I replaced my cv axle/seal/dust seal and hub assembly (with your kits). When my truck is jacked up on that side (driver) and i manually spin the drive shaft, the nuckle doesn't spin. Nor does it spin when i rotate the hub assembly 😬 is it supposed to??
i noticed at around 11:17 there is a seal with a metal ring on the back,...but at 12:00 when showing a new one and 13:17 when tapping an old one off there is no metal ring on the back. is there a difference? i just installed new inner seals, dust seals axle joints, knuckle seals and wheel bearings and i cannot get my thrust washers on. looks like if that metal ring was not there i would be good to go. any help is appreciated.
to clarify, by front axles u joint at the steering knuckle is basically sitting on my lower ball joint and I was wondering If a hub assembly is what will clear up the problem or if I need to dig deeper
so at the very end of the video when you smacked the axle seal off, theres a metal piece thats on the outside of the seal. how do you get that put on the new seal? mines all bent to sh!t haha.
@VenturesTruckParts thank you!! I been trying to hammer it back into shape and it doesnt fit right and nobody ever talks about it so i appreciate the response!
When the axle shafts are out is a good time to service/grease the upper ball joint. Does anyone have tips for during a regular lube job (when the truck is right side up, fully assembled and the axle shaft is in the way) on removing the grease plug, installing the zirk for greasing and then putting the plug back in? Gravity works against me and my fingers have a real hard time squeezing in there while fumbling with the plugs and zirks while I am flat on my back! FYI... a 7mm wrench fits the grease plug (on my 2001 Excursion upper ball joints).
I have a question... I have a 2000 ford excursion 4x4 5.4 engine..... can I strip my front axle and drive it like a 2wd... meaning removing all the cv axles etc... ? If you could let me know your thoughts if be thankfull.?
Ok...... I will do that... if I can not tack weld a shied behind it and seal it.. I was trying to get rid of all the weight and wear on the bearings... but I overlooked the dust part.. you mentioned... I will most definitely get that going... thank ya kindly..
Instructions are great for disassembling not as good for assembly. I went ahead and ordered their parts kit, unfortunately it came with the old-style axle dust seals. If you watch other videos you'll see what the new style look like. Now I can look forward to doing this job again in a few years. I expected more from Venture.
On the back of my stub shaft theres like a metal dust cover all bent out of shape rite after the u joint yoke in between the big dust seal pressed on the axel shaft. Do i need this or can i some how take it off?
you do not need it. It came on some trucks and it did not come on others. you can just tap it off with a hammer if you are taking the vacuum seal off. You can not remove it without removing the vacuum seal.
Thanks much, now i popped out the u joint in one axle and the u joint cap just turns in the yoke, it moves in and out freely. Will this be ok or does the cap have to be tightly pressed in. As its hard to find axles for a 2003 ford f250 4x4 dana60 front axle assembly
@@jrblandscapingandsnowplowi4935 If the U-joint cap is not a tight fit your shaft is no good. It needs to be a tight fit. We have some good used shafts available. Give us a call. 1800-464-1713 These shafts are no longer produced new from The OEM Manufacturer Dana Spicer.
@@VenturesTruckParts dang i wish i new you had shafts, i called and they said no. So i just bought 2 complete inner outer axles with u joints and seals from richmond axles for 626.86. I called yall first as i bought all my u joints, axle/knuckle seals, axles dust seal, unit bearing seal with c clips, washers and compsite washer, oh and the composite disk in between the axle seal and unit bearing. When i took it apart i found the one axle cap was loose. So i called yall they said no. Oh well cant cry over spilt milk lol. Thanks for everything bud.
looking for help. just changed complete hubs assembly and vacuum seal and when i try to put the two flat washers and thrust washer on, there is no room to the c-clip
For others to know, if you have the parts in proper order and the c-clip is lacking it's groove space, just barely pull the axle outward from the hub assembly, all you need is the thickness of the c-clip. After installing the c-clip, everything will go together and work good as new.
The most common reason the c-clip groove doesn't have room is that the seal wasn't pressed on far enough. As Swampfox321 says, you can get a little more axle out by gently prying the axle out (by the inner axle shaft, don't pry on the u-joint). However, if you haven't seated the seal, you're not going to get to that groove.
It appears to me on my four-wheel drive 2002 Super Duty I'm going to have to take off the upper and lower ball joints I can't pull the axle shaft through . What say you the seal on the back on the inside of the housing is busted. And the dust shield on the back side won't let me pull it through.? I don't understand how's your point at right out of there.
@@VenturesTruckParts yes you're right and I think it's also because the seal is broken ones on the outside ones on the inside thank you so much I'll give it a shot when I get in.I would assume you guys can get me the entire hub I think it's might be shot I'll probably need an entire kit 😂

This is a great informative video!! I have referred to it more then once. What causes the small snub axle bearing to fail? I seems to replace one every other year, even with new snub axles installed.

