Which side of the slide should face down (toward the scan unit), the emulsion side or the shiny side? On my Epson V750 there are also a 5 pegs on the transparency holder (labelled "0" and "1" with arrows), which can be used to adjust the distance of the slides to the glass. This is for focussing. What settings would you recommend?

    hello.
i am wondering if i can use such scanners for enlarge small photos as to be able to print them on wallpaper!
I am using perfect photo suite for resize, but i was curious if i will get better results with a photo scanner.
For example...if i have a digital photo 2-3 inch high, can i scan it and enlarge it as much to be able to print it on the entire wall?
    thanks!

The main difference is with Film scanning ability, the V750 (now V850) is streets ahead and well worth the extra money, if film scanning is a high priority. For normal print scanning then the V600 will do the job just as well.

Vincent, excellent tutorial, as is all your work. As I look over scanning tutorials for the Epson Scan software, there are generally several additional settings that could be addressed. If you have the time, could you comment on these?
    a) When you set the Target Size to anything other than Original, do you know what the scanner is actually doing? Is it interpolating the output after the scan but before the file is sent to the computer for storage?
    b) With my 4870, when scanning a B&W neg, the Histogram Output setting defaults to 10 & 200, rather than 0 & 255. Is this something specific to the neg. I'm working on (a low contrast snow scene, for instance), or does Epson default to these or similar Output settings based on the software engineer's assumptions of the material that is most likely to be printed on? Should these be reset to 0-255?
    c) Also under Histogram is the Tone Curve Viewer with toe and shoulder curve options, and there is a Show Options button that apparently shows the change to the histogram. While this might be somewhat self-explanatory, any comments you may have would be appreciated.
    d) Finally, can you speak to the advantage/disadvantage of making a RAW scan? For this, I've been setting the color control, under the Configuration button, to No Color Correction, which prevents any exposure/histogram/color adjustments and provides a output file with no additional Epson software adjustments. You opinion of this method would also be appreciated.
Unfortunately, Epson's guidance on all these these settings is extremely sparse and generally not useful. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond.

Thank you so much for this video. Do you think there is a big difference between the V500 I have and the newer ones like the v600 or the 750?

It should be noted that Digital ICE will not work on Kodachrome slides. While it may eliminate dust and scratches, it does produce artifacts in the resulting scan.
