@@julitakamaki4386 I do agree with that. As an American who's lived in Asia half my life, it is the most accommodating country I've experienced. But I also see how it can be stressful and some Americans are certainly more rude.
When I visited NY, the most diverse city in the world, nobody tried to speak to me and my family anything but English. I was the only one in my family who spoke a bit of English but my family spoke no English. I was just 13 and I had to make a phone call with the guy who rent us the room and I was struggling very much. I found it weird since NY is so touristy and diverse, I expected people to speak multiple languages. I guess the rest of the USA is even worst.
@marty8895 Ny is diverse, but thats exactly the point. You may not find anyone who speaks other languages, and you may find people who speak lots of languages. Its always a silly statement to lump all of the US together. Some states are bigger than European countries. The whole country cannot be the same and it REALLY isnt.
"America is accommodating" - How many stores can speak Japanese, Korean or X language? How many Americans know and respect foreign cultures, countries, etc (I've seen plenty of videos where Americans cannot even name 3 different countries, how can they respect their cultures in that case)? Nah, America can be friendly, but only as long as it won't become an inconvenience. In Japan and Korea, people go out of their way to be accommodating, even if they are inconvenienced or are helping a foreign with their own stupidity (got lost, lost their wallet, is asking for directions, etc).
I think america is accomodating in the sense more that in (some) places its very diverse so even if you dont speak english you can somehow grt by with your language. Also a lot of services are available in minority languages which you don’t see in many places. I noticed in japan all buses and tourist info was written in japanese korean english and chinese wow! Sometimes even thai and viet! Whereas in quebec they refuse to out anything except for french, even though they receive tons of tourists a year and is part of canada lol! Every place is different
I visited Baku in 2023. Only 1% population speaks English. Our hotel only had one person on duty who could communicate with us in broken english. Rest of our trip, we used hand gestures to try to talk to locals. Never complained about it. It was a fun experience. My mum haggled with shop keepers for discount using hand gestures and the whole spiel "lets go, we find something better elsewhere".
I understand his point but it's also good to accommodate foreigners who come to visit your country and show them kindness. It's not an obligation to speak English but it's always good to learn other language and knowing to speak English is very beneficial.
nah he totally made up that thing. i've never heard anybody ever say that korea NEEDS to be this or that. people usually say IT IS like this or like that and they simply accept it. + korea wants to be more open so they listen to the critics
actually in America to this day people still tell foreigners to speak English and belittle them as if they’re unintelligent. I mean yeah the US can be super accommodating but they can also be super racist and xenophobic. But you never here the foreigners that come to the US say “WELL WHY DONT YOU LEARN MY LANGUAGE” that is an American mindset that people should do things for you instead of you doing things to make it easier for them. The respectful thing to do when visiting other countries is to try to understand their culture and adhere to their norms and just be respectful
Omg his comment about America being accommodation? No. If you don't speak English, or you don't have a white country English accent... yeah right! And I'm white AND Canadian and I see this!
And I'm a Blk American and we've seen it for over 400 yrs. One the thing that get me is when white Americans tell black Americans " oh you speak so well " WTF 😮😮 😠 😡 😤 burns my biscuits
As an American, I agree with the fact that all of the people who think they are better than everyone else thinks that when they go to another place or country, they think the people there are going to kiss their asses or worship the ground they walk on, when the world doesn’t revolve around them. Me and my dad are planning on going on a trip to Japan, and we’re actually taking the time to look things up and learn the language too. The people who don’t, I recommend that before you go anywhere, don’t expect there to be English, because it’s not going to help. Expecting English and knowing there’s English are two different things. If you’ve never been, take the time to learn about the culture and language so that you’re not rude or seeming rude. It’s common sense
Yeah, it is true that countries do not have an obligation to be accomodating. However, if they want to encourage tourism, it definitely helps to at least be nice
Being someone from a third world country, I’m already pleased and impressed by the safety in Korea, that’s enough to me, friendly or not depends mostly on individual to individual, plus I believe if you want to travel to some country, you would’ve at least searched up a little bit about the language, not expecting everyone will know fluent English, because it’s not their obligation. Anyways I’m simply shocked by how people from first world countries can be bothered and unpleased by the smallest things
I think that none of those people are from New York. lol honestly it sounds just like that here in NY. As a New Yorker I get annoyed with tourists disrupting my day to day, and they forget that people actually live and work here. And they tend to complain a bunch too, mostly because they haven't researched properly and have no common sense. They forget this is a real place and not some glittery fantasy land. New Yorkers are also used to people not speaking English because lots of residents here don't. Idk I think New Yorkers would have an easier time overall
It's the double standard. The west has to accommodate everyone and still be labeled as racist, while everywhere else can be exclusionary and it's excused as culture
But selling the country itself as super open is lead to people thinking that. Some people dont just expect korea be super open to them if it werent because they had been told that.