My only beef with this and similar videos is that no mention is given to early vs late 1999 super duty parts I have an early 1999 SD manufactured in 3/98 so there are significant differences in new parts vs the 99-2004 parts
is the dana 60 in the 2004 f250 super duty different than the 2006 f250? I notice on your website that the dana 60 OUTER AXLE SHAFT SEAL GREASABLE U JOINT KITs compatibility only goes up to 2004. great video btw! thanks for the upload
Yes it is different. Ford changed the design in 2005 to what they call a Super 60 (It will have coil spring suspension instead of the leaf spring) We do have the parts for these axles as well. If you want some help give us a call or e-mail us and we will be happy to take care of you! 1-800-464-1713 or ventures@readytek.net
We use a pair from armstrong. The part number is rubbed off or else I would give it to you. But yea 2005 and up models... I hate those dang snap rings! They are deep and stiff!
Thanks for the reply. After going through 3 different pairs of pliers I found a whole set of very nice snap ring pliers from my local Harbor Freight Store. The snap ring came right off no problem. Also I appreciate your great service. I was able to purchase the Dana Spicer inner and outer seals from you guys cheaper than I could get generic seals from my local big box parts stores. Thanks!
Getting the studs out of the Hub Assembly is a pain in the butt we are managing having to hit the old Hub assembly with a torch to pull the studs. Do you have the part number for the axle seal?
Im not 100% sure what seal you are talking about. There are a couple of different seals in this axle. Give us a call and we will be glad to help. 1800-464-1713
Yes this will be the same for your excursion. The two best ways to identify your axle is first the bill of material number (found on the axle tube). Second the inner shaft spline count (shaft that goes into the differential). Dana 50 is 30 spline. Dana 60 is 35 spline.
awesome, Thank you...Would you happen to know the torque specs for the 4 studs on the hub assembly...I ordered a new stub shaft, hub and bearings for repair...The only thing I am having trouble with if finding the torque specs for the 4 studs...
Unfortunately we do not have these specs. Best thing would probably be to check any paper work that comes with a new hub or just do an internet search.
So, what parts would need to be replaced if you had slight (probably >1/8") all around movement/slop of the axle shaft at the u-joint which causes a clunking noise? A couple of years ago I replaced the front wheel bearing assemblies and installed Spicer U-joints on both sides of the axles on my 2002 F-250 Superduty. I doubt the u-joints are bad because the entire axle has this slop. Any thoughts? Seems like there should be an outer axle baring to support the ends of the axles before the U-joint. Also, I have Mile Marker manual hubs on my truck. Thanks in advance for your help.

Brake dust shields can be found here.venturestruckparts.com/product-category/1999-2000-2001-2002-2003-2004-ford-f250-f350-250-350-f-superduty/1999-2004-front-axle/page/3/
Ditto on Helpfulness! Thanks
My only beef with this and similar videos
is that no mention is given to
early vs late 1999 super duty parts
I have an early 1999 SD
manufactured in 3/98
so there are significant differences
in new parts vs the 99-2004 parts
Is Dana 60 or Dana 80?
is the dana 60 in the 2004 f250 super duty different than the 2006 f250? I notice on your website that the dana 60 OUTER AXLE SHAFT SEAL GREASABLE U JOINT KITs compatibility only goes up to 2004. great video btw! thanks for the upload
Yes it is different. Ford changed the design in 2005 to what they call a Super 60 (It will have coil spring suspension instead of the leaf spring) We do have the parts for these axles as well. If you want some help give us a call or e-mail us and we will be happy to take care of you! 1-800-464-1713 or ventures@readytek.net
Very helpful. Dropped a like! Thanks
Can you guys recommend a set of snap ring pliers that would make it easier to get that snap ring off on a 2005 model? Mine is deep!
Thanks!
many will work
Getting the studs out of the Hub Assembly is a pain in the butt we are managing having to hit the old Hub assembly with a torch to pull the studs. Do you have the part number for the axle seal?
Im not 100% sure what seal you are talking about. There are a couple of different seals in this axle. Give us a call and we will be glad to help. 1800-464-1713
would this be the same assembly and process for a 2001 excursion? V-10...and how would I know if its a Dana 50 or 60?

Great video. I have to check your website out.
If I pull my whole front axle assembly and take it in for rebuild can you do that?
Are you talking axle shaft? If yes, then yes it is serviceable.
Call us and we would be happy to answer any other questions. 1800-464-1713
