As an American living in Taiwan these 16 years thus far, I hope for the best all around. I hope that President Trump will continue to bolster Taiwan so that the status quo can be maintained.
The status quo isn't perfect, but it is not terrible. Except for the near constant threats and intimidation from the other side of the straight.
If Taiwan and China could get along for a mutually beneficial relationship, it would be wonderful.

lt's a big shame for Taiwan to be allowed to be used as a bargaining chip against the motherland. China is already a superpower and reunification is China's sovereign rights. Even overseas Chinese are now enraged to see separatists colluding with foreign powers to sabotage the process of reunification. Stand firm China, if the whole situation is beyond peaceful, the UN CHARTER and most countries in the world will be on your side.

Because of the stand of America in the world order. America cannot simply turn its blind eye against the world, the world will crumble if America will stop caring. A lot of people or should I say Americans do not understand this. If America will ignore what is happening on the other side of the world, that will also affect America's economy. Everything is connected my man!

There are no internationally recognized treaties, policies or UN resolutions that state that Taiwan is part of China
Historically the CCP recognized Formosan independence. In 1936, when the Republic of China (ROC) was China’s government and Taiwan (Formosa) was a Japanese colony, Chairman Mao Zedong offered support to Korea and Formosa if their peoples wished to gain independence from Japan. Mao’s internationalist position suggested that 1) both Korea and Formosa have a right to independence, and 2) this is based on the right to self-determination. Mao did not claim that Taiwan has been an integral part of China for centuries, as insisted by the Chinese government today. Interview with Mao in 1936
An interview sourced from the Marxist Archive demonstrates this.
Interviewer EDGAR SNOW: “Is it the immediate task of the Chinese people to regain all the territories lost to Japan, or only to drive Japan from North China, and all Chinese territory above the Great Wall? “
MAO: “It is the immediate task of China to regain all our lost territories, not merely to defend our sovereignty below the Great Wall. This means that Manchuria must be regained. We do not, however, include Korea, formerly a Chinese colony, but when we have re-established the independence of the lost territories of China, and if the Koreans wish to break away from the chains of Japanese imperialism, we will extend them our enthusiastic help in their struggle for independence. The same thing applies to Formosa.”
      Source: Marxists Internet Archive
Taiwan was not even added to the PRC constitution until 1978?
The 1978 PRC Constitution was the first Constitution in the PRC to touch explicitly on the political status of Taiwan. It said that "Taiwan is part of China" and said that the PRC "must liberate Taiwan, and finish the great task of reunifying the motherland".
However, in 1979, the PRC dropped the liberation stance and opted for peaceful reunification instead.
The 1982 Constitution mentioned that "Taiwan is a sacred part of the territory of the People's Republic of China" instead of just "China".
The fact is the war was never over Taiwan and during the civil war the island legally belonged to Japan not China.

Why would China attack Taiwan? That’s what the American want to see, and the American has been trying so many times, also different ways, China didn’t fall for it.
