100% I remember I watched the movie "the mist" and it depressed the hell out of me I ended up in a funk. Then I watched "Epitome of Hyperbole" and it immediately took me out of my funk.
I have never heard Brian Regan curse. I feel like this interview should be front page news. He will always be my favorite stand up comedian. What a class act real person who just so happens to be one of the greatest stand ups of all time.
Gotta say, Brian. I’ve seen lots of comics through the years. Top notch…. I guess. You’re the only one that makes me laugh so hard, I literally fall out of my chair. Remember the “show horses” on the highway? That was EPIC YOU ARE MY FAVORITE
Brian Regan is so good. My daughter and I have been quoting him to each other for 10+ years. The Juice People, the Switch Flipper, ER Valet...we love it all. Neal is pretty good too.
“Brian Regan: Live!” is one of those specials that just lives in my head. It has shaped me as a person. I can’t even say “okay” without sounding like Brian. I say “bye human!” to everyone. I think I quote it literally everyday of my life. I couldn’t love him more
I think anecdotes like this are what makes artists into a mandated necessity for "all" cultures. To be a part of someone life, a part that brings joy, ......🥲
I haven't seen every episode of Blocks but I've never seen Neal get so giddy at a guest's bits and I think that speaks volumes to how deeply funny Regan is. I will always remember listening to him as a child in our van and my mom pissing herself to pretty much every bit.
His special "the epitome of hyperbole" is one of the first specials I seen! And for years quoted bits of his. Then years later when I got into comedy podcast, I felt validated when my favorite stand ups considered Regan one is the GOATS!!
I’d swear Brian’s comedy is like 90% delivery and he’s frikkin hilarious. He tells a normal highly relatable story funnier than almost anyone you’ve ever met in your life. If you haven’t seen his specials you’re truly missing out because he lives up to the hype!
FINALLY! BRIAN! I've actually watched "I Walked on the Moon" ON A FLIGHT with some random passenger (he noticed Brian's standup and I shared my laptop) and it was an amazing thing we shared in. I don't remember the guy's name, but how amazing two strangers can enjoy a thing.
Man, I love Brian! I watched the whole show immediately after I saw his name. Such a comedic master. He also seems like such a sweetheart here. I hope he takes luck! AND care.
You mentioned 2 of my favorite Brian Regan bits back to back. the UPS bit and the "guy at a party" bit. My favorite part of the last one is the guy with the lottery numbers. Just kills me. Who hasn't been in that situation and nobody does a better job of showing the absurdity of it as Brian. Love this guy. One of the all time greats!
47:24 has to feel SO good for Neal. I've seen a fair amount of interviews with Brian, and I've never seen him crack up THAT hard. Neal got him real good with a taste of his own medicine, lol. Brian even tries to out-hyperbole and riff with Neal, too. So fucking cool.
Any time I see a podcast or video or special with the names Brian and Regan smashed together...I am happy. Great talk with one of the absolute greatest in comedy!
9:14 "a lot of credit" Neal's laughter is my laughter. I've listened to the bit a dozen times and it still gets me. I like that Brian still enjoys the "balloons and champagne" line.
now THIS is what I want to see when I watch a comedian give an interview - talk about their bits, hear some of them, get to know them on a deeper level, and have some laughs. It really shows how much of a fan of Brian's Neal is. Great episode. And I'm only halfway through...
I was at the Funnybone in Des Moines at a Bert Kreischer show, drinking fireball with my Fiancé and Bert. Then we see Brian’s tour bus pull into the lot and he came in to meet Bert for the first time. It was glorious.
We went to see Brian and he did his set and was awesome and could have ended there but he asked if we wanted to hear something from before....I said the big yellow one is the sun....and he did that one too. We really love your stuff even when we have heard it before!
This is basically all I thought the whole time. It is SO clear how he genuinely is a fan. It's always something to see "celebrities" (said lovingly) engage with their actual peers. The energy is elevated.
