- Today we are back with even more AR & VR News. We will begin the video by talking about the latest Quest v64 update which is now out of PTC and is coming to us with tons of great new features. These include laying down mode for the Quest 3, external mic support, joining friends in Horizon made easier, keeping casting when the headset is taken off and most importantly, some pretty drastic improvements made to passthrough quality on the Quest 3. This update will greatly improve your passthrough quality hopefully allowing you to have a better time in AR. After this we will move on to the new Beat Saber mixtape as well as the growth PCVR is experiencing behind the numbers, finally, we will talk about a new spectator app for the Magic Leap 2 and a new Horizon Forbidden West VR mod! Not gonna lie I was not expecting the passthrough quality to be any different but it's surprisingly pretty decently improved in v64!

v64 isnt available in México City! When will I be able to update?
I usually need glasses to read but with the V64 update, I am able to read my cell phone without any reading glasses. I don't know why but it's pretty amazing.

I tried it last month. Literally about 7 people total in all the worlds..... when will Meta get it. We want games, not social events.
They have to give a reason to play it. I have hopped in a few times and tried some worlds and its just not very good. I do like watching the music events but that is few and far between.
V64 is game changing for pass through. Before I never used it but now I use it a lot

You... never used the pass through??? What do you mean? Do you just mean you never played games requiring the pass through or pass through altogether??
I did buy the Quest as a stand-alone device, but have since purchased a gaming laptop that will run VR games well, so I've started using it through Steam VR also.
I also am a recent convert to PCVR. I started with Quest 2, got Quest 3, then tried PCVR and was blown away. Just got a gaming PC and am loving it. Mobile VR can be a gateway to PCVR for those who can afford it, which I was just recently able to do.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that we can run Virtual Reality, on a laptop, with a wireless headset.
We're living in the future and it is f*cking incredible.

We were promised a laying down mode for the quest 3 but it does not exist anywhere in settings even though it was announced In the v64 patch as well as the option for disabling 120 Hz from display was removed entirely (at least for my quest 3) we're also missing voice commands since it's included in settings but you can never find it
I can bring my Q3 to work and get in a couple of hands of poker, or do a little fishing, or play a little Drums Rock in stand alone mode on my break. When I get home, I boot up the PC and head out into deep space with No Man's Sky or into the future for some Half-Life Alyx to wind down at the end of the day.
Just wish I'd started using Virtual Desktop sooner. It finished setting up a bunch of stuff and fixed/improved the settings I had adjusted. Everything runs so much better now.

What settings?
Laying Down mode is so trippy, and the passthrough is a significant improvement, I can easily look at my phone in VR now, without having to have it at the right angle to be able to see a text
Did anyone else not notice any passthrough difference? I'm on v64 now, not sure if its still rolling out with this one, but even in good lighting conditions, mine has always been alright. Was I one of the lucky few that didn't have issues getting nice passthrough open box maybe?
Same I don’t have v64 yet but I just got my Q3 like 4 days ago and my pass through is absolutely amazing and I can read stuff on my phone already 🤷

The quality of the passthrough depends heavily on your lighting. Excellent lighting? Very good passthrough.
Average lighting? Very grainy. Mine is very grainy, but my lighting isn't bad or anything. It's easy to have it not work perfectly

I use pc vr with my Q3 and have quite a few games and I'm joining some friends to play some driving sims in VR this weekend should be great fun :) looking forward to these new updates spesh with the lighting and crisper image.

No man’s sky is stealing all of my free time. Virtual desktop (or alternative) with good router is great. Pcvr is expensive, but awesome. I hope it doesn’t die.
I've always been able to start casting from the Meta Quest mobile app and then stream my phone to the TV. Works just as well.
I'd love to have a spectator app, not just for AR, but VR as well. Meta touted this a while back, to use Arena scale with the Quest and Dead and Buried. They were gonna call it Colocation.

as a owner of the meta quest 3, i can confirm that passthrough has indeed been improved. i can now see screens properly and i can use my phone. though my PC is not compatible with vr (i have no GPU) i can also say that there has been improvement with performance within the headset.
tested passthrough before and after update and def a good improvement, and great news for horizon zero dawn fans :)
I never realised how similar parts of Russian and Polish are until it finally clicked that you are saying "good evening everyone" at the beginning of the video and it sounded really close to the few lessons of Russian I've done on Duolingo 😅
After v64 screens look easier to read, BUT at the same time I started experiencing a strong shuttering if I have my phone in front of me and keep moving it around. It seems the screen is been processed separately to adjust exposure, and it could be causing it. I could not notice much difference on the Passthrough tho. Maybe comparing side by side is more visible.
How can I be sure that 120hz are active on my headset when the 120hz option is removed ?
Do all games just run 120hz standard now or what is the meaning of this ?

