What a shame. She tried her best, but the somnambulistic conductor does not know how this music goes. Typical 21st century “slow, slower, slow as possible” approach. It’s SHAPELESS and without any forward movement. No wonder singers are burning out before they’re 40. This dragging dragging dragging approach is disastrous to singers’ voices. DISASTROUS. 😡

Absolutely right. This is so slow that I am surprised the orchestra members did not fall asleep while playing. clearly has a powerful and interesting voice but not even Nilsson would have sounded right singing it at this tempo.

Nillson wouldn't have been afraid to instill her tempo while preparing and also at the cost of making the conductor look silly dragging behind her on the actual performance. The thing is that singers with such great voices like Olga Maslova should develop the proper mindset in respect to their gift.

In classical music, festivals are often named after composers. This does not mean that only that composer's music if presented. Indeed, there have been occasion when a festival named for a composer none of that composer's music is presented.

That is not a festival, that is an international competition, which requires the singers to include into their programme peices of different epochs and in various languages.

Not too heavy, not too light. A solid lirico spinto with some dramatic heft (but not a dramatic soprano). A little strain at/near the top is worrying as the voice thins out. So many Russian singers who are lyric or lirico spinto sopranos end up blowing out their voices so young. I hope she doesn’t.
