Hey Chris! Hello from India! I saw you first video on this channel and although I realized that you are an amateur photographer just like most of us here. I could resist my temptation to watch the second video. One because there is finally someone whose is in the spot as I am, talking of photography (during this video, probably you are a pro now). Second because I realize that your are actually making mistakes and learning from them rather than imitating them mistakes to show your viewers how to tackle similar conditions (which most of the experienced photographer running youtube channels do). Another thing, you as person appeal to me more because you are following photography more for your passion/hobby than as a career which even I am trying my best at. Its really tough though to keep making time for following such hobbies and I think constant motivation from people like you will help me to keep going out there and do what I want to. The argument you put up about the modular gear one possesses against the sheer talent of an artist really was an eye opener. Speaking of me, I am 22 years old and pursuing a degree in engineering. Cheers cause I too own a nikon D5300 and just one lens ie. AF-P Nikkor 18-55 mm dx vr. So another thing good is that now I don't have to figure how use the settings on my dslr. I have a lot more to talk to you and want to be able to communicate with you constantly while I am learning. So if you don't mind can you pls share your email/fb/insta it would be really helpful. Finally best off luck with your research and hope things go in your favour so the society benefits from your noble intentions. Pls do write back :) my fb: facebook.com/i.animalekar
Hi Aniket thank you so much for the lovely words, it means so much to me hearing what you said! We are hobbist that try to make it fun for us. Actually I started to earn money because, you know photography is an expensive hobby!! I have the luck to have always been creative and always have liked to learn and develop my artistic side, like with music. So i hoped to make my and your learning process much easire by sharing mistakes or impression of a starting photog. You can always reach me on my insta (where I am most active) @newpixphotography :)
Hey man, I have got the d5300 + af-p dx 18-55mm vr lens recently. I'm not getting the bokeh as much people want. Can you please suggest me a good lens for portraits with good bokeh and less price ?
hi! Yep the kit lens is not that good at bokeh, unless you shoot at 55mm and the subject is very close to you. For easier bokeh the 50mm 1.8G is the bomb. But you can pick up any other vintage 50mm prime from Nikon as I did. 50mm is very good for portraits as on the APS-C sensor is like having a 75mm.
The 50mm focal lenght are perfect for portraits, so you will nail pretty much all the portrait and candid parts of the event. The 1.8 aperture will serve you well during the low light conditions. You can still use the kit lens+speedlight to get decent pics at the cocktail party/reception for a wider angle look. During the party I would not use the 50mm too much as it might be narrow and less versatile if something happens and you need to capture the moment, you gotta have the flexibility of a zoom.
Chris..thank you for starting this channel and giving it your precious time.. I am inspired... Thank u again
thank you so much for the kind words!

Newpix Thanks for suggestion. But, can I use this lens for wedding photography?
