Thanks for contacting Dreadbox about the USB MIDI issue. I was wondering about that myself. Lovely synth though, we've had it in about every track since we got it.
Thank you so much for staying true and honest to your own experience even when you like the synth, I'm saving up for an op-z right now, but Typhon will be the next right after the Z 😊
Only just found out about this synth, never heard of this brand , this synth sounds amazeing , I did wonder why their are two versions {red sliders} superb overview, do you still own this model?
You did quite well speaking Greek for the videos introduction! I've always loved Dreadbox. I tried for almost a year to purchase Erebus 3 on eBay and every time someone would out-bid me! Then I just said "forget it..." and got into Modular Synthesis. Creating sounds via patching is challenging at times but I just love it. When I get frustrated, I take a break and play my Drums- Jazz, Break-Beat, Afro-Pop... Typhon is tiny! I think of that Synth more as a drum-machine because, as you said, every "Synth" sound is the same. You can't really change it up. Unless you turn it into a drum-machine as you actually DID DO near end of your very well done video. You were creating some great Electro type drum beats with a bit of Bass. THAT was different from what Typhon usually sounds like with all those effects piled on. Maybe there will be positive changes sound-wise with the new firmware update. Congrats on your latest release by the way! Yássas~💡🎵💥🌌🤙🐾
Thanks Eleni! I suspected you may be Greek given the name haha. I have family in Greece and stayed there for a wee bit so I got to a conversational-ish level a years back, but I've lost a lot of it sadly. I love Greece! I think what you said about the Typhon is pretty spot on too. It's quite hard to get away from the core synth sound, but if you make use of the modulation within the FX you can do some cool things. I'm curious to see what they do with the firmware!
@@StephenMcLeod Wow! So what area of Greece are your family from, if I may ask. I miss my Homeland very much. Last time I was there I met some family, Uncles, Aunts, second cousins who showed me different areas outside of Athens and tourists which were so amazingly beautiful. Did some Island hopping there and spent some time in the Pelopónnesos. The Southern part of Greece where it looks like fingers. There are ancient ruins scattered EVERYWHERE in that area! Gigantic outdoor Theatres from B.C.E. times which still have perfect acoustics and continue to be used for plays! You were living there for a while you mentioned, were you on the Mainland? Théssaloníki/ Northern part? Island? Would love to go back and stay longer. My heart hurts. Not that fond of living in U.S.A. Anyway, could talk about 🇬🇷 Greece forever! I'd like to hear/read about your experience there. Yássas~💡🌌👾💥🎵🐾
@@EleniEliades_ Athens - Kallithea and Nea Smyrni. I've been going since I was a wee boy and wanted to learn how to speak it so I could understand what my cousins were saying, but only kind of got halfway there sadly. I ran into the problem of there not being any good resources to learn from years back, and not really knowing anybody in Glasgow I could practice with. A shame really. Maybe one day... We stayed there for a few months - Athens, because it's my favourite!
Thank you very much for your honest review, very appreciated. Some things I like about it, the harmonics you can get out of it, you can also get some pretty damn good analogue string sounds and the ability to split delay times, haven't seen that before. fantastic. Oh and you have a great beard my friend!🙃
@@StephenMcLeod did you see though just released a new polyphonic one, actually reminds me a lot of what a polyphonic Typhon would sound like. And not that much more expensive.
Thanks for the video it looks very interesting synth I was going to buy a moog but I think this is going to change my mind what do you think yourself can you please help thanks 🎼
Did Dreadbox successfully implement MIDI over USB yet? I can't tell exactly when the latest firmware was released and the manual shows that it does support it in the diagram on page 6. I really hope it supports this feature! Waiting for mine to arrive and I'm very excited :) Edit - great review btw, exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for watching! I don't think they've implemented it yet. They said the end of summer, so I presume it's a bit off. There's been a few different manual variations.
Hang on a second.... If you borrowed this from a friend.... All your friends _aren't_ synths??? I thought I was watching good honest reviews and this whole time I've been lied to. 🤣
Are the sounds your own or presets ? The sound on ruclips.net/video/P6dar8hIo2o/видео.html is very Moog-ish ... is that a preset sound, and if so ... whats the name and bank of the preset ?
Hey Morten, it's a mix. A lot of them are 'my own' tweaked or created from INIT sounds, but I threw in a few presets as well. Unfortunately I'm not sure which ones, as I picked them at random, and I don't have the Typhon any more!
Great video thank you. it would be great if you could program the sequencer via and external keyboard too, other than that it's one of the best synths I've heard for a long time

Yeah! USB MIDI will make it a beast. I'm excited to see what added features they bring in too!

I do. I still use it! I love the sequencer in particular. It's a happy arp accident machine.
Got some real nice sounds out of it.

Great review Bro. Brilliant little synth I love mine 💜
Thanks for watching!
This reminds me alot of the DSI mopho! Sort of a vastly evolved version.
I'd like to try one of those!!
Great demo! Wondering what you'd recommend as a more versatile synth with the same portability factor? :)
I'm honestly not sure! I think you would be hard pressed to find something with as much versatility in a similar package. It's a really teeny synth!

No. It is a Dreadbox

It does sound pretty great. It has a particular sound, but then so does the OB6 and ehhh
