I am so, SO glad you switched from in-line shoulders to stacked shoulders. There's so many devices that do in-line shoulders, and it always feels just awful. Stacked is just so much more intuitive and easy to use.

Ditto, look forward to DS emulation the most actually. Did not even occur me that this could be used in vertical. At this point so conditioned to DS games being in landscape and eyes being mostly shifted to the left where the action is happening. Glad to hear vertical will be an option.

    • @sebastianarmstrong5726
      @sebastianarmstrong5726 2 дня назад +5

Definitely. Most ways of doing ds emulation kinda suck (landscape handhelds or pc getting the dual screen right is hard, and any current controllers that have phone grips don't support vertical)

    • @GNM-
      @GNM- День назад +3

That was also my favorite part, I just hope the d pad is still clicky while they are trying to make it silent.
I also hope the frosted clear version doesn't become yellow over time.
I hear clear plastic on game controllers can become yellow because of oxidation, uv light, heat, humidity, etc.
If you think about it, the controls being to the left and right of the bottom screen and the top screen being above,
Is just like the original DS.
Aside from actually playing on a 3ds or ds, this is the closest I've seen a controller for emulation get to an authentic feeling ds.

I’m with the others on not dedicating time for the Xbox royalties thing. I believe the demographic for this product is everyone who wants to game on their phone so, being able to play streamed games defeats the purpose imo.

This partnership absolutely blows my mind. Been a big fan of Josh and his project ever since his first RUclips video dropped. And with Dale, I’ll admit, it was not love at first sight. I was a “popsocket stan” for years and saw reviews the first few oh snap grips were awful... all that seem to change with the Luxe4 model. It still took months of me watching IG ads to be persuaded, but I finally pulled the trigger and bought TWO oh snap grips. Best decision ever! You wouldn’t think a phone grip would change your day-to-day life all that much but it totally did. The design is superior in every way to what I was using before.
So the news that the kid in his bedroom trying to make a MagSafe gaming controller was gonna be collaborating with one of the best (albeit not the biggest) phone accessory manufacturers…it’s the unexpected match made in heaven.
Seeing these two minds, collaborate to overcome tedious, yet important design decisions is nothing short of inspirational. Huge kudos to already passing your Kickstarter goal. I’m so proud to be a backer and can’t wait to see where this all leads!

I wasn't a fan of the middle gap in the controller and the whole spring mechanism thing, but after listening to you, I understand now why it's there, so now I really want to try it)
And also I think the naming like Ohsnap Controller may be more fitting to this device than Mcon, because of the "Snap!" sound when you open it😊

Quiet buttons are a great choice for those of us who enjoy playing at night next to our significant other.
The DS vertical orientation also seems awesome.
Im not sure if it was addressed or if it is possible, but some subtle lighting for the buttons would be awesome (with a shortcut to turn the light off please)

The ability to play DS games in portrait will be amazing so please don't tweak the design to the point of removing that functionality. Also, in terms of button feel: I appreciate quieter buttons. Love the deep dive insights to what you guys are already working on/taking feedback for. The right to repair and 3D print mods for the controller I think will be amazing to go hand in hand with the M-Con's universal nature. You already don't have to worry if this will be compatible with your next phone upgrade, but if there was something that felt off going from your old phone to a new one you could print an adjustment to fix any of those issues.
Also love that you already planning on getting feedback from Russ who already has the "Contra/Shoryukenable/hadokenable" dpad tests. And all of his other quality insights to what makes a controller great.

"Oh snap!" 😛 is what I said when I saw the ad for this and I immediately backed it. So excited to see that the company I've entrusted my phone grip / mount / stand to for YEARS has put their expertise into another awesome product. I love how sincere both of you come across, and the genuine interest you express in doing this the 'right' way. Everyone has their own opinions but you're doing great.
The vertical option is mind blowing, especially for emulation, and I'd like to see a potentially rotatable extension plate or some other method to still allow access to the joysticks when in vertical mode. The ability to use the plate as a stand and disconnect the controller would be sweet, when I lay in bed my hands are warm under the covers when I play my switch, and if I'm on my phone my arms tend to get tired and cold.
    Love the customization.
The only thing I'll say about licensing to work directly with an Xbox is - without that, will a mapping software be needed? As long as you can play Xbox games through your phone linked to game pass or the like, I don't think it's truly necessary, but experience has shown me button mapping can be buggy.
Working with the switch/2 might be cool too.
I know nothing is truly universal, but what y'all are doing is amazing. Regardless of what the final design is, it will be miles above not having one. I'm really impatient to play Hades on my phone with it 😆 tired of my fingers cramping! Can't wait for mine!
And the clear is cool, but so would a frosted clear-black 😎

I’m usually a clicky button kind of guy but in this context I think the silent buttons make a lot of sense, I’m definitely going to be using it out in public and would rather not have people stare at me because my loud ass phone controller.
I love the possibility to use this in a vertical orientation! Never even considered that possibility but it would make emulating DS games SO clutch.

  • @TheCoolDave

Call of Duty mobile, on most phone controller addons, they need screen mapping software and very buggy. If you connect an Xbox controller to your phone, it just works. Does this work without needing screen mapping software? It's question I posted to the Kickstarter 2 times and no answer at all.
And what version of Bluetooth does this support? The newest version (5.4) keeps lag low but, keeps backwards compatibility with everything and better battery life. If now is the time, going to the latest will have an advantage here.

