- In this Tech Help, we will be reviewing the Mazda Connect 2018 system, which is in its newest version. The vehicles shown are the 2018 Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-9, however, this system can be found in most new Mazda products. We will be looking at the app suite, Navigation, Mazda Connected Services, traffic and weather services (talking about the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto possibility) and much more!

Great info thanks. All mazda dealers should play this video to all customers who purchase a car from them as it is very helpful and will answer many first time questions. Or better yet text the link to their phone.

I am a little disapointed in the lack of sound options. Bass and treble only? I have a something like a 9 speaker system too and I cant target which speakers I want to turn up or down, just left right and front back. I would have liked some really really detailed options maybe in a super menu.
If the XFM is grayed out...can I connect the Sirius Connect tuner/antenna into the back the the radio unit? Ok thanks (2018 Mazda CX 5)

I have Mazda 6 and even without Apple CarPlay the USB connection with Apple iOS phones works pretty well. However, I just switched to an Android phone (Pixel 2XL) and that convenience is no longer there. Pixel is charging when connected with USB, but unable to play and control the content (Play Music, Spotify, Podcasts, etc.) on the Mazda Connect console. What am I missing?
You may need Android Auto? It's a $400/$200/$0 option based on whether you do dealer-installed/self-installed/hacked-in.

2016 Mazda 6 Touring, I tried to update my maps, but the Toolbox says it is up to date, even though it is 2013 version. Do I need to upgrade my 51.00.351 OS upgrade first?
Bro i need some help, I changed my car’s battery and then my head unit wont turn on. I still can hear radio in the back ground, sometimes it came up with mazda logo but thats the far it can goes.. any idea what is wrong with my car?
You may want to visit the dealership or unplug battery again to see if you can reset it

This is a great video. Just purchased a 2020 cx9 grand touring and The dealer never never fully showed some of these features. It has Apple car play which I may primarily use over the Mazda navigation which I can’t get the hang of yet, lol

Based on your pic and your comment, I'm going to say the problem may be you... That aside, you can have the dealer install AA/CP for $400 or install it yourself for ~$200 if you are handy.

I wanted to know how to add a pre-set station to the radio. This did not address that.

I have this system with nav in my 3. I love it overall. But in 2018, they need to addCarplay/ Android it’s offered on most of the competition, and may be a deL breaker for some, regardless of how good the rest of the car is. Aside from that, i wish they’d get rid of the redundancy. After voicing the “ call Mason” command, just freaking call Mason. Stop asking “ are you sure?”
they're adding it this summer
android auto/apple carplay is a deal breaker. they were suppose to start rollout in June but hasn't happened yet. people who want that feature aren't gonna buy it on a premise that it will be added later on specially when competition has been offering that for more than a year now.

How do I connect a library book on my tablet to my 2018 Mazda CX5 so I can listen while I drive. The listening software is called "Overdrive."
You should just be able to connect via Bluetooth then open to the app and play it

Looks to me like this system is also in the Toyota Yaris iA, built by Mazda, which I think is almost the same as a Mazda 2 (not sold in USA as such), & similar to the Mazda CX 3. So I am hoping that if Mazda sells a retrofit upgraded firmware that allows CarPlay iPhone mirroring, that will work in my Yaris iA
As of Nov, 2019 All Mazda's have Apple car play/android auto.
@Writer B.L. Alley When I bought my 2018 GT it came standard. I think Mazda is forcing dealers to install it to keep sales

I would like to display the trip meter on my Mazda CX5. At the moment is shows the distance to empty. Can someone please help me? I have tried reading through the manual and have not been successful. Any help/video tutorial would be much appreciated.

