    Great job on your videos. I recall when I got my first two post lift about 29 years ago, and I also didn't know much about lifts then. You learn as you go, but having videos like yours are great to help new owners reduce the risks in using a lift.
    As a retired mechanic, and having installed a new lift about two years ago, I would say you are spot on with your recommended accessories.
    I do prefer a high stand over a trans jack for vehicle stabilizing, based on the load ratings.
    But, it's all good.
    Thanks. Stew B.

    I do use a tool cart. I have a shelf on each end, so if I need to close the lid I can. I also modified the drawer catch so they do NOT automatically lock when the lid closes.

    I 100 percent agree with your list BUT I would increase it by 1 more item and make the top item some portable lighting. Makes every item on your list easier and or safer to use when you can see exactly what you are doing.

    Just used my new symmetric champion lift for the first time this weekend. Really kinda jealous of your asymmetric. Just picked up a 20 gallon oil drain. Realizing the next thing on my list is definitely one of those under hoist stands. Having a long 1/2 ton truck on mine def made me nervous the way it rocked back and forth. Great suggestion on the transmission jack!! I’ll look at those.

    i went with a rubbermaid cart for a tool tray. a lot more service area, and i can use it to wheel in parts and packages. plus shop towels stay handy on the bottom shelf. can also add a raised plywood top to give yourself another work surface

    I would add under lift lighting before a transmission jack, unless you have to pull a transmission. Electrical outlet, air line, and a cut off switch for the hydraulic motor, in case the.relay or motor starter gets stuck. Tool tray is a must and tall jack stands.

    You should also get a set of 4 wheel hangers that mount to the lift arms. I'd get those before getting a transmission jack.

    I added a long extension cord to my lift button and can look under while starting the lift to check the alignment of the lift arms. and It has a magnet on it that I can attach to the support jack on the rear of the truck so I can not try to lower the truck with the stand in place and crash the trucl off the lift. my not be osha but works for me

    Hi Repair geek . I have good question for ya . This past summer I started a fluid film undercoating business. It been going very well. I now soon colder months with be approching us. My question what is a heat source that fluid film won't hurt. I currently have a wood stove in there but haven't used it yet . I used to burn one in my house for over 20 years but switched to something more convenient such as a pellet stove. I really am thinking about putting one in my uninsulated garage which is a 26x36 with 13 ft ceilings. Im a little concerned that the fluid film misr from when I spray it s
    Will affect the pellet stove. Please give me your thoughts on this . Thank you

    How tall are you Mr. it looks like you would have to be hunched over under that truck while working on it? I'm 5' 10" and I will need to stand straight upright so as not to suffer with my bad back.

      I'm 5' 10" as well. You will have to duck under the tires but at full height I can stand upright.

    What's the length of your 10-2 wire from breaker box to the lift.?

  • @BrianDoesStuff873
    @BrianDoesStuff873 3 года назад

    can you do an update video on what you did to remedy the AMP and wire ordeal did you rewire the lift with bigger wire also did you install a lower safety stop yet at the bottom so you can lift it only a foot or so, do you know how many amps it was pulling when you lifted your heaviest vehicle? thanks for making these videos.

    • @RepairGeek
      @RepairGeek  3 года назад

      No need to do an update video. I haven't done anything. I do not use the overhead safety switch. I just watch when I raise something. Big vans would hit the garage door before the safety switch anyways.
      Max amperage is about 12-14 amps. That was measured dead heading the pump at max height attempting to go higher. That is the most hydraulic pressure the system can see.
      You can't change the bottom lock. That you require a whole new carriage assembly. The carriage is what has 1/2 of the lock mechanism on it.
      About the only thing I've done to the lift is maintenance. Check the lags bolt torque yes they have moved slightly as the lift/bolts settle. They have held tight the past 3 years or so without changes. That and oil the cables and pulleys. Thats all I've done other than use it for 4 years.
