Brava Teresa ..... you are such a wonderful Artist, the versatility of your voice is stunning. Mozart, Strauss, Puccini, Verdi and so many other Composers. One of the greatest Sopranos of the 20th Century Glad that I did collect everything available Studio and Live Thanks for hours of Joy
I have heard many singers singing this, but this simply takes my breath away, What tonal quality; as if sung by an angel from the heavens. Thank you so much for uploading this.
I've heard Fleming sing this and thought it was the most lovely until I heard this. This beautiful soprano has the most tranquil voice. It's hard to imagine this aria sang any better than this...
With all respect I have for Ms Teresa Zylis-Gara art the best Rusalka is (and probably will be for many many years) Gabriela Beňačková- Čápová. But I agree Ms Zylis-Gara is excellent in this role. Nevertheless, Ms Beňačková is even better....
Wow. Love her voice and diction, but don't know much about Czech language. I watched more than a dozen renditions of this beautiful song, and my favorite until this one was Anna Netrebko. Now I have to search for a CD by Teresa.
I love listening to Zylis-Gara's amazing voice, especially Rusalka's Song to the Moon. I now add her to my playlist of renditions bySubrtova (my favorite), Lucia Popp and Karita Mattila Rusalka's.
so appreciate all the wonderful remarks while listening to this voice floating, so beautifully unforced above a gorgeous orchestra. A tear in the heart.....can't help it.
Zylis-Gara had a very substantial career at the Metropolitan, New York, were she was highly admired in Mozart's music. She had a gorgeous, creamy voice and a fine musical sensibility. Too bad she made so few commercial recordings. She sings this a bit faster than I am used to, but with her usual lovely manner. A treasurable artist, without question.
The Oxford Opera Dictionary1979(abt.30yrs ago)said abt Teresa Zylis-Gara that she's a highly gifted & committed artist whose achie vements have sometimes been under-rated.That could be right.I discovered her too late, her voice is beautiful and powerful, regarding the power she reminds me of Anna Moffo(1932-2006) Teresa Zylis-Gara(1935)indeed needs more attention in the west. Her Rusalka is beautiful and impressive.Milada Subrtova's version is maybe the best, but she IS Czech! Thanks for posting
Thank-you very much to tremendous her soprano from effulgent Tokyo in profound Japan in winter . 🍎 My soul is in the grassland of vast content undulating in the wind of impression . Which national are you watching this video ?
Gracias Kaya por este magnifico regalo. En efecto la Rusalka que me ha impresionado mas es la checa Milada Subrtova ,pero esta otra cantante-totalmente desconocida para mi- no tiene nada que envidiarle en sentimiento y expresion.
Callas and similar vox, had an edge to their voice that at times would annoy- even Bjoerling at times, had that edge- not so with Gedda, Wunderlich, Zylis Gara or Von Stade .- this "dolce voce" and the sweet way she turns phrases pleading for her love to be found was alien to Callas- shrill as she was in almost everything she sang. Almost chicken like at times. Georghiu is a marvelous voice, well rounded, well used. As you say, Matter of taste ... and ear.
I read a wonderful description of Callas once that rang very true for me. It stated that she had brought the sound of hatred and fury to opera, and I agree. Her characterizations had such a capacity for earthiness and absolute non-female-victimhood when she was in repertoire that allowed those qualities to stand forth. I will switch back and forth to enjoying the more beautiful instruments and their art, and then to her again, and the flames of Mordor that she could summon.
In Poland her admirators are many, and we will always remember of Her. It's a shame anyway that nobody of those "great people", politicians, seems to remember that She is still with us...
I am immersed in impression while listening to her incomparable soprano . From Tokyo in the dizzying Megalopolis ablaze with neon Which national are you watching this video ?
Whenever I listen to her incomparable soprano , sadness surges up within me . I am mesmerized by her exquisite soprano From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵
Hysteric-dramatic. What an apt term for the impression Gheorghiu has left on me also. I find her singing brings me down instead of elevates me.It is rather like watching a ballerina with beautiful legs and arms, but stays on her flat feet. She is a beautiful violin, but not played with high refinement. Brava for your description.
I just am intoxicated with her splendid soprano , which penetrates into my mind , and I shed tears From Tokyo of the Land of the Rising Sun 🇯🇵 Which national are you seeing this video ?
Matter of taste, I suppose. For example, I generaly prefer sweet, but strong full lyric soprano, or lirico-spinto, than a hysteric-dramatic one... I prefer Mme Zylis-Gara then for example Angela Gheorghiu. Callas is Callas, I love her, there's no doubt. But generally, voices like this are my favourite ones.
So glad you brought up Von Stade's performance. It's treasurable. This aria has been lucky in the number of truly lovely performances that have been documented and preserved.
@@cashelnd Von Stades performance is magical, there's something about her voice which makes her performance forlorn and beyond sadness, a haunting timber to her voice. Thanks for your message.
I saw von Stade's Rusalka twice in SF. Her voice is stunning, but her US accent distracts. It is the same as if we, Czechs, sang English/US repertoire. You would complain about it till the cows went home.

Wunderschön!👍
Two weeks ago I was at workshops with Mrs. Żylis - Gara. I sang for her. She's really nice person. And her Rusalka is magnificent :)

Her beautiful singing voice is out of this world
The gorgeousness of her magnificent voice is unrivaled, and off the charts
So beautiful! Thank You.
Najpiękniejszy polski sopran.
Perfect.
Bravissima!
Why doesn’t need more Zylis-Gara in their lives? Just marvellous, don’t think I’ve ever heard it sung better.
Sheer perfection...a desert island, a clear night sky, an ocean breeze, my beloved, a bottle of fine wine, Zylis-Gara recordings...
Usually there is no bottled wine on desert islands not to mention opera.
Nobody had a more beautiful voice.
Absolutely stunning and heavenly. Her voice floats above the orchestration.
Excelente!!!!!!!

No wonder Franco Corelli loved singing with her!

CUDOWNIE ALE WOLE RENEE FLEMING
Na naši Gabrielu Beňačkovou rozhodně NEMÁ, je to plytké, špatně vyslovuje. Není ji dobře rozumět.
Intonaci zvládá,ale občas nestíhá takt.
So beautiful! :(:(:(