As an American, I agree 💯 % it's like if someone comes visits you in your home. And tells you they don't like your furniture and you should have put in the furniture that they would like or cook the food they like. 😮😮Crazy 🤪 ass hell. When in Rome or Korea do as the Romans or Koreans 😜😅😊
Yeah! This is about the western tourists in general they want everywhere they go to be like home. Most of south asia is tea drinking. Dont expect to get coffee everywhere. And if you still want coffee find places and spend money to get good coffee.
Yes, United States is accommodating when it comes to businesses, but not on daily life. Most native Americans speak only English. It is unrealistic to go to a foreign country not knowing at least the basics and expecting others to accommodate you with English, especially when living there.
I agree with him even though I didn't feel like Korea was at all unwelcoming or unaccomodating to foreigners, speaking as a foreigner myself. I'm pretty introverted with strangers so I was fine with interaction with strangers not being a big thing there and was prepared to use my phone to translate things but I genuinely didn't even really need to very much while I was there. People were friendly enough in my experience and tended to speak first in English to me. Could be because I was mostly in areas that had more foreigners though.
Just a few days ago my sister came back from a cosmetic shop and sighed "Ugh, that lady couldn't speak a bit of English and didn't even give me a bag." And I said "Oh yeah? And did you try to say anything in Korean to her? Anything at all? No? Well there you go." I swear, this approach that somehow Koreans owe something to the rest of the world and need to be more accommodating - no. Especially when literally all you need to do is say "hello" in Korean and they will immediately accept you to your family (:D:D:D:D happened to me several times!!)
As a minority american I disagree not every city in the states is accommodating. You have racist people telling you to go back to your country and making fun of you due to your race/culture. There are more countries that are accommodating than the U.S. Especially due to the influx of immigrants coming to the U.S many americans are tired of foreigners. I personally keep to myself and as long as no one is doing anything to me I won’t be rude and try to be accommodating or helpful. Everyone is different and to each their own.
Yup for sure. I’m first gen American and there are a lot of places that have been downright hostile. I’ll never forget having to stop in a gas station in West Virginia in the middle of nowhere. That’s the only time I really understood the term sundown town.
I get what he's saying, but 'Privileged' isn't the right word. It's just a cultural difference. Like any other cultural difference, it causes an initial shock when you visit a new place. Acknowledging your feelings about it doesn't mean you're judging them or expecting them to change for you.
I totally agree with this dude and as someone who lived in Japan before I actually miss all the nerdy otaku foreigners. At least they actually liked Japanese culture. All the foreigners I meet here in Korea seem to be so superficial, in it for the tail and kpop, never set foot in a traditional market and wrinkle up their nose at the idea of Korean traditional food. It’s depressing.
no and korea IS friendly, we've had so many kind encounters and not even one where we thought "wow, that was unfriendly", they might not be as open but rather reserved, nothing about that is unfriendly though
Thanks, man!! That's my word!! Why do you expect a nation to change so you can feel better?!! If you can't adapt, the world is big enough ~ explore!! There is a better place for you for sure
I mean, it's true, and it goes both ways. I mean, if they want to refuse foreigners enter some of their establishments thats their right, but they should accept and be ok when they're rejected as foreigners in another country as well and not complain about it.
That is also my experience! These damn American (I am from there too, but I am Jamaican). I went on a tour with a group of retired veterans, and ALL the wife did was complain and complain. They only ate American food, and then complain more. I had to distance myself. I'm visiting your country. If you don't want to talk to me, don't. But I going to enjoy my experience. So far, everyone has been awesome and my experiences have been good.