Why do I have such different options in my experimental? I have External Microphone, Disable Wi-Fi Refresh, Bluetooth Refresh, Swipe Typing and Show hand outline while Passthrough is enable. No lying down mode for me tho

I use the quest 3 mainly for PC VR. it does a good job with its own apps made for it, but I love the quality of the graphics when I use it with my PC. I bought it for wireless PC VR lol.

I bought a used Quest 2 for the reason of PCVR, but also the standalone feature is a big bonus. I’m interested in things that PCVR can give, while standalone is great for family members that are not so interested.
You can actually can do spacial computing, leaving windows floating in space fixed, try the fluid app PLEASE!
laying down mode is super cool and trippy! lol watching this vid now after playing games in lay down mode! But when you full screen a video and exit fullscreen, it breaks laydown mode

I use PCVR primarily. Just what my needs call for. Still like standalone, but there just aren't the type of games that I like on standalone considering I'm heavy into iRacing, F1 manager, and soon to be college football 25

Ay dude, I bought a quest 3 a few hours ago waiting for it to arrive, and I also got a kiwidesign head strap and controller grips. Is it a good upgrade from a quest 2 that I’ve used for almost 3 years?
It's not a must need upgrade, but it's definitely more than worth it. I use my quest 3 more than I did with my 2

I love the PCvR with my quest 3. my problem is, I wish to use the quest controllers as a Xbox or ps controller. can't seem to find a good method yet.. would love one

I did notice the passthrough improved, and my Wifi 6E (6GHz) which had worked perfectly for months can't stay connected for even a full minute now... the Wifi disconnects started the moment I had installed v.64.
We need to find a solution to use the mod mic natively maybe with an adaptor

i bought my quest initially for standalone gaming, but once i connected it to my laptop for the first time, i basically dropped all standalone functionality and exclusively used it for only pcvr… and some standalone games i bought beforehand that i’ve already finished.
Yep PCVR is so so awesome I use mine for Assetto Corsa and ACC is so good in driving sims drifting had never been this fun
@@scottpolston6137 pcvr is so great, and im saddened the industry has gone towards more standalone devices, but im certain pcvr will continue to be supported, and that standalone will make huge jumps in innovation to maybe even eclipse pcvr

Mobile was my first VR experience and got me to try PCVR, now I’m a convert but will keep using both mobile and PCVR.

Aside from unique standouts like HL: Alyx and Boneworks - the BEST VR games are ones that we got modded into VR. The Resident Evil PrayDog mods alone... seriously holy crap.

I too have bought the Quest 3 in order to replace my aging index.
I don't really play standalone games, except for beat saber because it's faster and easier to play standalone.
For some reason, ever since I switched to v64, (a day ago) my headset started overheating on basic apps like RUclips. I even got my first system error for the headset being too hot, out of a month and a half of having the headset.
The pass through is so grainy 😢 why? I’ve seen others and it isn’t. How do you make that better?
Worked it out now. Still grainy but not as bad. Ya need ALLOT of light to get it to look much better. I’m used to the Vive and stuff that ya can play in the dark lol. But it’s not mixed reality and wireless like the Q3 😎👌

My bulging over-strained neck muscles are stoked for lay down mode.
I want print&place stickers to represent the corners of a bench or table. I want an ar screen to clip to the sticker.
Bout bloody time with the pass through, I can't wait until they get it to retina quality. Also, Beat Saber was limiting their audience range by not having hip hip in it. I think if they could PC VR game streamable in Quest as native then less need for linking it to a PC.
Still on v63. Wish it would update so I could see this improved passthrough. I used passthrough all the time and would love to have the improvement.

It seems i cannot comment on this video, weird. I'll try it again: do you think the new method to add mods to beat saber is legit? The one which you connect to the website through chrome and streamlines the whole process? (a channel called Stellar VR published said method but it seems fishy).

I'll browse youtube and netflix on standalone mode with my Quest 3, but the main reason I got it was for pcvr through Steamlink. Being able to play Skyrim VR or Half Life: Alyx through it and the sim racing games such as Assetto Corsa and ACC is awesome given how clear everything is through it.

