Nice video, and I'm glad to see Pentaquark getting a reprint, because it's my favorite Button Shy game. One thing to note though. At around 28:55, you have one quark and two annihilates in the beam and no free quarks in the background or detector, so you annihilated the one quark in the beam. IIRC, that's an advanced rule, and in the standard/basic version, if the situation you had shows up, you do not have to annihilate within the beam, you can just discard the annihilate card instead.
Yes, the playmat is pretty cool. Unfortunately, Button Shy playmats are pretty hard to come by as they are never produced in very high numbers 🙁 And often cost more that the games themselves! The most likely place to find one would be via the Button Shy Discord server that is super active and full of amazing Button Shy fans. But I suspect it could be hard to prise a Pentaquark mat away from it’s owner! 😅 discord.gg/zGxSD9MB8X
@@mediateachermike277 Like I said, Button Shy playmats are hard to get on the secondhand market, as they are almost made to order. BGG is another place to look, but you will be super lucky to find something instantly. I know people in the Button Shy community who kept looking for their “grail” for over three years before actually finding it. Perseverance is the key. Good luck! 🤞👍
Thank you for the video, I was waiting for something like this a while, because out of my approx. 25-30 games I have played never suceeded to win. I wondered if I have missunderstood some rules. Or is it a game that is almost impossible to win? The designer posted a tutorial video there he won. I would really like to see another video there someone else than the designer wins. That would give my faith back... :-D
Hey thanks for watching 😀👍 Honestly my win percentage for Pentaquark is probably around the 40% mark. The warm up/practice game I did just before this video I won on my second time through the deck, so a lot can be on the shuffle. One key tip I would give, which I didn’t give in the video is to maybe think of the win condition as: an Up, Down and Anti-Charm all need to be the same colour and the remaining Up and Charm need to be the other two colours. Let me know how it goes 👍😀 Matt.
@@MattUpton Your video inspired me to keep on trying to win. Yesterday I could create a pentaquark! For the first time! The key factor was, as I see now, what you did in you recorded game: to colour confine as many cards as possible in the detector. Mostly upps, downs and charms. It could also help that I created a player aid to visualize all the possible winning conditions: 6 pentaquarks categorized according to colours and flavors. I will uppload it to the BGG website.
therainmaiker Brilliant! I’m glad you won, well done! 😀👍 Thank you for letting me know, I do my videos for the love of the games and the hobby, so it’s really encouraging to hear when they have helped or inspired someone, so thanks again 🙏 Another really nice 18 cards only solo Button Shy game is SpaceShipped. I haven’t done a video of it (yet) but the designer created a video, which you might want to check out. m.ruclips.net/video/j7vKshjesp8/видео.html I love Button Shy, I love supporting the “little guy”, and the quality of their games is always so high, for me it doesn’t feel like much of a risk to get one of their games. Anyway, thanks again for keeping me updated! Welcome to the “Pentaquark winners club”! 😉

Thank you for the video! I couldn't make any sense from the rulebook. Any thoughts of an update video with the add-ons to the game?
The mat is so cool! How do I find one?!

26:40 the rules simply say skip if the collider phase can't be completed. Am i missing something?
Anyone have an answer to this?