Look if you're going to a foreign country, take the time to at least research and learn at least the very basic and useful phrases of that country. I speak Korean on a toddler level but best believe I was speaking Korean when I could or using papago. I was not expecting them to use English, because English isn't their language. A lot of Americans expects the world to cater to them, and as an American im disgusted by this mindset. Contrary to popular belief the world does NOT revolve around us. And like he said, the country is friendly enough. I found them more friendly towards me and my friends when we actually attempted to speak their language, instead of complaining that they didn't speak English or understand us.
Taxi drivers in Seoul have no patience for foreigners. This is what I noticed. And experienced. One taxi driver dumped us on the side of the road because they couldn’t understand English! Very rude.
It's their country. It is Korea. The whole world is not the same as the US, UK or Europe etc. If you're in Rome, act as Romans. So if you're in Korea act as Koreans. It's a priviledge from God to be able to visit another country, we need to be grateful to God Almighty! Appreciate what is good, pray for what is bad. ❤🙏🏾
Yeah I understand his point about not expecting them to speak English and certain things not accommodating I agree. But it when he said it’s friendly enough and that America was accommodating I’m like yeah of course they were friendly to YOU. You’re white American dude. Try being from an African, Middle Eastern or SEA country and everything changes. I say this as someone whose family is Ethiopian but has an American passport. People are much nicer to me as a Black person with an American passport vs to my African friends who don’t. Even in America my Dad talks about speaking fluent English but ppl being discriminatory towards his accent & things he faced when he came to this country. Like cmon dude you’re showing how deeply privileged you are.
I just read a comment from a kpop fan who complained that the company wouldn't post official communication in English. Like child, why don't you learn Korean???
They usually have separate accounts for each language they communicate in, but otherwise, I'd just throw it into Google Translate and/or search for articles that are in a language that I can speak. Not everything will be in your language(s).
Girl bffr. I’d agree with you IF kpop isn’t trying to appeal to western audience, but kpop is trying VERY hard to appeal to the western audience, and if you’re gonna try to bring an audience, can’t you at least do the basic thing of translation?? Kpop has been trying so hard to make their songs, put english lyrics and etc. just so they become noticed in the west. I don’t see how it’s so hard to translate subtitles to english when in reality, they put english versions in every song there is.
I hope you get your cookie. Kpop is trying to become more global and appeal to western audience. Therefore they should be accommodating. In this case it’s flipped. If you can’t accommodate your English speaking audience you shouldn’t try getting their support
I agree with him. Well I've never traveled to Korea I have traveled to many countries overseas. I have found that many Americans are very rude and entitled. They expect to be catered to in these countries to a certain degree. They get annoyed when everyone doesn't speak English. They complain about food they don't like. They don't try to comply with that country's traditions and manners. They think other countries peoples are rude even though they're in their country. In other words, they don't try to adapt to the country they're visiting they want the country and the people to adapt to an American way of life. This is very entitled and presumptuous. Plus it gives those Americans and other foreign travelers of bad name. There are many of us that just want to learn and be respectful and if we do something rude it is an unexpected oversight. If you tell us nicely we will definitely apologize and beg for your forgiveness. By the way I'm an American.
Im in croatia and literally they got mad at me for asking for a tax refund with my passport??? After i paid more than 100 euros? Idk about kindness but Korea is more than accomodating when it comes to tax refunds for sure looool
There's a difference between accommodation in being judgemental races. Some comments be listing country that lack accommodations meanwhile does same countries have proven to be racist towards other people.
When you go to a country, its ur obligation to speak at least the basic of the native language. Korea is a beautiful place, have nice food and very beautiful people. PS: you should marry me ❤
If you go and visit, no. You must learn the lingua franca of the world. If you go for work staying for a while, learn at least the basics of the foreign country's native lexicon. If you plan on staying on said foreign country long term then you must learn the country's language or, in some cases, one of it's regional languages depending which part of the country you are going to stay.
Was at a shrine and it clearly says not to walk on the spirt stone path yet a bunch of Europeans walked on it. Even after the guide told everyone not to walk on it, people did still.
