basic plot: billy and steve are seeing each other, but when steve starts to get too close billy starts pushing him away
fun fact: when I first watched season 2 I hated billy hargrove so much that I didn't even bother learning his name and just called him max's brother. but then I stumbled on one of lymrick's harringrove fics (archiveofourown.org/series/87...) and it changed the whole way I looked at his character. I know that billy and this ship are both pretty controversial and I certainly understand why. in canon they are not my cup of tea at all, but after basically plowing through their entire tag on ao3 this past summer and staying up to date with the fandom since then, they have somehow become one of my ultimate otps. I've been trying to vid them for months and then finally I found this song a couple weeks ago and it all started coming together. then I realized that it's #harringroveweekoflove over on tumblr (shoutout to the harringrove fandom, y'all are some of the loveliest people I've ever seen) and it was perfect timing to get this done! I hope that those of you who ship these two enjoy this, and even if you don't ship them I hope you can look at this through an AU lense.

thank you so much!!!!! that’s really interesting that you loved him right away - some characters just call to you like that! I remember rolling my eyes every time he came on screen and then when we got to that scene with his dad I was just like ‘OH. okay. I get it.... but I still don’t like you!’ but then it just really stuck with me for a while after finishing the show, and then when I found all of the amazing redemption fic I was sold.
I’m so wishing that season 3 treats him well because I’ve become so invested at this point - like he doesn’t have to be 100% redeemed but at least give him a few more moments where the light shines through, you know?
dacre really did a fantastic job portraying him, and I definitely can tell that him and joe enjoyed working with each other. I hope they have more opportunities to do so next season! 🤞🏻

I never really shipped them when i watched their scenes on the show. But after reading 137281818 harringrove fics and watching plenty of their edits, I'm not the same person anymore.

I personally never thought of them that way until I was scrolling through tumblr under the #strangerthings tag after I finished season 3. I saw a harringrove post and then I got curious and now I’ve been going through fic after fic on ao3.
In canon I wouldnt see it happening. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE the fandom and how people interpret these characters and add on to them. I also love all the AU and fic ideas they have for this pairing as well that I ended up shipping them too lol. I love this video, and find it really nice!

thank you!! to be fair they only have probably like 5 minutes of screen time together total so you’ve probably seen everything that’s relevant 😂 but I personally loved season 2 way more than season 1 in general so I’d recommend giving it a shot if you have a chance!

Like Steve sees something he wasn’t supposed to, sees the way Billy’s dad treats him, and it changes his whole perspective of the guy. He tries to get closer, tries to help, but keeps getting pushed away
