I just had a flashback watching this video too.lol.i had a 1978 dt400 in the early 90s.they are tough bikes and are fast if you wind out 4th and 5th to just at the redline.they got the easy chain adjusters too.
You guys touched on something I’ve really been wanting to know: I just DO NOT “GET” all these different “?T” Yamaha models, and the years (AT, DT, RT, etc.), but I’ve been looking for a definitive source for this info for a LONG time! Is there a COMPLETE HISTORY anywhere; a web site, or even better, a BOOK, with PHOTOS? Wikipedia sure doesn’t have complete info. If such a complete book doesn’t exist, somebody needs to create it; a COMPLETE PICTORIAL HISTORY of all the Yamaha models, dual-sport, but also motocross (YZ) and everything else, and really I’d like to see such a resource for ALL the main 4 Japanese manufacturers. So far I’ve seen NOTHING that is truly COMPLETE. Come to think of it, you guys are the perfect people to put something like that together! I’d sure buy such a book! Give it some thought, or if such a book or web site already exists, please let me know! Thanks! 😊
What a beautiful example. I have owned several DT's , also a white DT400MX like this one with Cantilever suspension. This was around 2000 and a lot of parts for the restoration were then still obtainable from the Yamaha Company.. In Europe you only had the DT250 in red. The 400 were white or Blue (IT blue). The 250 was really underpowered. The 400 is a tractor, all the power is in the lower revs. Not as powerful as a XT500 though.
@@aaronschulz9896 Could be that the ones I tried were not in very good tune but the '79 (European ) model had only 16HP. Still is a fun bike. I wished I still had one... 2-Strokes are almost extinct now in Europe.
@@aaronschulz9896 I bought my first new bike in 1988 a DT125 LC with YPVS, this model had 25 hp and was very light.. After 1990 DT models became more and more restricted due to emission legislation.
@@Ianzandvoort That probably was one hell of a bike. Especially here in germany we never really had that much cool bikes like a kx500 or Cr450. We still got the h1's and h2's the gt750
Glad to see it still has the document cover door and lock. Hard to find! Hope you get top dollar. Any interest is publishing a purchase price guide for all your sold bikes?

Love the idea
Nice bike, i agree with thinking of yr childhood when seeing a DT, had a 1982 DT 125 when i was 15 yrs old great memories...
Can’t believe how clean that thing is
I have a 1979 dt250 and it looks identical to this one here. I love mine it's still going strong
A very tidy example.
An old friend had the 1977 DT250 with the blue color code.
I have the sales brochure of both DT 250 & 400.
The tank decal does not look correct. I’m sure decal had a bit of yellow on it
Wow, I had the same bike back in the day. Awesome bro.
That thing is killer😮👍🏻
What can I say very nice Ken.
77 may have been first year for mono shock
Second year for mono love it
Very nice bike!

Really, just revived a 250 1R7 and the power feels really good

@@Ianzandvoort Miine is from 82. People say it has between 16 and 18 hp. Yes it fun, even more for me because legally I drive a 125cc bike with 13hp

I like your bike brother. I have the 78 400.
1977 was the 1st year for the monoshock enduros. Not 1976.
i had a yellow 1976 with rear shocks. can still recall the smell of Castrol exhaust
That is correct..1977 was the first year for the monoshock..And I happen to have one!..Great bikes!
Nice I sold my 1981 mint Dt 175 a few years back! Red to rack on back
I had a red 1980 DT 175. I miss 2 stroke bikes!
best part about the dt it's street legal
And that I have a 75 in the shed!
Dude always with the awesome bikes man! When we gonna see a sweet dr650 from the early 90s??
Glad to see it still has the document cover door and lock. Hard to find! Hope you get top dollar. Any interest is publishing a purchase price guide for all your sold bikes?
yes, why not, we sell them all on ebay
It may or may not apply to this bike, but don’t you need to add “lead” to the gas on these mid 70’s bikes and earlier?
Reign_Man ... No... Just avoid ethanol...
Lucky captain gets to ride all kinds
Whats up with that upper chain guard? You guys didn't mention anything about it. Is it custom made? Looks pretty nice!
Where can I find parts for these bikes
I am looked to buy one. Can any one help find a Dt400 model ?
Sold a 78 DT 175 a few months back...kinda regret it.
I'm looking Quick ride but eat patient
