it has a really great vision behind it all written down in what is called the transition handbook.. There are also small movements like this starting up where I live (Holland) but I bet if you get in the right circles you can find even more recognition in getting that wish of yours for the world more materialized ;)

VeganRevolution If you look into what Leonardo Dicaprio has talked about in his new doco Before The Flood, the problem with climate change caused in relation to our diet, is beef. Not because it makes us unhealthy or anything, we've been drinking cows milk for generations, but because of the amount of co2 caused from this industry, along with the deforestation for creating more farm land... We need more of a balance in the economy... Hence I said it depends where you spend your money... If a multi-billion dollar somebody bought a bunch of dairy farms and converted nearly all of them into wildlife habitats, he'd still have enough land to produce enough vegetables and fruit for thousands of people... with each person spending say... $20 a week on vege's ... that's a lot of money... and a lot more jobs. But the issue with corporate advantage and market manipulation etc etc, competition and profiteering... it seems apples grown in New Zealand, are flown to India, to get polished, and then shipped to America, to get stamped, then back down and sold in Australia... When they could just be... local.

Only one thing about meat/dairy being unhealthy, check the docu 'Forks over knives' and reconsider your perspective
The historical perspective you shed on the fact that we eat/dairy meat is also incorrect. it is true we did eat it already for a longer time, but never in this frequency, never this industrialized, never this processed.
More and more sources find out it's actually animal products that clog up our arteries.
