And yet Amazon MGM had practically zero faith in Look Back, which they coproduced.
The film was handed off to different distributors (mostly indie distributors) for its theatrical and home video releases, while the film was given close-to-zero marketing for its Prime Video release.
And yet it became their biggest hit of the year with critics and audiences. It may have been outdone on the financial side by Red One, but Look Back has a budget of less than $1 million, and yet it made over $12 million. It's much more profitable than Red One even if it made less money. It's even being seen as an Oscars hopeful for Best Animated Feature.

Edit. Also how did we, in the 80s, figure out that most wrestlers don’t have the chops to be actual action stars but now we can’t keep trying again with DJ. Roddy Piper was amazing for B movies in the 80a but the rest were pretty bad. Even if Andre in Princess Bride still makes me smile. These days we got Batista and Cena managing to do it better than Dwayne ever could. I wonder if is the Rocks ego that is the issue. Batista and Cena can do action but they also have no problem looking like fools on screen. In fact their comedy chops are their strength. DJ can’t approach a project unless he is the ultimate bad ass in it and it makes for really bad movies

The success of Cena and Batista I think come from a much greater willingness of the two of them to step outside their comfort zones and fully commit to things. Johnson never does, and really only picks roles that exemplify everything he already is. It's also why most of those movies, especially recently, are terrible.

It's a disgusting habit he picked up from wrestling. He used to drive to all his matches, so he would pee in a bottle while driving. When they film vignettes they have a little pee tent off camera like how Dwayne has on set. Because the vignettes are pre taped they do multiple takes and sometimes the wrestlers, they have to go between takes. Then there are the spots where they wait under the ring and they pee and 💩 in buckets left under the ring for them. If that's not enough, the lady that Dwayne cheated on his first wife with, said he had some sort of odd pee fetish.

I can't even explain how weird and tonally inconsistent it is. It's crazy. Somehow too long and two hours too short. There's side plots that just fizzle out after being so heavily foreshadowed with zero subtlety.
The moment when you aren't sure if Aubrey Plaza is going to murder Shia LaBeouf, or just cut off his terrible ponytail. I won't spoil the outcome. The whole time you can tell that Giancarlo Esposito does not want to be there.

The thing about all those actors you named at 7:40 is they respect their coworkers and their acting work enough to not do that. Even though they could get away with it, they don’t because they realize everyone’s time is just as important as theirs. 8 hours is a full work day so imagine working another workday on top of that? Plus that balloons the budget when everyone is basically working for OT. For a lot of actors the studio would cut their losses and pick an actor who can show up on time.

I think the Santa thing can be answered by a pretty simple concept: Societal cohesion. It’s not like everything would fall apart if we were truthful about it, but it’s one of many things where collective lying to a percentage of children just makes everyone feel good. The non-Christmas celebrating people, the kids who grew out of it, parents of small children, most of them get to enjoy in perpetuating the believers joy and faith.

The reason why we do that Santa thing for children is because children at that age can see anything and make an entirely new world with what they see. The imaginative stage is very important for a child to develop creativity and by giving them someone like santa it allows their creativity to run wild. It also makes keeping them in check much easier by saying, “uh oh doing that is gonna get you on the naughty list.”

@@myfriendscallmepat completely honest! tho usually- I must admit I rate things counterintuitively just to keep the algorithm confused... for ex. rating katy perry ytps as 'informative' or arrest videos as 'calming', and so on.

As someone who very much enjoyed the movie despite the flaws. i mean that’s probably because i don’t watch marvel movies and stuff like that (and the fact i’m a neurodivergent minor who likes very strange stuff that i know are objectively bad) so i couldn’t find any overused tropes and stuff like that. but watching this made me aware about it and all the problems. i also don’t really do research on movies before hand as once again i’m a minor. it didn’t change that i had a good time watching red one but this video was a good watch and gave me a new perspective and i appreciate that and it showed me that this movie actually sucked.

Mark my words. This movie is going to be "reevaluated" in 20 years by the kids who are seeing it now. They're going to insist that the movie is actually a misunderstood masterpiece, and a brilliant satire of crappy action movie franchise tropes.

One of the main reasons why The Rock is everywhere is because he made a film production company that made so much money from his older hits and got so influential that he can now extort Hollywood into casting him in as many movies as possible. He doesn't have to worry at all about not being cast and his acting shows that very clearly.

Long Legs would probably be a better Christmas movie.

I can't believe there's now a worse Christmas movie than Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas
