    Watching how spontaneous and bold you are with your art is very inspiring and fun. I was in suspense the whole time not knowing what you were gonna do next lol. I am impressed that you were able to persevere through it all (on camera!) This is truly one of your best videos and illustration yet. 👏🏾

    I really love your use of depth in your paintings!! It makes them feel so unique. And I really like how brave you are with your work. I would have been scared to ruin it, and would have left it as it was right before the green pizza stage (which was fine but what you got in the end was so much more fun!) But throughout this the fact you liked what you were making reminded me how personal art is, and how it only matters if YOU the artist actually like your work (as opposed to always second guessing and trying to please anyone other than yourself). It makes your work more awesome! I'm glad you like your work, hearing you say so made me happy!

    I know you said you hate transferring a sketch to full scale paper but I would absolutely love a video on your process for that.
    It's something I'm interested in and every time I try I end up just frustrated and never happy with the results.
    Any kind of methods or tips and tricks on that topic would be so appreciated because there's so little about it out there.

    Lol I was so scared when you added the marker shadow below the characters and the dripping 💦💦 but it definitely added to the piece ❤ I've never tried markers over watercolor so I should give it a shot.
    I don't find the green pizza unsettling, I think it made it look more magical 💕

    Haha I'm with you on the transferring sketch to full-scale paper being the most tedious part of the whole art making process. I hate it so much that I actually use projector especially for larger scale artworks. It's a little awkward at first because you have to sit or stand on the side of the paper to not cover the image from the projector with my body, but you get used to it. At least I can put in rough sketches on the paper and work in detail much quicker, which I actually do enjoy. 😂

    I also liked how you went it with different mediums, for some strange reason I limit myself and if I'm working with watercolors I'm like NOPE I CAN'T USE COLOR PENCILS I HAVE TO DO THIS WITH WATERCOLORS ONLY which is dumb, but Imma try to change that

    The green is really fun with the pinks and purples :) Is the yellow for the second shadow a highlighter color perhaps? It looks like it through the camera and is probably not going to scan well but those bright colors are so pretty in person :D

    • @ChrisHongArt

    Hello! I love your art so much! If you don’t mind me asking, how do you figure out a realistic sense of lighting in an imagined scene? I love your sense of light and shadows and I would love to know how you map that out? Awesome video!

    • @ChrisHongArt
      @ChrisHongArt  Год назад +3

      thank you! hmm i'm not sure i would say this piece has a very realistic sense of lighting, as I worry I may have been a bit inconsistent with it. But I usually try to imagine the light source coming from a single direction and casting the shadow in the opposite direction, if it's direct lighting (indirect lighting would have softer shadows). Designing the lighting really depends on the mood I want to aim for the piece! I think for this it didn't require the lighting to be dramatic, just enough to model the forms in a somewhat convincing way that gives some sense of depth in the space ^^;; hope that helps!

    • @laurenmc295
      @laurenmc295 Год назад

      @@ChrisHongArt thanks for replying! That is helpful! Do you ever use references for trickier lighting or do you rely on your own knowledge of how light and shadows work?
      In my own artwork, I’m worried i get too caught up in making the lighting realistic to the point of being too reliant on reference-which is very difficult when wanting to create an imagined scene that doesn’t necessarily have a reference. I guess it’s good practice to build up an understanding of basic lighting/shadow concepts and apply them to the best of your ability to the imagined space?
      Thanks again!
