you could blitz the dried shiitakes into a powder and use them as an umami-rich seasoning
I did this with a coffee grinder and a mushroom bouillon powder recipe from Mountain Rose Herbs and it makes the best ramen soup ever!
I had the same problem with jackfruit 'till I stopped thinking of it as a meat substitute, and started using it as a vegetable, like canned artichoke. It's good in spinach dip, or on pizza, or in a veggie curry!
I'm a microbiologist and use agar agar almost every day in the lab... It's totally fine to use after expiry, I've been using the same container of it for like 4 years
With the agar agar and food coloring you can make your own crystal candy that would be so fun to watch you make ❤
Ooo yes!
Or with pineapple juice and make it into jelly pudding
for the dried mushrooms, I personally like to put them in noodle soups. (you can rehydrate them with the noodles while the noodles cook in the boiling water) very delicious and easy.
You should make rice crispy treats with the mint marshmallows
I use the hanging shelves underneath my cupboards for extra storage. I usually use them for potatoes and other produce that doesn’t live in the fridge 😀
Heidi Swanson has a recipe for fried rice made with millet in one of her cookbooks that is also great because it uses a lot of it up at once! I also had a ton of millet to use up last summer and made that several times.
Ok a few things i want to try in this cabinet (as a person w adhd who also needs to see everything)- cans still on top, but stacked like at the store, sometimes 3 tall. Its honestly usually quite stable and then u have a visual of every can u have. And yes u have to get a stool and grab one down but that doesnt happen that often and at least u remember whats up there!
Also u said u moved the stuffing- good bcuz baking ingredients can easily take on other smells esp if open bags!
Also also what if the baking shelf was lower because u dont need it that often and the one thats prime eye level was like just all things either for dinner times or things you know youll forget to grab? For ex i keep tato chips on top shelf because my brain never forgets them but random misc item eye level because i already forgot it before i brought it home.
The first "mystery grain" is millet!! I like making porridge with it; add fruit, cacao powder, something sweet etc. It´s also nice with some vegetable stir-fry.
Traditionally, jackfruit is used in curries in Indonesia. You could make a tofu/chickpea curry and add jackfruit.
I had stuffing mix in my cupboard and just been using it as a flavouring for soups really makes it taste lush
You can also blitz it in the blender and use it as breading for tofu, etc
You can make homemade vegan chz using agar agar to solidify it! Surprisingly easy, you can use cashews or even oats as the chz base.
Stuffing mix --> savory bread pudding? Not sure if there's a vegan way though. Also friendly reminder that if you have unopened, unexpired food that you really don't think you will use, you could always donate it to the food bank...
Sprout some of the mung beans and add them to your ramen or noodle dishes like pad Thai.
Your organization looks great!! I use millet up by grinding it into a flour and then mixing it with oat flour (either fine store-bought or ground rolled oats) when baking muffins or some cakes.
mung beans like you have, are great for sprouting!
For your glut of jackfruit: make it bbq style (It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken had a great recipe), put it on top of roasted potatoes and cover with cheese sauce (It Doesn't Taste Like Chicken also has a great recipe for mozzarella cheese). Delicious.
Almond flour, nutritional yeast, and garlic and onion powder are a great coating for tofu. Got that idea from Chanty Marie’s channel. So good!
The sticky note on the door is GENIUS
with the food coloring, you could make pride cookies/cake for june!
I’m reading through the comments and wow, everyone is so creative. I’m really looking forward to the next video!!
What about rainbow bagels or pretzels? That would be a fun “practice baking’ project.😊
Also, what about 3-ingredient fudge for the marshmallows? You would need vegan condensed milk, the mint Dandies, and chocolate chips.
Cook farro for bowls in veg broth, I also cook it with brown lentils for a super easy and protein packed bowl!
oh that sounds so good! do u just cook it until the liquid absorbs/gets cooked out then? i thought u had to drain it but i wondered
Farro is so tasty in grain bowls and grain salads! If it doesn’t smell stale or bad I would sure eat it 😊❤️
This method with the post its is kinda genius. I'm def doing this this weekend.
I like how you up cycled instead of running to target and buying more plastic!!!
Millet porridge is really good, particularly with persimmons and cardamom
nutritional yeast salad dressing is SO GOOD and xanthan gum is a key ingredient!!!
Rice krispy treats with the marshamallows and sprinkles. :)
sweet potato casserole with the regular marshmallows on top would probably turn out really good!
Ive been meaning to clean out my panrty. This is a good reminder
❤❤❤ I like to use my hanging shelves over my large dinner plates! Since I don’t have that many plates they don’t fill the vertical space. Then I stack my smaller plates in the basket. Ily!
Yes please to a baking video! I love baking food & go through periods of baking a fair amount... & then nothing for a long time. But I'm always happy when my bakes turn out successful. I'd like to challenge myself here too!
And you can add shitake to all your soups and ramen without waiting, when you boil water they work the same.
Jackfruit is really good in curry!
You can make the sprinkles into powder instead of throwing them and this way you can use it to sweet many things.
dude i love those marshmallows so much i'm not even vegan but some of my family is and they are my favorite marshmallows ive gotten those mini bags on clearance for like 50 cents and i just snack on them as a little sweet treat LOL i discovered your channel last night but i've really enjoyed your videos so far! i need to learn how to cook more and i have so much unused shit in my pantry LOL you've inspired me i might reorganize my kitchen/pantry today!
nikkivegan has been raving about a farro arugula salad with grapes that she had and i’m rly curious to try it. i love barley and i think it has a similar texture so it would probably be great in soup too.
