Each Marten was allocated a Number eg PM1 - 51 and a tag implanted. So if you saw a feeder in some of my videos thats what it was for. It records the time/date/ tag number which was also filmed with a trail camera.
That seems a much better and less intrusive to way track them rather than an external id like ear tags or collars etc. Thanks for the insights and info Paul, all very interesting. keep up the good work. 👍
Dear Juan It is a pleasure to see your videos and how you present your exciting work in Wales. We are lucky with you and we really enjoy your work. Thank you very much for sharing and showing us the fruit of your effort. You have a great sensitivity, all the images are really beautiful.
Thanks. Its such a treat to see them back here. I have to say I really enjoyed your documentary on the Pine Martins it really was top drawer with some fantastic footage and storytelling. Regards John. 👍
Great work John, awesome blog, 👌 your photographs are awesome, and I was inspired by your Mouse Image a couple of years ago to try this myself. Can't wait for your videos to come out. especially with the technicals behind your work. Cheers mate..👏👏👌😊
John, what a brilliant result. I really enjoy your videos, the pace is excellent and the intro guitar music fits perfectly. Fantastic results here and possibly the best CamTrap photos I've seen from anyone. As I said before just send some of your excess pine martens down here to South Wales! Keep up the good work.
Thanks Barry. In the weeks prior to setting up the camera trap most of the badgers were walking in from the right on my trail camera. I agree they look better walking uphill. Regards John. 👍
Those silhouette images are very effective John. A fox would have been a more preferable subject than the lamb but even the lamb was excellent. As always, a very entertaining video with a great set of images. Best wishes.
Have just found your channel and am so glad that I did. So pleased that you have managed to capture the wonderful Pine Marten - they are such special creatures and as I also live in Wales am so glad that you have found a spot that will reward you with their presence. I have never had success geting shots of Foxes but have hundreds of shots of Martens but I will now follow your great advice and set the camera further back. Thank you John.
@@JohnFormstoneIt would be interesting to know if your Marten was a translocated one or its offspring. During lockdown I made a feeder that records pit tag numbers so I can mostly tell if the Marten is locally bred or of Scottish descent.
@Glasgow urban wildlife That's great it's still around. I passed through Glasgow a few days ago, I'm currently on holiday in Argyll, seeing some great bird's today including black throated and great northern diver in summer plumage. Such stunning birds. 😍
Great to see you getting pine martens down there! Definitely my favourite species for camera trapping up here near Inverness, where we are fortunate enough to have a very healthy population of them. Hopefully they keep appearing for you!

It would be really nice if it was the offspring, The feeder you made sounds very interesting, I didnt realise the relocated Martens had been tagged.
Wonderful images John..!! All the best to you.. g
Thank you George, hope your well. 👍
