@@reinarforeman6518 Yes, of course you're right. Stupid of me not to catch that. Thank you. And as we're at it, we see the interviewees on rounded steel framed chairs, which one could suppose, are similar in design to Bacon's early metal tables pieces and such.
Thanks for this, it’s a truly fascinating film. Even to this day the jury is still out on they are by him or not isn’t it, Pompidou Centre believe they are but the Tate is still undecided. Perhaps some are by him and others have been forged. Only Barry Joule knows the facts haha…. fascinating.
I think we can go beyond that interpretation now. Recent research carried out by The Estate of Francis Bacon has shown conclusively that drawings included in the Joule archive are forgeries. You can listen to the interview conducted by The Art Newspaper with Martin Harrison and Sophie Pretorius for more on why this is the case.
Thanks for the film..Nobody knows the truth of this one but mr.joules. but that really doesnt matter...this one is for everyone to have their own convictions or feelings about it... i, for one, feel more satisfaction in believing mr.joules...from the few sketches/mutilated photographs shown, theres a definite baconish feel about it...even if a lot of them defy our expectations about preparatory works of a great artist. what is equally satisfying is revelling in the uptightness and pomposity of lofty institutions like Tate, haha.
@@jdmagicmusic you say you're my elder yet your attention span and choice of words make you seem like a pre-teen. I banish you! or some other clever deflection.
The drawings don't look like Bacons at all..not even as cast-off etchings for future work. If Joule later admitted to doing them himself, it wouldn't surprise me. It's all speculation anyway, and from the few I've seen up close, they're not really all that good. And, likely, certainly not what Francis would have wanted as a representation of a portion of his oeuvre even if they were actually his! It's 2022, and I've not heard anything further about this. What's news?
I left a similar comment above, but you should listen to the recent podcast put out by The Art Newspaper with Martin Harrison and Sophie Pretorius regarding the authentication of the Barry Joule Archive. It looks highly likely that most of it was faked by Joule.
The pictures look like preps for major paintings.
And were ... he call them studios
An artist who challenged contemporary movements at the time through his distinctive art practice and work.
Lucie-Smith certainly does like to waffle a load of complete nonsense.
Interesting perspective on his art, despite the annoying carnival mirrors.
Calm down.
It's made to look like a bacon painting.
Woooosh!

I don't think the works on paper were "given" to his neighbour, he was instructed to destroy them. Bacon would despise his neighbour for this.

you should see the full archive, a vast amount of them are pure rubbish and difficult to believe they are by bacon
Hindsight?
It would be fine to fix aspect ratio here
its pretty simple - fingerprints
hmmm so i gotta invest 51 minutes in this? ok, since i'm thumbs up #1 and i got a joint in my hand, alright, we're innit for a while innit...
It is interesting Jenifer. I hope you enjoy it.

I find the Tates response to the enhanced photo sketches ridiculous.

I really enjoy Bacon, however the way the british portray him is WAY too dramatic. Also, NEVER trust an art critic!!!
These works on paper don't look done by Bacon..They look done with a clumsier hand, tho some what convincing if you don't have a sharp eye.
Well, well, well...the lady with stainless steel sharp eyes dixit.
It could be simply settled with a DNA test.
in 1998? very expensive.
Was never that interested in Bacon's work to begin with. A big story and theory and talk needed to justify his work because it can't stand on its own.