At 18500 miles the GPS stopped working. I asked if there was a recall and was informed that there wasn't. You would think that on the cx9 there would be some kind of customer satisfaction. THERE ISNT.
There it is, and this seems to be a Mazda problem altogether, so beware.

so i am loving my CX-5 so far, but am just lost in one point on the connect system: I can connect my apple device to the USB port and my problem is that there seems to be no "search" function for the songs/artists (or at least a way to quickly move between starting letters, like i had on my old pioneer radio).
Do I really have to scroll through a few thousand songs (slowly) if i want to listen to an artist or a song that starts with "Z" on my iphone/ipod?
cdh79 Just click control knob right and turn through alphabet, select appropriate letter ( to "z") - , then scroll to listing.
HD Traffic Alert is no longer operable. According to Mazda Headquarters in California, it will not return. As I own a 2018 CX-5 GT, very disappointed in this. Otherwise, the system is sufficient, but lacking live traffic alerts is a big minus, at least to me.
How to set up android to auto cx5
Is there an easy way to change/upgrade the version running on Connect. I currently have 59.00.202 and would like to go to 59.00.204 or possibly a v60+
Well, if you want to take advantage of the hacks out there (e.g. to install Android Auto and other apps for free), you should definitely install a back door while you're on a version less than 59.00.502 (lucky for you). Otherwise, if you want to install those hacks later, you'll need to rip apart your dash.

When I had a blackberry it showed and read emails. Now I have iPhone and only shows text.

I have a 2016 CX-5 and find the Infotainment system to require much to many clicks \ dial turns, to get what I want. Also, this system requires taking my eyes off the road to make menu changes - VERY DANGEROUS!. More mechanical buttons and knobs are needed to simplify controlling the infotainment system, and make this more safe to use. Screen is also small
I think it is much the same as in the Yaris iA, which has alt buttons on steering wheel and a microphone to do some voice only commands, which require less use of screen.
The Mazda also has voice commands... it is extremely easy to use

I will be the first to state the obvious... why doesn't Mazda have Android Auto/Apple Car Play? If you believe that this head unit will be updated to include this in the future I have a bridge to sell you.

I have both AA and ACP in my CR-V and to be honest I used them both a couple times. Its highly over rated. You don't need if you have built in navigation. Are you saying they are going to update existing units or its coming in new cars?
existing units will have an upgrade of hardware via USB 3.0.. coming in fall. Mazda sales rep

The infotainment system is why i didn't end up buying the Mazda 6. Love the car but the infotainment system looks outdated. With my current car, if i'm listening to an audio source, not only do i see the current station/artist/song info, but i also see all 6 of my presets. On the very top of the same audio display, i see which road i'm on as well as the direction i'm driving. In addition to all of that info, there is time of day and some options on display at the bottom and physical buttons around the screen to navigate other options. I know they have a few buttons conveniently located near the shifter but that's like having your mouse on your lap and the keyboard up on the desk - too much seperation between the physical buttons and the screen. I'm not a fan of the vertical scrolling either. I'm sure you could get used to it but it doesn't take advantage of the newer wider screen like a horizontal display would.
Hopefully, they make changes in the future as i really love the styling, handling and acceleration of the car
name calling is unnecessary. Technology aside, you cannot beat the drive of the Mazda. Their 3D voice command nav is beyond easy to use, It alerts to red light speed camera. You cannot take a curve in a Mazda and not smile! :)

Damn, this infotainment system is turning me off of a 2018 Mazda 6. Just seems so outdated and clunky.
Just adding apple/android doesn't resolve how outdated and clunky the system is. They need an overhaul
What exactly do you see as clunky? Its very simple to operate. And how often do you change "radio" stations? 87 dials and buttons are faster if you're familiar with it, and don't mind sitting close to the dash and having to reach and look off the road to do it. With this system you can control it completely while sitting back and keeping your eyes on the road. Its shockingly more comfortable and natural to use, while perhaps slightly slower then having a dedicated do this or that button(s). Either way its stupid to not consider a car because the radio bothers you a little. lol. You should be paying attention to the road, or at least your phone. Who sits there and stares at the radio screen getting pissed about the interface while driving down the freeway? Drive the competition first, then take 6 for spin. Then tell me you'd rather dive what, an Accord, cause you like the radio more? LOL.
You want to see real crap..try a Mercedes unit..Infiniti, BMW,, much worse than this..This one is extremely obvious.
The infotainment in 2019 Mazda3 is completely overhauled from the videos I've seen. (Different software and screen.)

The satnav on my 2019 UK spec CX5 is so basic that its actually embarrassing. The graphics are poor and route direction is woeful. Terrible, just terrible, a £70 off the shelf plug in gives a better road layout and clearer more up to date maps. Mazda, you should be ashamed of yourselves for putting such rubbish in your cars.
