the footprint of the island with a power hammer. Then I sent screws through the sides of the island into those boards so it was secured. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Actually, Home Depot has lots of Island but not online. You have to go in store and they can try match the top, to your existing countertop. I don't know the price. But I am going to do what you have done so thanks for this great video!
great job by the way! I have one comment - I know that was not the nicest wood, so I understand painting it. BUT I you made it look so good I really love when the wood grain shows a see through stain of the same colour may have been awesome - what would happen if you did that on the Home depot Wood was it presswood or composite or actual wood?. ITS BEAUTIFUL I am not as much criticizing as I am musing to myself. I like your way of thinking. I did the same when I moved into my condo years ago that I had. I wanted always a corner bookshelf. They dont exactly sell those at stack a shelf and that was our budget. We had a lot of books a lot - between the two of us it was more than enough to fill four sets of book shelves and we angled one in the corner and clamped, shimmed and joined them. It looked great and we had many compliments. when yoiu think out of the box you can do just about anything. We are way too functionally fixated - part fo the consumer mindset. Love your channel and the tools. What is the best cheap nail gun, for jobs like this are the Industrial staplegun that takes brad nails enough? If so which one? I need to get one my neighbour at my last place hated my guts from the hammering from DIY stuff, dont want a repeat.. I happen to know a place or two to get free tiles, granite and marble pieces of significant size to small size (free backsplash or counter (some tile places literally toss out boxes of tiles partial to full bags of grout and flooring) and the granite and marble cutoff and breakage Hint don't ask unless you know someone cool. For SAFETY reasons they have to say no. I found a motherload once and was still there at 530 by myself lifting boxes of tiles (I had a process and was wearing gloves and CSA boots. He was nice but it was very clear they dont want you to get hurt - it wasnt about the tiles. I wonder could you do resin with it to fill in gaps or for butchers block some reclaimed hardwood strategically placed for cutting with the resin and stone even mixed would be great for cooking prep different surfaces for different needs.
While I love this video because I am actually fixing to start an island project of my own.. now am I the only one that finds this funny that u bought “big box store cabinets” when ur day job is making cabinets? 😂
In the past we treated the wood with linseed oil but realized that didn’t make for a long term solution. With this island and the countertops I used clear satin polycrylic.
That's what I understood. For that kind of money I might as well consider purchasing an island for $1,000-$1,100. Any price higher than that, then I'll attempt to make this.
I gave you a snippet of a story and you made a complete judgement of my character from 7 seconds of information. They knew of the mistake and honored it because they already vocally gave me the better deal. Shame on you for assuming I conned them.

We really appreciate that! Thank you so much!

The university of RUclips taught me everything I know 🕺🏼

Agreed it kills me that there's wasted space in there.

Thank you Pam, I’m glad you liked it!

Thank you! She did great!
I’m inherently thrifty and love a premium DIY with a big payoff. Great job. Reminds me of projects using an inverted china cabinet to make a bar.
I’m the same way! I get a lot of satisfaction out of a cheap method that turns out high end.
Holy crap this is fantastic!! Thank you so much for the great ideas!
Appreciate it! YOU are fantastic!
That's solid - we're fixing to embark on the Home Depot cabinet journey. Thank you for the video.
Glad it was helpful!
So proud of you guys!!! That’s absolutely beautiful
Thank you so much!
The island looks great! Thanks for filming and sharing
Thanks for watching!
Thank you!! I’m in the process of getting supplies together to build my dream kitchen on a limited budget and I’m definitely going to try to do this exactly how you did!!^__^
That’s great to hear, good luck!
A light blue 😂
I’m a woman too and I think it’s a dusty aqua or seafoam green. Love the colors ❤
I see that you have an electrical outlet on the side of the island. How did you install that?
We had our electrician run the wire through the floor and then just added a box out of the side of the island. 👍🏻
Y’all make a great team ! It looks AMAZING 🤩
Thank you, we’re pretty proud!
id love to do this, my kitchen needs an island. but i also have zero tools for wood working, so really that price just doubled maybe even tripled!
Yeah there definitely is a barrier to entry when it comes to DIY but once you get them they pay for themselves. 👍🏻
Looks great, but I don’t quite understand how to secure the island to the floor, could you please explain? Thank you!
I secured a few boards to the concrete in the footprint of the island with a power hammer. Then I sent screws through the sides of the island into those boards so it was secured. Hope that helps 👍🏻
Beautiful Island! One question: was there a reason why you didn't make the back side open for shelving or bar stools rather than boxing it in?
No reason, just a design choice. Sometimes when we build islands we do open backs with storage and sometimes we do finished panels. 👍🏻
Beautiful work, brother. Amazing!
Thank you so much!

But I am going to do what you have done so thanks for this great video!
The man has talent indeed!
Greatly appreciated! 👊🏻
Nice build. Cute kids!
Appreciate it!
Love the island!
Thank you so much!

Yes let her take over!!
Done deal!
Fantastic!!
Could you put wheels on this? I love this idea.
Love it! What’s the paint color ??

I know… it’s blasphemous 🤣

What fastener did you use to attach the butcher block top to the base cabinets?

Beautiful job 👏🏾
Thank you! 😊
You did great wifey!
She appreciates the recognition 🙌🏼
What's the name of the paint you used?
Thanks
Well done! What is your preference for wood fillers?
I use Famowood 👍🏻
What is the color? It’s gorgeous!
Quietude by Sherwin Williams 🙌🏼
I wanna know the paint color 😊
Liked & Subbed!😉😊 (not just bc u asked me to😅) I ❤ making awsome things to save $$$,, great job btw (&video) 👍
Awesome! Thank you!
GENIOUS 👍🙋🏽♀🙋🏽♀
I get that a lot. 👊🏻🤣🤣🤣
Did you treat the butcher block top with anything? I’m looking to do this exact thing in my kitchen
In the past we treated the wood with linseed oil but realized that didn’t make for a long term solution. With this island and the countertops I used clear satin polycrylic.
what kind of paint sprayer does your wife use?
The Graco Magnum X7 👍🏻
So with butcher block it came out to about $800?
That's what I understood. For that kind of money I might as well consider purchasing an island for $1,000-$1,100. Any price higher than that, then I'll attempt to make this.
Yes! I’d love to see your wife.
It’s cheap if you already have all the power tools
Theres a concept.... A cabinet maker that goes cheap on his own cabinets.
That's lot work
For a great result!
Shelves would have been cool on the backside. Just saying.
For sure, I’m actually finishing up an island and video of it that has shelves in the back. 👍🏻
Let see what she can do
👍🏻👍🏻
Karma is a B. You will pay for that $50 mix up down the road. Strange and dishonest you didnt correct them. Shame on you man