Make popped amaranth! It's good on yogurt and stuff
Farro is fantastic in soup, this between barley or rice.
u could use agar to make jellies or sugar free jams
you should make chocolate peppermint rice crispy treats you could use cocoa pebbles and chocolate chips and the peppermint dandies
I use Farro in place of bulgar in tabouleh recipes!
i love how this video is edited
For the peppermint marshmallows, you could make peppermint bark but sub the candy cane for marshmallows, you could even add in pretzels or graham crackers
i suggest making kohakutou ( japanese crystal jelly ) with the food colouring and agar agar. It’s super easy and you only need three ingredients: sugar, agar agar and water
Loving your post-it note system & everybody’s ideas! 💚
Oooo what about “hot cocoa cookies”? Just a super chocolaty cookie with the marshmallows?
For jackfruit, I'll be making like a chilli san carne with beans, all the seasonings and tomato sauce and beans etc. simmering away in the pot, and then I just rinse off the jackfruit and throw it in to summer with the rest. It gives it a nice texture I find, but you also have the beans for protein too. :)
a teriyaki jackfruit on a sort of sushi-esque bowl… that sounds good to me idk
maybe you can make peppermint rice crispy treats with the peppermint dandies?
I am a mom of 3 and we do a pantry challenge a few times a year here. We take inventory and then make food around it for 1-3 weeks depending (obviously buying produce when needed).
Loved this!!! Needed this!!!
this was aammazing
You can use jackfruit to make “chicken” or “tuna” salad
Sofritos darling Emily. Do they not have it in Clovis anymore? They have it here in Colorado. I too, have a can of Jackfruit that has been sitting in my cupboard for a long time. I just don't eat jackfruit much. But jackfruit quesadillas sounds good. A local taco shop to me has a jackfruit quesadilla that is really good! But it has beans in it too, lol.
Agar Agar to make vegan queso fresco! You can top the veg queso fresco on some jackfruit Mexican style bowls
can u maybe turn the hanging under shelves things upside down and use them as a sort of extra shelve? not sure if they’re too slanted for that but could work?
Peppermint mocha cookies with the marshmallows?
soften the dried mushrooms then make into a grave, add some white beans, Braggs, and eat that over rice or baked potatoes, yummy! Sprinkles seem to come to my house to die....
So many vids lately 😍
I’m screaming “put the jackfruit in the chili!!!”
Oh, you say it a couple minutes later. You must’ve heard me.
You can make coffee jelly with agar agar
i’ve been wanting to do this for a while
@@hibiscus10moon it's super easy!
i like using mini lazy susans (idk what they're actually called) in my pantry! its not the most space efficient bc they're round but i get to see the front and back of my shelves just by spinning them around
Yes!!! We need to see the marshmallow video:)))😁💚💚
New internet bestie 🤍
can't wait for the next video!!
queeeen i'm doing this too
If the chocolate rice krispies cereal is vegan you could totally make chocolate mint rice krispie treats with the mint marshmallows
genius
Tie dye sugar cookies with almond flour and food coloring 👀
Make brown cookies but with food coloring 😂 aka add all the colors.
omg…. so unhinged… and then tell people theyre chocolate but theyre not??
Do you and Casey (not sure if I spelled it right lol) share the pantry space? Also I got the Sam's choice oat milk dark chocolate after you mentioned it a couple videos ago and really liked it! I like that it still has the dark chocolate flavor but less of a snap/it's slightly softer
yes we share a lot of groceries cuz we eat similar but we just have certain things that are ours & we kinda just keep mental track of things instead of having our own areas lol
yes i love the oat milk dark chocolate i would love to try it in a smore 😯
@@emlyewng Gotcha nice! My roomie and I kept stuff separate so was curious lol. Ooh yum a smores is a good idea
You could do a Pride themed video and use the food coloring for that! And maybe melt the marshmallows to create a vegan marshmallow fluff for ice cream or drinks.
It’s so foreign to me when Ytbers are so aware of expatriation dates😂🥴 my family and I have like 2 years expired pasta in the basement and stuff like that🥲😂😭 but when there is no mold, it doesn’t smell or look odd and it’s been properly sealed it’s fine for me😂🙈🙋🏼♀️
Millet is a mystery grain because it literally means "small grain" it's many types of gains
you could make some sietan using the red and you use the jackfruit and make vegan ribs for a summer video
i also throw rice in soup. easy
Looks like you need to make rainbow cookies with sprinkles and agar agar
Luv ya 2!!
Yay! 🎉
Jackfruit is good in smoothies.
I have the exact same marshmallow problem lol. If you figure out what to do with the peppermint dandies, please share XD
Check to see if you have a “buy nothing“ group in your neighborhood/town. Someone will take the items that you don’t want anymore, even expired! In my group you just post a picture and description of what you are giving away, people comment if they want it and then the come pick it up from your house!
put food coloring in pancakes? 👀
Jackfruit jerky?
Fiiiiiiirst?!
i love you
9:04 this is like ED thoughts. Please don't act like this way of thinking is good or normal
wait how? i’m saying it’s a lot of prep & cooking for something that’s not that filling for me… because i’m lazy i’d rather just have beans as my protein cuz they will fill me up better without requiring as much work
@emily ewing I mean every meal needing to have "a protien" mindset. also one can eat until they are full regardless of what the meal is
I'm not saying you have an eating discount but this is the kind of thing my eating disorder and others would say