Thank you. Glad the RUclips algorithm showed me this. While I've only been familiar with Brian for about 15 years. He's become one of my favorites. I've seen him live 3 times now and would never hesitate to go to the big city to see him again if my schedule permits. Thanks again for this interview
can't wait to listen to this. saw Brian last year live in Austin and he was great, will be interesting to find out what he thinks is wrong with himself
Patrice O’Neal “the comedians comedian” always mentioned Brian was a father birthing comedy babies. The biggest compliment is getting the compliment from the guy that is considered “the best” 3rd baseman
when I was in middle school Brian Regan: Live was the 2nd comedy special I ever heard, my mom would play the CD in the car all the time and it is still one of the funniest specials ive ever listened to
tuned in because i searched for Brian Regan and watched this interview n its entirety... came out a Neal Brennan fan... 1 out of 1. will watch some more
I was in San Antonio for weekend with wife last year and always heard this guy on old Sirius comedy station and he was playing 30 min after we got out of dinner and I got last minute tickets and he still kills. Dudes just hilarious.
Neal forgot the name of the "Me Monster" bit was also the name of Brian Regan's special: "I walked on the Moon" - one of my favorite specials to this day, across all comedians.
Brian, you have integrity. I appreciate that. I never ask anyone, on an airplane, or anywhere social , “what do you do for a living?” A lot of people hate what they do for a living and don’t want to talk about it. I am disabled and am an artist. Always been a huge fan of Brian Regan! He really does deserve to be in the HOF of comedians. insanely funny and does it clean. nothing but respect n love for that man
Brian’s one of those from an amazing generation of stand-up who takes the most mundane things that made you feel like an idiot and makes it some of the funniest stuff ever. It’s like, “Oh thank the Lord, somebody who can relate the emotional pain of taking a jar of loose change to the bank.” My ribs just ached. Brian is one of the all-time greats.
I was blown away and so excited when he made his last special... i got to experience Brian Regan again!! if you love stand up and dunno him... do ur homework! He is a living legend among comedians and comedy fans, and one of my top 5 of all time!
So much to say about his bits. I have favoriteS. One of my faves is Brian at the butterfly pavilion where it falls upon him to come up with questions for the butterfly expert…. LONGEST PAUSE with gesticulation and mouthing almost words punctuated waited by the clincher: “Does this one like to eat?” LEGEND.
Nels opening compliment was EPIC, had no idea Brian Regan was so well admired, as a fan I concur. Hair in my salad! Next exit, hole in the wall, yep, genius, glad his peers feel that way too. Great interview
Loved Brian Regan for so long~! Saw him at Cobb's in San Francisco in the late 90s. My two friends and I cried, laughed, cried, laughed. He is funny, hard funny. To see him live about 10 feet away was amazing. I've loved Seinfeld longer than Regan, but I think I laugh harder from Regan's comedy. Both kill. Brennan is my favorite comic. Saw Brennan in a backyard show during the pandemic. So fun.
Always loved Brian Regan. His restaurant bits about the black coffee and asking if there's any way to get a glass of water, hahah it's sooo good. Just to name two amongst many others.
Brian is easily top 5 all time... love him. Hearing about his early forming years on Bennington before... thrilled to see him on your podcast, Neal. Great insight.
Brian's comedy never fails to make me laugh. It always lifts my spirits. I just realized, that I may have to start listening to him while stuck in traffic to calm my nerves and make life a little happier. To his point of comedians not being funny in person, off stage, I prefer that. I've hung out with a comedian, and it grows tiring when they try to make a joke of everything. It's not fun being around someone like that for very long.
Brian Regan is 100% on the top 10 best comedians of all time. It's based on how many comedy fans and comedians love his work. Such a lovely guy with so much comedic genius. I wish I were there when that guy said he could do stand up comedy to BRIAN REGAN's face. Oh lord.
Brian is the best. He’s the first stand up comedian I ever saw live, after seeing him crush Comedy Central for years- and that was well over 10 years ago. Brian is a comedy fans deep cut- clean comedy that feels genuine. Love Brian Regan and can’t wait to see more from him.
Brian Regan is one of my sleeper favorites. I hate to say this, but when I think of my favorite comics, his name doesn't immediately pop into my head, but when I hear his name or see his face, my entire day gets better. Truly underrated.