This dude really started out with the pick me vibes of "I'm not like those other foreigners" then said, but I'm thinking the same thing. Also, America? Accommodating? Oh, the amount of snow white privilege oozing from him is laughable. As a Filipino American, born and raised in the South in the States, I can say for a fact, that the accommodations are far and few between here. He knew he was visiting a foreign country. He could have done a little research, learned a few phrases to help make things easier, but no, the citizens of a different country than the States should treat Americans, I mean foreigners, better...because they are foreigners??? They should learn a completely different language other than their own in a homogenous society?
Tourists tend to forget you're a TEMPORARY GUEST in a foreigner country, if anyone should accomodate to anything, it's the tourist to their culture and ways.
How is America accommodating??? I can't even speak Spanish with my parents outside without some racist weirdos screaming at us: "DIS IS OMERIKAAAAAA!!!" bro, we were here before you. That's why almost every town mountain, river, etc, is named in Spanish. You were the ones who came uninvited. Just get over it already.
Yes, we have laws that accommodate foreigners and immigrants. We have signs and things in more languages than just English. You get benefits here, being an illegal immigrant. I feel like people just need an excuse to hate on America.
Language maybe yes, you should learn the basics of the foreign language before visiting or just use google translate and not complain about locals not speaking English. But BUT that’s not the case with kindness. Not just Koreans, people all across the world would do a whole lot better being more kind and accommodating to others.
For all people in here, ENGLISH IS A VERY BASIC LANGUAGE. Okay? So when you said that foreigners shouldn't expect to see any person in non English first-language country such as Korea, Japan or China, at least, the bare minimum, they don't run away when we approach them. Many Korean people run away from us like we are infected with diseases. Being not friendly and can't speak English are different things. Besides, South Korea has crazy education system yet the people even can't/don't speak English at all? Seriously? Even third world countries like SEA, they can do better.
No country in the world has the obligation to completely change itself to please foreigners. This is a fundamental concept.
All these people really need to take a trip to France to appreciate Asian accommodation.

In Japan and Korea, people go out of their way to be accommodating, even if they are inconvenienced or are helping a foreign with their own stupidity (got lost, lost their wallet, is asking for directions, etc).
Exactly 👏👏👏
I loved Korea when I was there. Everyone I spent time with was so accommodating and kind. I can't wait to go back.
As a Kiwi I LOVED Korea and I never expected special treatment, but I was embraced by Koreans I met. I still miss it
actually in America to this day people still tell foreigners to speak English and belittle them as if they’re unintelligent.
The difference between the guys' and the girl's height is crazy 😲
wow, I didn't notice until I saw this comment
She is just short
😂😂😂 I didn't notice
They treat other countries as if they are amusement parks.
It's the double standard. The west has to accommodate everyone and still be labeled as racist, while everywhere else can be exclusionary and it's excused as culture
But selling the country itself as super open is lead to people thinking that.
Some people dont just expect korea be super open to them if it werent because they had been told that.
when did korea explicitly say we are super open to foreigners? i feel korea and korean society is unfairly looked at with much scrutiny
My fave part of these videos is when you say "shockest". Maybe I'm weird but that's my kind of vocabulary that I can relate to.
Glad I wasn't the only one 😂❤
He is respectfull and intelligent 🧠
Yeah! This is about the western tourists in general they want everywhere they go to be like home. Most of south asia is tea drinking. Dont expect to get coffee everywhere. And if you still want coffee find places and spend money to get good coffee.
Bro neon signed his privilege whilst complaining about privilege.
Yes, United States is accommodating when it comes to businesses, but not on daily life. Most native Americans speak only English.
It is unrealistic to go to a foreign country not knowing at least the basics and expecting others to accommodate you with English, especially when living there.
Korea should stop letting sex offenders off the hook
Americans are really accommodating.. they have a free spirit
The friend who was taliing was a black muslim from Nigeria.
Him, a blond white: is accomodating friendly enough ugh...
Even worse in the UK,
I totally agree with this dude and as someone who lived in Japan before I actually miss all the nerdy otaku foreigners. At least they actually liked Japanese culture. All the foreigners I meet here in Korea seem to be so superficial, in it for the tail and kpop, never set foot in a traditional market and wrinkle up their nose at the idea of Korean traditional food. It’s depressing.
