30:48... amazing how instantly you spot geometry and then how quick you clean up once you get going... always mindblowing seeing a master at work
i did after a long while find the 157 triple in the right stack with geometry... but i did not see the geometry in the center band, where i spotted the 1579 quad after a long bit of staring at my copious pencil marks... not to mention how very slow i am in clean up... i dreamt once i could keep pace with the best of you, but maybe i should recognize that was only a dream
Comparing against others is never good for the soul. Just look for self improvement and most importantly, whether you're having fun!
Others, waiting for spotting key technique to break puzzle. Me, waiting for 3 to deet deet doot in corner 😅😅😂
The link you showed makes it better to organize. I'll start using that tomorrow for my daily sudoku. I couldn't stay focused on the NYtime website.
The 19 pair in block 4, and in my approach, the 1 in particular, was the key. But as usual, it took me OH! so long to spot it. Your videos are very much appreciated, and I'm slowly improving, but not to the point where I can crow about my times. Thanks, Mr. Rangsk.
Oh yeah me too!
26:14 i was stuck until placing that naked 1 in row 5. you didn't arrive there that same way but i was proud of myself for seeing it haha. after that it was cake
17:16 to solve.
Made a mistake and had to back track! Thanks for always sharing these puzzles Rangsk!
36:56. Like driving manual, I guess.

19:56 for me!
It took me a while, probably because I missed several things until late. I found an early finned X-wing in 7s, that did a little more than the usual accidental finned X-wing. In this case, once I placed 3 in R4C6, 7s were restricted to column 6 in block 2, column 5 in block 5. It probably didn't help, ultimately. (But I don't know.)
After centermarking the grid, I bifurcated (using cornermarks). I shortly noticed that 1 was restricted in row 5 to R5C8. I halted the bifurcation and that 1 collapsed the puzzle.
I think that a quad in row 6 and a triple in row 9 helped. If I'd placed the 3 in R4C6 earlier, the finned X-wing would also have been an empty rectangle -- something I used to call an extra-strength finned X-wing. Follow one procedure to attack one cell, then use a pointing pair to attack another.
2:20 I couldn't help noticing the 239 triple early.
10:10 The cell next to it also can't be 3 or 9. You get a 167 triple in row 9.
11:25 That cell was 569 thanks to the finned X-wing.
13:00 One can see now that R5C8 is 1. (I missed that for a long time.)
The final comment: the one overall issue that leaves me stuck is not noticing things. I've used swordfish to do the work of a pointing pair.
Does it help to know that the NYT puzzles never require anything other than: hidden/naked singles, hidden/naked pairs and triples, pointing, and claiming? Of course there's no reason not to use something like a finned x-wing or a swordfish if you happen to see it, but usually with these puzzles it's better to look for the basics rather than spending time hunting for a more advanced technique.
If you're having trouble noticing things, then there are two things I'd recommend thinking about:
1. Are you over-marking? Too many pencil marks can hide the needle in a larger haystack.
2. Are you paying too much attention to your marked cells and not enough to the givens / placed digits? Often focusing on the givens can help anchor what to look for.
💯
Couldn't find the hidden 268 in r6 so the puzzle was basically unsolvable 🥲
