I do the opposite, I thicken the acrylic with heavy structure gel then it doesn’t seep under the masking tape and you get a lovely crisp line. I’ll have to give this method a try.
Good stuff! That liquid medium seal for the masking tape is a brilliant idea. Some other teachers recommend removing the mask before the paint has dried. Do you do that?
What a great question! I find sometimes that it can leave a bit of a ridge when you use the liquid medium but I generally leave it on until it dries. I suppose that if it gets too dry it may make it harder to get the tape off cleanly. Something to explore further!
Yeah, bleed through is always a risk. I try to always paint away from the tape to minimize the possibility of bleeding. Its fun to collect 'arty' shirts and I'm grateful I get to wear them in the videos!
There would’ve been a white line left as thick as the tape. The two colors would go as far as the border of the tape and then stop. When you remove the tape, you’d be left with a blue stripe. Granted, you could paint the entire surface one of your colors, and then only do the tape curve one time, but that would be layering colors and might not be what you want.
@@ThailandTerry Thanks for a heads up on this! Are you referring to the pages on the Spectivastudios.com website? There was an issue yesterday but it should now be corrected.
From the start it look perfect, the taping is perfect but the step by step of your pairing is wrong. Why glueing the with white? First the you should is painting the blue first and when want to paint the black you glue your with the same blue leave it dry and paint the black, just like that you have a perfect line. (Next don’t paint dark colour before bright colour)
Thin blue striping tape is sold at automotive paint suppliers so you don't need to slice wider tape.
Excellent info! Good to know about!
I get my 3M at Advance Auto
It's expensive for how little you get.
You're right it is expensive
The perfect tip I was looking for since I want to put a crescent moon into my painting! You're a great teacher!
So kind of you to share! I'm glad I was able to share some insights with you!
This tip came in super handy for me today. Thanks!
I'm so glad to hear that!
Isn’t there specific tape that stretches better for curves?
I have heard of people using 'car detailing' tape in instances like this. I haven't tried it yet
Thanks for the video - been looking for techniques like this. You deserve a bigger following. Awesome shirt also
So glad it was helpful!
I may feel really stupid after watching, but it does convey everything i need perfectly and easily understandable, thanks for the tip :)
Nothing to ever feel stupid about! Plenty of things we're allowed not to know. Now that you know it, all better!
Thanks for the lesson. Love your shirt.
Thank you! I've been acquiring a collection!

Ohh! I'll have to give your approach a try! I tend to work with thinner paint but I'm open to new things!
I’d love your technique. Will try to use it tomorrow on my checkerboard one. Thanks so much!!
Great video. I am so glad I found your channel. ❤❤❤. I guess you need to let paint dry before removing masking tape?
I cannot believe this is the first comment. Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for your kind words!

Useful tip. Sometimes I get bleed-through under the tape; I'll cut out paper shapes from bristol board if I have to! Love your shirt, BTW! I want one.

Really helpful. Just subscribed. Thanks😂
Thank You for sharing. I am going to try this. I subscribed.
Thank you this helped me a lot!
I'm so glad to hear that!
Wondering why you didn’t leave the original tape and repeat on the other side

Thanks aot mate.😊
My pleasure! Thanks for watching
Best video on RUclips 🤣❤
Well, I guess I can retire now that I've made the best video on RUclips! 😉
I love that color picture to your left did you make that?
I did! You can find it and other pieces in my gallery at www.spectivastudios.com!
@@mixedmediamasters the gallery page is missing. Also there is a lot of duplication of content FYI.

@@mixedmediamasters Yes I was referring to the website. Glad you were able to correct it.
Thank-you! What is that cutting tool called?
It is a Fiskars brand rotary cutting tool!
Hi. Quilt makers and other fabric workers also use cutting wheels so you can buy them at sewing supplies shops.
I usually have 2 projects going at once so im not impatient while one is dying
I generally have so many projects going to. When I'm shooting a video that patience isn't so good!
Do you have experience of using this tape for making outlines of shapes or patterns you have already done ?
I do! And I have a few videos coming up that will explore this exact question!
Just use gesso, no need for a fancy acrylic product
Thanks for the tip! Keeping it simple with gesso sounds like a great idea.
Gesso would work in this instance but not if you’re going over other colors.

Perfect lines everytime... Except this time LOL
A lesson to be learned from rushing things!
not too good.
