This was sooo fun to watch! That ridgeway rail shot was incredible! The reddish egret is also super cool. Thanks for always making such quality videos!
I lived in San Diego for six months as an exchange student many years ago. Unfortunately I wasn't a birder then, so missed the opportunity to experience some of the beautiful birds you highlight in this video.
I remember heading to San Diego. Very close to the bay where you were. I saw my first Baird’s sandpiper… don’t have them on the far eastern coast (around Georgia and Carolinas)
Baird’s is an awesome find here in San Diego! I’ve only seen them once here, but it was super close on the beach. I even got several cell phone pics of it.
Great video! Congrats on the ridgeway's rail! Rails are so difficult to see! Many of these species were ones I picked up on my trip to Texas this past March: vermillion flycatcher, say's and black Phoebe, Bewick's wren, great-tailed grackle, etc. Awesome birds!!
Thank you! I was so surprised it popped out for me haha. It's really cool how the Southern US shares a lot of the same birds even hundreds of miles away!
That rail is definitely a top five target for my clients. Don’t forget to forward me an eBird target list for you for San Diego in December. Curious to see how many lifers you can get in one day.
Epic Episode! Thanks for the info on Mojave's Narrow Regional Park - I definitely want to check it out now, especially after learning about the gorgeous Vermilion Flycatcher! Your enthusiasm for all these amazing SoCal birds makes the video lots of fun to watch! Any idea when they put up/take down the cattle fences?
Thanks so much! Not sure when they will remove the fences. It's very possible you could ask the rangers at the gate if it's accessible (there wasn't a sign saying I couldn't jump over the cattle fence I just didn't ask). I forgot to mention that there is an $8 entry fee (per vehicle), but as long as you get there early it's got some great birds!
W video! You should go up to Orange County area. You can most definitely see vermillion flycatchers at Huntington Beach Central Park. There are a couple families that live there.
Tough call to make when they aren't next to each other! I would check to see which is more common in your area! Also their calls can be differentiated as well!
@@brighteyedbirdingJudging from the size of yours, I'm guessing mine would be the lesser. They were both fishing in the water. The only calls I could hear where I was were Canada Geese and Killdeers.
Sometimes I just imagine how many lifers and cool birds I’d see if I lived in North America for a few months and went birding with you lol. But I’m hopefully going to Florida for 2 weeks next may so that would be a much better birding place than New York!
Hey Henry! I use the Nikon Coolpix P900! There are several newer models of this camera that I would recommend. It makes for an affordable starter camera, but eventually if you end up liking photography, you'll probably want to upgrade to something more robust.

I appreciate your kind words! Thanks so much for watching!
The ridgeways rail was banded too!! Amazing lifer!
I wish I could see the numbers on the band! But super cool nonetheless!

I lived in Mexico for several years and I feel the same way about that. Gotta go back and visit someday!

That's awesome! What a good lifer to pick up out there as well!
@@brighteyedbirding I went to Chicago last summer too and thought I saw one but it was just a greater yellowlegs, still cool birds though.

That was one wild encounter with a ridgways rail!
I couldn't believe it! This rabbit chased it right to me. And then it just gave great views for 2 minutes straight hah!
That rail is so cool! Congrats on that!
Thank you!! I was super surprised it came and walked right in front of me!

Hi, good morning to you from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 SAR. Have you had the chance to see any California Condor ?
Yes!! Such amazing birds. Go check out my California Condor video! One of my favorites!
Yo some of the shots you got in this video were SO good!!! The Black Phoebe, Ridgeway Rail, Western Bluebird. Major props to the camera work
Thanks so much! Appreciate you watching Hawkin!

I'll definitely send you the list! Looking forward to December!

Thanks for watching! Been up there a few times (can't remember if I have a few videos from there) but I will definitely be back!!
I saw a Sanderling in the mix of shorebirds.
Great eye! I'll have to go back and look again! Thanks!
10:20 woah I didn’t know turkey vultures did that.
I've only seen it in Southern California, but it they do tend to kettle up to ride those heat waves!
Nice! Hope to meet you in San Diego if it works out when you return.
Yes I will reach out over the next few months to coordinate!
I saw my first Yellowlegs in Minnesota last week! I'm not sure if it was greater or lesser, as there was nothing to compare it to.

Would be a lot of fun for sure! Sounds like an awesome trip you have planned! Hope you find some awesome lifers!
My favorite bird from this video was the vermilion flycatcher. I'm looking forward to Halloween, and I will pretend to be a great gray owl.
Great choice and nice costume! Look out for my Spooky Bird Stories video coming out near Halloween!
Reddish!
Such a beautiful bird!
Your lifer was banded too. Were you able to see the band info by zooming in?
I wasn't able to unfortunately! I will try to zoom in on some photos I took when I have a few minutes tonight!
What camera setup do you use if you don’t mind me asking? I’m trying to dip my toe into photography and am looking at some cameras.