14:40 Brian - it's incredible what that guy said. "Stand up? I could do that." I've spent a career giving large group presentations for various companies, and of course occasionally infuse some comedic asides into these. BUT I have a real phobia at the bare thought of trying to do stand up comedy in front of crowds. It's amazing what you do. And just as amazing that this guy actually said this so cock sure. Wow. Love your stuff Brian!
Brian is at the top tier of comedians in my opinion. Like he said he just doesn't have that huge following like a Chappelle or others and maybe it is because he doesn't have that one thing/niche. If he ever got a movie or tv deal where he's the main focus then he would easily well known as one of the top comedians out there. Every bit or stand up I've ever heard from Brian Regan has always made me crack up laughing. You can laugh with him at his jokes and really relate to some of them as well. Would love to be able to see him preform live one of these days
Man, I grew up on Brian Regan comedy albums as a kid; him being clean was the reason he was the ONLY comedian we heard very young! Tons of the bits are burned into me and my brothers' memories. "Well.. it's a cup.. with dirt in it." Classic legendary comedian!
Of all the stand-up I've shown my parents over the years, the hardest my mom ever laughed was Brian's bit about the eye doctor. Particularly about the trifolcals (you can see 3 different distances depending on where you look in the lens).
Friday Night Stand Up on Comedy Central ruled my life in the early 2000's. I remeber watching his Comedy Central Presents in like 2000-2001 and fell in love with his comedy. An absolute murder. One of the best of all time.
I taped about 30 of those during that time. So much great comedy and a helluva generation for stand up. Reagan was in my top 5 outta all of them at that time and he's still one of my favorites to this day.
Brian Regan is my antidepressant. His standup never fails to lift my spirits.
☀️
100% I remember I watched the movie "the mist" and it depressed the hell out of me I ended up in a funk. Then I watched "Epitome of Hyperbole" and it immediately took me out of my funk.
100% facts!
Hey that's my gum!? makes me smile every time.
Well said. I agree.
Brian Regan is my 2nd favorite comedian of all time, just after Norm Macdonald.
Norm Macdonald was also a huge Brian Regan fan and has said many times that he was his favorite guy working today
Such humility from literally one of the best to ever do it
This is one of the most genuine and endearing episodes you’ve done. Brian Regan, you’re a gem.
One of the greatest comics ever. As Norm Macdonald said “no one makes you punch a wall harder than Brian Reagan.”
Bill burr, Jerry Seinfeld and a few other comedians on comedians in cars getting coffee have all mentioned Brian as the top guy. Massive praise
This guy is an absolute murderer for years. So clever and his delivery is infectious
yeah and brian regan is pretty good too
He murders so much that he’s basically a serial killer.
No doubt. I definitely find . myself doing his delivery when I tell stories.
Absolute murderer and so key about it for his whole career
Manslaughter...
It’s so rare for Neil to genuinely laugh at his guests jokes. Loved seeing this.
Huh. Who knew. This is my favourite chat thus far. Loved it. Thanks!
My childhood. A legend.
Used to memorize his bits and tell them to friends in middle school. They killed.
all of high school for me was “moosen” I think that’s all we ever said
Its a cup...with dirt in it--- was an absolute CROWD KILLER in my dumbass group of friends
@@Tannerislegend oh i just howled. Many much moosen.
My son did the Black Coffee bit for his college speech class. Fantastic 🎉
❤ Omg, I love Brain Regan. Epic comedian!!

Brian is, and will always be, one of the best comics in stand-up history. Thrilled to watch this ep.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

“This is why I just stay home…because it’s too much. It’s too much.” Absolutely spot on, Neal.
Neal needs to produce Brian’s documentary/series 😂
What a smart & funny & articulate guy, & an authentically humble man! Kudos & thanks to you, Mr. Brian Regan!

My absolute favorite comedian and first person to make me fall in love with stand up. Brian 🤪
I found out about Brian when Norm MacDonald said he was a fan. I’ve also become a fan and so appreciate his work. Thank you for this.
