For those that aren’t super steeped in Grunts rulings, grunts only activate prior to their parent, so if they arrive during the parent’s activation, they don’t go. And then if at the start of your turn, all non-grunts are activated but the grunts aren’t, the grunts gain an activated token. But overall, I agree the sculpt is fantastic. He does seem generically good, and I think he really fits the purpose of a grunts character that will be easy for a new player to understand. He just seems a little simpler to manage grunts activations than the other ones since you don’t have to worry about objectives, which seems more new-player friendly to me
I enjoyed playing him in Winter Guard. Just like the Hydra Grunts, fresh drones can un-Stagger with the leadership. And there are some other fun synergies. Dynamo beams can blow up 1 health drones; Sovereign Strike is timed perfectly so that the damage can blow up the drone, followed by the terrain being destroyed, causing the drone to be put right back into play. That trick can result in a healthy chunk of damage AND a nice action-free reposition for the grunts.
So that order works with them already being on the table? Sovereign Strike to blow them up to cause the damage then respawn them from Ultron’s card? Edited: I looked it up and the order wouldn’t work with sovereign strike. They can’t be on the table when sovereign strike is used in order for it to respawn them.
@@BlerdBroadcast Yup, exactly! They can die to the damage from Sov Strike (causing them to deal damage), then immediately get put back on the map when Sov Strike destroys the terrain.
I mean, you're right. This is a "generic good stuff" type of build. I think he is a great inclusion in the starter, and he will find a home in many tankier "bad guy" attrition teams.
I've had a lot of fun with new Ultron, using his finisher with the drones nearby (within 2), you can throw your enemy into the drones to proc their explode then push the enemy back for 3 guaranteed damage (Throw, Explode, Push damage) presuming the drones die from the throw or the push. then just throw a piece of terrain to resummon them. This is fairly easy to set up too using the Beam move if needed or just bringing more people within 2 to deal damage too, ive gotten around 6 Flat damage in one finisher from Explode/Push not including the attack itself. You can set it up pretty early too with his card feeding him power or just doing more flat damage at worst. He can really put out a lot of damage in one turn over his combos if set up nicely, Great for maps down the middle.
@@jasonsiegel3869 Ultrons finisher has Explosive Force on a Wild trigger, this pushes all Characters within 2 of himself away S, Any character pushed in this way is dealt 1 damage.
I am a big fan of the Ultron, I tried to use base Ultron and base Red skull a lot, now I have an even better Red skull and an even better Ultron, the control in the move short is lovely and gives you the option of just moving stuff out of the way to cap a point or secure something or simply just walk a model directly away to "stagger" it, looks pretty good to me :D
New Killmonger Usurper leadership, herbs unused trigger damage on the holder after activation tokens are removed, a unique possibility to daze someone before the following round, but also for the duration
Yeah he is interesting. I think the grunts are definitely going to have to be used more as opportunistic attackers or stay near ultron to really be a threat. I like his kit overall, i could see him finding a home in Malekith's Cabal.
I truly believe his grunts are the epitome of the "sacrificial pawn".. Deal with me, and I'm gonna hurt ya, ignore me and I'm gonna hurt ya more" Hope that makes sense..
@@jasonsiegel3869 That makes sense for sure. I honestly think the way their kit works they will be less likely to be attacked by your opponent than other grunts. That being said like other grunts you can set up a situation that asks a tough question to your opponent and forces them to attack them.
The character is great. Boring at surface, but on a closer look very exciting. Same as with new Spider Man, and for me, the top 3 character in the new core alongside Peter and Tony. Seems to work well with Magneto. Age of Ultron is backbreaking and Glory of Ultron looks plain fun.. their only issue is the opportunity cost of TTCs. But Glory for example; Throw terrain, spawn drones in middle of enemies, play Glory. Probably niche, but great when it works. Also it's cool that you noted 20 dice worth of Energy attacks per turn. It is pretty good - almost unmatched to be honest. Awkward comparison because of dice fixing, pierce and stronger attacks, but Malekith for example has only 14 dice worth of Energy attacks per turn from only range 2 :)
I really like that he's kind of generically good and doesn't have some niche. I never see Ultron played and I hope that this guy gets some love. Might even try him in my Spider Foes "destroy all terrain" team. As I've committed to not get into mutants, this guy is my alternate to Magneto I guess.
5 points is hard to fit. I really want him with Magneto but that's already 11 points. He'll be a boss in corebox games, I just don't know where he fits outside of that. Maybe with Kingpin to be a potato on a point, but is he better than Ulik at 5. I'm excited for just straight corebox games, the OG box was so fun to play just by itself I think this one will be even better.

I love when people ignore my grunts. The amount of times my 4 dice spike while using grunts is crazy.

This is such a great idea! I'm loving playing WG now and will definitely be trying this this week!
I didn’t think about the sovereign strike synergy that seems real good. And one of the things WG struggles with is damage.

Pushing causes damage..?
I thought only throwing caused damage..
I haven't plaid in a hot minute..

I think we are referring to the trigger that pushes and does 1 damage.

Another thing about the explosion being a reactive power is that it can be "no more mutants" target and it cant be used if mystique takes them out
I didn’t even think of that. I like the idea of mystique disguising herself as a robot so the other robots don’t think to self destruct 😅
Ultron and captain marvel are the two I wanted to see the most

He feels like a tankier MODOK better mobility and grunts minus the Pea brain reroll and a shorter throw. EDIT: you ended up saying that.