    • @SRC267

I'm a big proponent of USB-C connectivity. If I was to game on my phone, I'm gonna want to use the max power of the CPU/GPU that that phone has to offer. Having USB-C PD would be excellent. You keep your phone charged during game play, the joystick is connected for zero lag, and your phone should be set to run at max specs. I would highly recommend this as a priority for your first production milestone. Also, for lag, if you want to test a game that has significant lag with BT vs wired, play NES Mike Tyson's punch out, its a drag for BT devices.

I don't forsee this happening. Mainly because that would start to cannibalize potential sales of the Snap 4 Luxe. Not only does using the Snap 4 Luxe give you a grip plus stand, it eliminates the need for one of the pucks. Which depending on the phone/case combo you could get by with just having a Snap 4 Luxe on your phone and not needing the pucks at all. I imagine they will probably start offering bundles of the Snap 4 Luxe with the M-Con for this very reason. But I could be wrong.

When it comes to Xbox Wireless support i honestly believe it isn't worth it. This device is mobile focused with the nice to have ability to use it on PC because, well, mobile phones use the Xinput standard, same thing as most PC games. Adding on top of that would just add cost for the very small minority of people that, for some reason, would prefer to use this controller over a normal console controller.

My thoughts on the things you wanted feedback for as one of your backers. (Sold on the idea from the day Josh uploaded his original video.)
The made for Xbox thing doesn't really matter to me, maybe a gen 2 thing
I vote ergonomics over vertical screen gaming. The screens would probably be too small for DS emulation imo. The folding phone would be sick DS emulation though!
I'm fully behind right to repair over "design" (hiding screws and glue). Maybe color matching the screws would be a happy medium. Love the idea of leaning into the 3d printing stuff. I think this controller will have a strong community.
I'm typically a buy the black color person, but I'm gonna go for the frosted case.

  • @michaelharrington2762
    @michaelharrington2762 День назад +2

Vertical mode definately holds value given there are very few good DS and 3DS emulation experiences beyond just playing on the original consoles. The aspect ratio of the average phone screen accommodates DS/3DS emulation very well, but controller offerings that support a vertical orientation are nigh-nonexistant. It may be worth considering making a wider/larger version of the m-con to allow this kind of flexibility if better vertical mode support negatively impairs the ergonomics.

And one of the original reasons I was interested in this is because I would NOT have to take my case off to use it. Since you are prioritizing speed that is an absolute necessity. So I am glad by default are going with a plate that can accept a wide range of phones with or without cases on them.

I was REALLY really concerned about Vertical Mode not working since I love playing DS games on my phone! It's so awesome that it works for now and I would love for you guys to include it as a design constraint going forward!

I really like all the things you said. So no pushback from me on anything.
I’m won’t ever use it with my Xbox so I don’t care about that.
I like the idea of being able to play vertical games with it too so as long as it isn’t detracting from something else I’d like that feature.
I also think a future upgrade path for picky people to pick particular switches would be cool, but I don’t think that should be a prior to release concern.
I’ll be interested in a custom plate for my particular iPhone if you get those out.
The only thing I can think of as an additional feature: it would be cool if it could wirelessly charge my phone. Plug the controller in and essentially game uninterrupted as long as I want even if both it and my phone were at 1%. That’s going to add a lot to the cost though so I think it would be great on a later version, but it’s not something for this kickstarter version.

The gap could be reduced by just having the circle part as the mount "plate" so that the camera bump isnt conflicting with the currently rectangular plate. It can be futher reduced by recessing the magnet into the ring by the depth of the single puck.
    Edit:spelling

Really smart details like the wake button being one of the hidden buttons. Very excited for this product. ever consider a "Have an iPhone" model to not waste the universal mount?

Do wonder if it is possible to make a mini version of it. Like maybe for for the sticks use the same technology as those nubs on ThinkPad laptops as they move kind of like a stick and click in like a stick.
If it is possible I definitely would like a miniaturized version available.

One potential idea to think about would be to add wireless charging to the MCON through the connecting plate, to allow charging the controller through the use of reverse wireless charging (for the phones that support it). Not sure how possible it would be, but would be a cool party trick to charge it without relying on cables.

A lack of a puck (just slapping the phone on with my case) would be perfect but understandable why it’s necessary. Also, the alignment magnet doesn’t seem to make a difference. Adding it makes it seem more Apple-centric.

While it might be easy to retrofit that, you could include a NFC tag to be able to automatically launch something on the phone once you connect the controller

Did I miss if they said what type of controlers they are going to use. Hall effect or standard analog? Also no need for the extra money for xbox consol comparability on ny part I have xbox controlers for that. Id hate to have to keep changing the pairing every time I change from ohone to xbox.

I would love to have the option to use micro switches on all connections. Personally I've found membrane to be extremely flaky. I understand why you want quiet buttons, but it's not a big problem for me personally.
You mentioned it's possible to have different configurations with different switches, so just throwing my vote out there.

You mention "foldables", but I'm hoping smaller ones like the Samsung Flip or Motorola Razor are supported in some way. Since the center of those phones is the hinge followed by an outer screen, the puck may not be able to move far enough to center the controller.
Hopefully I don't need to switch my phone to use this. 😬
