  • Davy Mooney considers Tom Jobim's "Chega de Saudade." It's a long-form song, really two tunes in one, and Mooney discusses versions from Joao Gilberto, Joe Henderson, and Tom Jobim himself.

I love this tune, and I'll say that Gilberto's original is still my favorite version. The singing. Lordy.

Oh, thank you, I'm all subbed up. All these videos by Davy (not sure if you're him) are golden for serious jazz guitar. Brilliant stuff, extremely valuable.

It was at a Jon Hendricks date, a hornless vocalese front line, where Hank Jones introduced me to Philly Joe Jones. It was at the Blue Note, upstairs in the lounge area. Same room where, another time, the elder Mr Pastorius told me that Jaco "wasn't nothin' but a little splerm" -- in reply to my admiring remark about his boy. Obviously it stuck with me.

One of my favorite bossa nova standards, I especially like Lalo Schifrinn’s piano solo on Dizzie Gillespie’s version!!
