    As a (late) celebration of 10k subscribers and my Christmas gift to you all, this is the fourth of four remastered analyses that I've rebuilt from the ground up, complete with new reductions, annotations, and much greater quality. I'll probably remaster more of my old reductions in the future, so if you have any specific requests, please let me know!
    Once again, thank you all for another great year! Merry Christmas!

      Love your channel and I think your reductions and analyses are incredible. The amount of work that goes in is staggering. Is the only way to get the PDFs to join your Patreon at the $20/month level? Or are they also available at other levels too? Thank you again for your amazing work!

      I always like to think about what someone from even 100 or more years ago would imagine if they heard just the music without context

      I love that big booming brass sound you get when film composers use more than the typical 4 horn ensemble. In the How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, John Powell actually uses a whopping 12 horns and the result is absolutely beautiful!

    I can never help but feel disappointed when in the film it switches from this outstanding original Williams duel cue to a needledrop of the familiar Duel of the Fates. Feels like we were robbed of hearing even more greatness from the maestro.

    • @malusofficial
      @malusofficial 2 года назад +37

      I felt Duel of the Fates was the perfect addition to the midpoint of the two duels. We have already established the duel theme in several keys, and now the score switches to Duel of the Fates to represent how the fate of the galaxy is at its highest stake when these four master force wielders duel for the first and last time. It really makes sense using it, since it debuted in TPM, appeared briefly in AOTC when Anakin was searching for his mother (which would also be his first official turn to the dark side, leading him to his ultimate fate), and it finally appeared at the end here too. I love the Battle of the Heroes and Anakin vs. Obi Wan cues more than Duel of the Fates, but it's far from a waste of the score. It is a masterpiece too.

      Are you kidding? That was an AMAZING transition. If anything the OST doesn't do the transition justice like the movie does.

    • @TatankaTaylor
      @TatankaTaylor Год назад +7

      The transition was made because it IS a duel of the fates at that point of the battle. Both Jedis are evenly matched. So its up to fate who wins.

      Duel of the Fates in Episode 1 is about the fate of Anakin if Qui-Gon dies, in Episode 3 it is about the fate of the galaxy at the point of the Republic and Jedi Order’s fall. It’s a perfect fit mate

    David, thank you for this analysis. In regards to the drum added during the choking part, is this drum a "gran cassa" or a something else? Also, I am hoping to see the continued score with the "Heroes Collide (the continuation of the scene), especially the pattern at 1:41 into the cue. I've noticed Mr. Williams likes to use those rhythmic patterns quite a bit.

      I think I remember seeing that some of the opening battle queue of the film uses taiko drums, maybe those were brought back for this section?

    • @ErnestoComposer
      @ErnestoComposer 2 года назад +1

      When it first enters it sounds like “gran cassa”, or bass drum, being hit with a hard mallet and a timpani with it. The timpani cuts out but the bass drum keeps going

    David, at the 3:24 mark, something is repeated that is not shown. Is there a way we could see a repeat sign in this section? Right around 3:30, the music is different from that last measure on that particular page. Thank you!

    Great work, just to let you know than on measure 35 (and repeated on 43) the first half note is a G sharp instead of the F sharp (the upper one), this makes the difference.

      Yes, I tried to use the score as heard in the film (the film version has the drum hits much louder).

  • @gabewilliams9429
    @gabewilliams9429 2 года назад +2

    So how does the pattern that plays in the piano/celeste during the 'windy' section work? By that, I mean with the way it's written there, because I experimented on Musescore and the measure only came out to be a triplet tied to a quarter note when I converted the 2nd block/set of 4 32nd notes to 64th notes.

    • @DavidMcCaulley
      @DavidMcCaulley  2 года назад +1

      I can't remember how I manipulated the notation specifically (there's definitely hidden tuplets in there), but it's supposed to be more of an unmetered passage rather than the players playing it exactly and rhythmically accurate; an excellent way to add to that "wind" effect!