Well said man
no and korea IS friendly, we've had so many kind encounters and not even one where we thought "wow, that was unfriendly", they might not be as open but rather reserved, nothing about that is unfriendly though
This should also be true for people coming to america
Thanks, man!! That's my word!! Why do you expect a nation to change so you can feel better?!! If you can't adapt, the world is big enough ~ explore!! There is a better place for you for sure
I mean, it's true, and it goes both ways. I mean, if they want to refuse foreigners enter some of their establishments thats their right, but they should accept and be ok when they're rejected as foreigners in another country as well and not complain about it.
“Most shocking” ❌
“Shockest” ✅
That is also my experience! These damn American (I am from there too, but I am Jamaican). I went on a tour with a group of retired veterans, and ALL the wife did was complain and complain. They only ate American food, and then complain more. I had to distance myself. I'm visiting your country. If you don't want to talk to me, don't. But I going to enjoy my experience. So far, everyone has been awesome and my experiences have been good.
Yeah, in the US the goverment will interpert many languages as well as some major corportations.
Exactly.
I love this soooo much. Cause its soooo true. Like stop! Thats not your home. Dont like it, leave!
Have you been to Forsyth County in Georgia???... America accommodating?
NO SUCH WORD AS "SHOCKEST!"
Yeah. Maybe he made that mistake because english wasn't his first language.👍
That's usually where my mentality is. They speak Korean? I should learn Korean to understand them, they don't have to speak English just because I do.
I think if they're trying to break into the western market, they should write in English.
I'm not from an English speaking country though.
That's true.. "americans" think that everyone in the world has to speak english .
No, I do not.
I don't either.
Dude, you are the first American(if you are😂) who said the truth! World is not spinning around some country and every country has it’s own culture.
how are they complaining that koreans don't speak proper english when its literally korea
AMÉRICA IS VERY ACCOMMODATING? LOL
Not the girl behind standing there like a child waiting for his father to finish so that she can go and buy candy 😂😂
Basically, The World dgaf and I love that 😂
❤❤❤smart young man.
I think he may want to phrase it differently as he comes across the same as his mates. Condescending.
Im in croatia and literally they got mad at me for asking for a tax refund with my passport??? After i paid more than 100 euros? Idk about kindness but Korea is more than accomodating when it comes to tax refunds for sure looool
More people should adopt his way of thinking. A sense of entitlement is often the root of conflict within the human race.
Right ✅
There's a difference between accommodation in being judgemental races.
👏👏👏😅he is right😊
That shorty was taking note 😅😅😅😅
Yet everyone goes to western countries and expects them to bow to their culture and beliefs.
Finally a 외국인 who says something that makes sense 👍🏻
Okay but privilege is not the word is entitled
adding a fake progress bar at the bottom is crazy
When I lived in Germany for two years. I know this is their home , respect their rules.
Shockest thing - most shocking thing... in another interview, the interviewee made this subtle correction but the host didn't notice 😮😅
If you cater to tourists speak English as it is the most widely spoken language. But if you to non touristy areas, then learn the language!
Tourists tend to forget you're a TEMPORARY GUEST in a foreigner country, if anyone should accomodate to anything, it's the tourist to their culture and ways.
Finally!!! Someone said it. Thank you 🙌
How is America accommodating??? I can't even speak Spanish with my parents outside without some racist weirdos screaming at us: "DIS IS OMERIKAAAAAA!!!" bro, we were here before you. That's why almost every town mountain, river, etc, is named in Spanish. You were the ones who came uninvited. Just get over it already.
Sergeant shockest❤😂
Couple clothes with a starry eyed girlfriend 😍🤩😍🤩
America is accommodating????
Yes, we have laws that accommodate foreigners and immigrants. We have signs and things in more languages than just English. You get benefits here, being an illegal immigrant. I feel like people just need an excuse to hate on America.
@@xxarianahiltonxx5116yes I didn’t know the amount of hatred others had for Americans until recently. I think it’s jealousy.
Some countries not all. It’s a difference in culture, the way they do things here and there are not the same.
yeah.. that’s true.
Lol girl kept looking around as if to say..can we go now…please 😊
The shocking thing for me is... "shokest". 😳😳😳
Canada needs this mentality
Here we have the token foreigner 👏👏👏.
Yes, Americans are accommodating. If you don't speak English they gonna try to speak your language
The girl in the back be like "I wonder what im gonna have 4 dinner"