I have beenthinking of RMA'ing my almost new quest 3 headset. Co's i see peoples passthrough in video's and it looks fine but mines all grainy and flickers from my overhead LED lights. I did go out on the drive during daytime and I think it looked OK but can't really remember. But I just don't want to be without my headset for ages. And have been hoping it's normal and will be improved. When does this version 64 launch or has it already today or something. Co's tried passthrough yesterday or the day before and it was still bad for me. Which makes me about to send it back and get another one.
i think the passthrough is just a marketing term for what's originally just a safety feature (aka a soft lie).
Only after Apple Vision Pro did Meta suddenly go all in into video quality, which the hardware wasn't built for.

I honestly don’t need fully interactive be titles AAA games with a headset just to immerse myself fully in the game I think is good direction to go. Think Mario 3D land on the 3ds those titles I with a quest and controller

PC VR isn't dying. It is in this weird stage gaming was in the very beginning, where actually having the hardware that is able to properly run certain games was very, very expensive. Remember when Crysis came out, everyone was amazed, but there were so few people able to play it that it created the meme "Yeah but can it run Crysis?" The people that invested enough money to play with these amazing new graphics were few and far between, until more and more games appeared that handled hardwaredemand better, while still having cool graphics. That created the "stepping stone" that was missing until then. Same goes for VR. Thanks to standalone developers are kinda forced to think about optimization, and the insights learned from that slowly leak over to PC.
Also, NVIDIA is providing more and more tech to make VR run smoother, which also helps a ton. Just think about nvidia image scaling and VRSS. Amazing!

yeah the only thing that sucks is scoped storage not coming back WE CANT MOD GAME CAUSE OF THIS they said in the 5 previous update "its gonna be fixed in the next one" yeah well which next one...
True, they said it was a mistake but it looks like it was deliberate and coincided with winlatorxr launch
That's why I blocked all updates past version 62. No more until things are fixed

@HellBeater what 5 updates? Scoped storage (which, btw, you don't want back, you want it *gone*) was introduced in v63, and v64 is only just rolling out
@@xGOKOPx This is not a feature for me, just to clarify things. I am not super versed in terms of Android, as I understand you are so I hope you could help me understand the situation as you described it.
1. I haven't seen any information about updates within Android itself in the release notes. Do you have any source that would confirm that it is really related to changes in Android itself.
2. I'm curious why you commented on their integrity in terms of information they are passing out. If the change is really related to changes in Android itself why would they write on Twitter that issue with Scoped Storage is actually a mistake and will be reversed soon.
@@Quantowski Because it is a mistake? I don't understand what's so hard to understand. Quest OS is based on Android. In an update they bumped the Android version they use because that's what any reasonable person would do, eventually. Turns out this introduced mandatory scoped storage which they could very much overlook. Meta doesn't actually want game modding limited by this feature, therefore they've announced that they will disable it themselves in a future update.

my passthrough still sucks i barley can see my phone or monitor screen I hope they continue to work on passthrough
making windows and having them persistent, like the vision pro, should be possible because it can remember boarders in another room.
My quest is almost 100% exclusively used for MS flight simulator on PC
I use PCVR with my quest and always have, but it’s probably less than 25% of the time. Mostly I use it if there’s a particular game I can’t get otherwise.
That makes a lot of sense like playing Roblox before it was on App Lab.
Yaay... New update... Still white flashing pixels are not fixed since v54 tho. Would be great to come back to ALVR without this issue.

I bought a Q3 for pcvr, and it will be the upper tier. All the begginers will be on standalone until they realize the benefits of pcvr
Unreal engine vr. Omg it's spectacular. I tried it on my 1080 ti. It was a bit janky but I was so impressed I bought a 4080 super just to use it to play the vr injector. I'm playing starwars fallen order. It's better and more immersive than any game built for vr I've ever played by a mile. Stray and ghostrunner plays well on it as well. There was a full time content creator that loved it than put the breaks on suddenly and said it wasn't for him. I guess he didn't want to alienate his fans.
Charging up to 74% while using quest3. Can anyone confirm that the Q3 in the latest firmware version can only charge up to 74% while playing, and only after taking them off or turning them off can they be charged up to 100%? I honestly remember that they used to charge fully, only very slowly above 75%, and now they stop at 74%, both with the mains charger or an external battery, is it battery protection? 🤔

My wife's Q3 got v64 (I'm still waiting for it on mine) and yes, the passthrough is significantly better. It also has lying down mode. 😁
I have very mixed feelings about stand-alone VR, for users like my wife is great, but as a mainly PC VR gamer, I can't help feeling that stand-alone is pulling down the standards of VR gaming overall..
I just want the update to give me my night vision back, it would be a bonus if it had a standalone Steam without having to pay some third party for Server use.
