billy hargrove | breathe, desperately

so somehow leading up to season 3, billy became one of my favorite characters of all time. it probably has something to do with the million harringrove fics I read, but also I’ve just always gravitated towards characters who have a tough exterior to hide something softer beneath the surface. while I loved that he got more screen time in s3 and we got some bits of his backstory, I obviously wish some things were different. I do love the idea of the mindflayer being a representation of his father / a reflection of the worst parts of himself, and I really tried to focus on that in this edit. and I also love his last scene and how we got to see that at his core he was still good, still that kid on the beach who loved his mom and would do anything to protect his family, still had some fight left in him, still had potential to be better than he had been.
I so wish that all of his scenes with karen simply did not exist and instead that screen time had been used to build on his relationship with max. I am really hopeful about getting some more exploration of their dynamic in season 4 though since it looks like max is really going to be grieving for him. I think we'll at least get some flashbacks but also... call me a clown but I really think there's a chance he may come back alive somehow especially after reading some of these theories: / strangerthings4theories

i love billy! I agree that instead of focusing on karen they should have done more to show his relationship with max. If he comes back that'd be amazing! but idk it feels like he's a character that's gonna stay gone.
