      You can still eat rice. There's no need to be a perfectionist. Just avoid rice grown in the American south and don't eat rice meals daily and you're fine. If anything the results showed no strong indication of increased risk despite the high levels of arsenic.

      If you really want animal protein , why cant you go for Omega3 fish or low fat chicken/turkey sans the fatty skin and marrow ? It doesn't have to be grass fed anything . Mammalian protein ( including Milk protein) is much more pro inflammatory than all other kinds of animal protein , even if FAT content is same. The lean animal protein will still supply a generous amount of D3/B12 , taurine, carnosine while not as bad as Mammal protein and mammalian blood sugars (Alpha 1,3 Gal) .

      Worth every penny...for sure....but 3 years since your comment (with unemployment & amid a pandemic), it would be great if they were less expensive. Too bad Walmart stopped price-matching last year. I actually used to price-match them all the time, so instead of paying (the usual) $1.50 to $2.50 per avocado, I used to get them for .50 cents/each for many years. 🥑 Be well. Stay safe. 😷

    Outstanding benefit in these studies for people concerned about avoiding esophageal and colon cancers, and a round of applause for not only the avocado but cranberry, as well. At 3:24, an amazing fluorescence study of oral cancer cells shows how thoroughly avocado eliminates cancer cells, which ought to interest current or former users of tobacco products. .
    * BTW, at 00:44, what happened to the pet bird given "part of an avocado" before showing symptoms? How can a bird GI be de-toxified? This information could be helpful to pet bird owners with an unfortunate tendency to share human food with the wrong animal-- which happens too often with dogs and cats, as well.

    I guess for Esselstyn, restricting avocados makes sense for people who have done too much damage to their arteries? Wow, not being able to eat nuts, seeds, and avocados?! It truly is great to be a young healthy person, but it does show us we have to be responsible with are bodies if we wish to enjoy these little morsels from on a regular basis.

    • @A_A828
      @A_A828 6 лет назад

      Good point, I've wondered about this as well. Could Esselstyn and McDougall be wrongfully disregarding nuts, seeds and avocados, or is there really a benefit to avoiding those? It seems all research points towards them lowering cholesterol and whatnot, so it's hard to imagine them being harmful, aside from possibly contributing to weight gain if you don't burn enough calories.

    • @GeneGerwin

    Dr. Gregor made me laugh at 6:20 "We'll find out......right now!" I was expecting the usual teaser leading to my having to find the follow-up video. Great news on the avocado; I think most of us are relieved to find it IS part of a healthy diet.

    Hey Dr. Greger,
    Looking forward to your cookbook, which I've preordered already. I appreciate this video, but I have a request for a future video. Can you do some research on Black Seed Oil, Black Cumin, when you get some time. I found a lot of beneficial advice, claims and product plugging, but no studies or evidence linking such extracts to health benefits. Hope you're well, and as always we all appreciate what you do.

    Dr. Greger, first, thank you for all your work and the knowledge you spread with us. I've been a devoted follower for years and immensely appreciate everything you do. I was diagnosed with high cholesterol (and pre-diabetic) nearly 2 years ago (currently 36 y/o) and been on a mission to change my faith and get off statins, as I'd hate to be on pills. High Cholesterol and Diabetes runs in my family. I was asked to post under one of your videos, maybe you can offer some advise. from Aug-Oct 2017 I was on a strict plant based diet (super super clean, nutrition + healthy and loving it) but to my surprise my cholesterol #'s were back to my very initial blood test when I was first diagnosed. My trig # is the biggest surprise as it shot up higher than before. Part of me thinks maybe the statins changed my body chemistry in some ways that I'm now prone to having these elevated numbers even if I keep the healthiest food regiments. I'm now back on statins + continuing to eat whole plant based foods. Am I cursed with the need to take statins forever, or is there hope? Would LOVE to hear your thoughts. The numbers to all my lab tests can be found here: prntscr.com/h1688t

      Maybe you should say what exactly you're eating/doing instead of just saying "super super clean"? Also, he doesn't answer questions on RUclips, try posting it on his website, ask him during one of his Q&A sessions, or simply write him a mail.

    In the 1970s I was living in a house with an awesome avocado tree- but was told to not eat them because of the fat they contained. I let them rot on the ground. Wish I had them now!

    The study on avocado eaters in Jamaica could simply show that even though the fruit does not promote cancer cell development, its cancer "killing" character might be due to displacement of other more damaging foodstuffs.
