I bought 2 male pearl gouramis and one was really aggressive. He chased other fishes away during meal time. So I returned it. Now I have one. He is the most peaceful fish in the community.
These community fish are actually good for many fishkeepers to look at. Female Bettas are the best one. The fish is known for its stunning combination of colors, such as blue and red. Thank you so much for doing this video.
Great list! It's always awesome to see attention given to these underrated community fish. They bring so much color and personality to an aquarium without the huge space requirements. Perfect for anyone looking to add unique vibes to their tank!
Excellent information. Really I just learned that there are so many types of Community Fishes, really new information for me. Clearly understand your explanation. Tkx
A fish that I will ALWAYS call underrated is the five banded barb They look nearly identical to tiger barbs, except being smaller and having one black belt more, but are so much more calm and peaceful. The rough and hyperactive barn behavior can only be seen while feeding. I keep mine with honey gouramis and this combination works perfectly
Not gonna lie, Pokémon is the main reason I want fish ❤😅. My first dog was named: Charmer 🔥 😊, after you know who. I skipped fish when I was little and volunteered at a horse farm--now i have had my 1st horse for 20 years, and I've rescued horses from the killpen here 🇨🇦. Now that my horse is in his senior years, and I am unnecessarily arthritic😅, fishkeeping seems ideal 💯. I planted my first 10g aquarium recently, and I'm just about ready to get fish :). This community is so similar to the horse hobby community in knowledge and passion. Thanks for keeping these conversations going, internet family 🫂. My only thing now is.. where the heck do I start !? This vid helped a lot❤
I put gold white cloud mountain minnows in my native tank. Orange throat darters, black stripe top minnows, two small gray species I can't identify, ramshorn snails, and the mountain minnows. They all get along great and the tank is always active. The darters are friendly and curious so they always come say hi when I get close. I got everything but the white clouds from a local creek.
It’s nice to see some unique options that don’t get enough attention in the community. Thanks for sharing these hidden gems-definitely inspired to add some to my tank!
Underrated community fish like Corydoras, Cherry Barbs, and Hatchetfish bring so much charm and harmony to a tank, yet often fly under the radar. They're peaceful, low-maintenance, and make a perfect addition to any setup!
I have had fish for 75 years. I have always loved gold barbs and pearl gouramis. I used to catch the "least kilifish," Heterandria formosa, in South Florida lakes, very dear, not flashy, just dear. I also had a paradise fish that pecked other fishes' eyes out.
Pearl / lace gourami are my no 1 favourite aquarium fish. They are so graceful, beautiful intricate patterns, males in breeding condition have loveky red bellies and feathery fins. They also have interesting behaviour and are friendly and hardy..
Most of the fishes mentioned here aren't available or extremely rare here . But pearl gaurami I've kept, 1 male and 3 female, although the females don't have the orange belly but they are extremely beautiful. Males on the other hand was way too bully , it used to bully my 6 inches angels and sometimes used to dash towards my severums . After one and half year all four died suddenly, no other fish in the aquarium had any sickness whatsoever. It's beautiful fish but idk whether it should be kept species only tank or something. And female Betta are one of the most underappreciated fish in the aquarium hobby
Some would be similar - I think if you talk to most experienced aquarists you’ll get some similarities. I find the freshwater side more aligned than the saltwater side. I feel like the saltwater hobby gets a lot more heated for very specific things or almost cancel culture at times which I can’t stand 😅. Like when I was okay with the Hawaiian bans on Yellow Tangs. I felt ousted really quick 😆. I remember talking about this with George Farmer at Aquashella a few years back.
@ Very interesting see I’m not well integrated into the saltwater aspect (as I don’t have much interest) so I wouldn’t have ever known that. For me I think I’ll stay in Freshwater 😅
@ I like freshwater a lot better. In the saltwater space we mostly mourn the industry because Bertarm destroyed most of the dry goods supply chain. I’m pretty happy the saltwater space as stated mostly private and the big companies like Hagen never went on a consolidation spree.
I can understand why white cloud mountain minnows are underrated, their cold water requirement makes them incompatible with many fish which is not something that's desired in a community setup
I have 2 for you, green neon tetras, and this one is not a fish, African dwarf frogs. African dwarf frogs are the number one most underrated frog, they do amazing in small groups with in community fish tanks, they are even better than whites tree frogs!
I had six Pearl gouramis it a 6 foot aquarium by 2 foot deep. The males slowly went out for each other - it led eventually to the death of the sub dominant Brothers and sisters. Lots of hiding spaces. What a beautiful fish. And What a shame.

9:07 you put least killifish under the apistogramma lol
lol ya I mislabeled it. I need to stop doing edits at 2AM 😅
Half of these fish were on my Top Ten Underrated list! I guess great minds think alike!

Another fish to add, Cichlasoma festivum, the flag cichlid. Look it up, then TRY to find it!
Nerite snails leave loads of eggs that aren't easy to remove.
Paradise fish really should be kept in water warmer than 73-74°.
Can you keep just 3 pearl gourami in 54 liter tank?
No. Absolutely not. They get more than 10 cm long and as such way too bit for a 54 ltr.
Awesome list! These underrated fish definitely deserve more attention-perfect for adding variety and harmony to any community tank!
I have 2 for you, green neon tetras, and this one is not a fish, African dwarf frogs. African dwarf frogs are the number one most underrated frog, they do amazing in small groups with in community fish tanks, they are even better than whites tree frogs!
Green neons are pretty awesome agreed 😊. Never kept Dwarf frogs myself.
Damn gourami are famous for aggressive behavior
I had six Pearl gouramis it a 6 foot aquarium by 2 foot deep. The males slowly went out for each other - it led eventually to the death of the sub dominant Brothers and sisters. Lots of hiding spaces. What a beautiful fish. And What a shame.
Sorry to hear that 🥲
I never found that. I kept 3 male and 3 female in a olanted outdoor container. They lived happily for many years are grew really big and fat.
@@jase123111 I am happy for you.
yo this is kinda funny, but you kinda sound like another youtuber called atozy lol
I wish I had a million followers like him 😅
Ayo don't let ur female betta in the tank first my blue half moon Female is a literal serial killer to any fish I added after her. ]
Always put the most aggressive fish in last
Pygmy cory
Awesome Cory 😎
