    Outstanding! When you solicited comments on this upcoming test, I suggested that you make sure that you design the test so that the dust is suspended in air as it is drawn into the filter, the way it would be in an actual car. All the other tests I have seen on YT have just dropped the contaminants onto the filter surface, which is not at all representative of the challenges a filter will have to overcome in an actual vehicle. I am not sure if my suggestion played a role in your decision to do the test as you did, but either way, you did a fantastic job!

    I would love to see you test the AEM Dryflow versus the old performance standby, the K&N.
    The K&N has long been the standard for anyone looking to upgrade, but the tests (with the flawed "drop the dirt on the filter" methodology) that have been published thus far (Project Farm and others) have shown it to not be so good. This is why I do not have a K&N in my beloved Mustangs. I have instead gone for the AEM Dryflow, a cleanable lifetime filter that does not need oiling, and that is supposed to filter much better than the K&N. I would love to know how it stacks up in your superior test method.
    Also, since the K&N and Dryflow are washable, I would also like to know how well they filter after repeated cleanings. Does the filtering ability decline as the cleaning process removes fibers (something that has been rumored with the K&N)?
    Incidentally, I believe AEM is owned by K&N, which makes it rather interesting. If I were AEM, I would be marketing my product as having much better protection than K&N while still producing great airflow... but they would not want to harm the sales of their best selling K&N brand!

      To me the way project farm did it, just dropping the dirt onto the filter directly, invalidates the test. that's not how air filters work and k&n was not designed to work that way either! I'm excited to see these guys test it correctly!

    • @JamessLuner-wi2qs
      @JamessLuner-wi2qs 6 часов назад

      I've bought 3 or 4 AEM dryflow cones in the past 2-3 months and their quality control is horrible. Creases and scratches along the filter media and loose rubber on the inside. I used a dryflow on my car the past 1000 or so miles and there is build up of fine dust on the rubber couplers. It's very fine almost like a powder, but I've never seen this with the OEM paper filter.
      I'm wondering if AEMs quality and filtering abilities have gone downhill since k&n bought them out. My girlfriend has an AFE pro dry s on her intake and when you hold it up to the light next to the AEM dryflow the AFE is noticeably more dense and there are no tiny pinholes in the media like with the dryflow. It seems to be a challenge to find a washable filter that filters as good as the OEM paper filters

    For filtering performance, you really need a pulsing pressure/flow mimicking the actual air flow in an intake. There's some good info on why K&N cotton filters work better in practice than on static filtering tests due to this phenomenon. It would be interesting to see the filtering results under such conditions. If you plan to add premium filters to the test, then please look into how to mimic those characteristics.

    Nice work on the test rig and specialized dust. I'm not buying the Dyno results though. Engine is an air pump so HP should follow air flow results. Most likely a Dyno consistency issue with oil, coolant, and air temps impacting the results and not the filter.

      Checkout project farm’s test on air filter he basically ran the same test with K&N part of the test. Basically K&N won the air flow test performance/acceleration but the worst protecting your Engine. What you want is balance and that’s what Wix won Project Farm’s test.

    I have an idea you can try out, it shall be interesting and easy to test, you can test spark plugs, check resistance, and start too increase the gap and see what happens, put the spark plug in a compressed container and increase the pressure from 150 psi to 300 psi and check what happens, be careful anything above 80 psi it shall be very well build and remember to test the vessel to 1.5 times your maximum test press.

    I'd guess that 10hp is probably the margin of error, so I wouldn't base any purchase on your dyno runs. After looking at your results, I'd probably just buy the filter with the best build quality and filtering.

  • @WSKRBSCT
    @WSKRBSCT 2 дня назад +1

    Your summarizing statement that "the better the filtering performance the worse it did in the engine performance test" is incorrect. The WIX was tops in filtering by quite a bit and was not appreciably behind (0.42 hp) the top-performance Fram. Using your logic, it should've been DFL. That's not my data, that's yours. If the actual dyno has a problem differentiating the two, your butt-dyno sure as hell won't.

      Project Farm ran the same test with K&N. K&N did very well in air flow the best on project farm’s test but the worst protecting your engine. Basically he said there is trade off between air flow and protection. What you want is balanced and thats were Wix won the project farm’s test.

    I appreciate the effort you put into all of this, but I do have to point out that your inclusion of a chassis dyno was problematic (and likely done for clicks more than for science). Importantly, your results fall within a margin of error. When dealing with a chassis dyno you have to take into account air temperature, engine temperature, humidity, drivetrain temperature and tire temperature/pressure. Even after all of that there's the equipment itself and its inherent margin of error. In summary, 2-3hp isn't really meaningful here. More importantly, peak hp isn't as valuable as total hp under a curve, as we don't drive around at redline with the throttle pinned.
    Again, appreciate the effort, but unless you can demonstrate you've controlled variables and your gain is outside the margin of error then chassis dyno tests aren't really meaningful.
    On the plus side I thought the capacity test was meaningful and controlled. Ideally, you would take into account how moisture and water can impact certain paper elements once exposed, but I suspect you were already exhausted by the dry testing.
    Suggestion- make the video a bit longer and explain some of your results a bit more throughly, as well as the reason for choosing a certain methodology. Your market for these types of videos isn't the general public anyway- too fringe of a topic.
