Very insightful descriptions and narratives by Maj.Gen.Bakshi about requirements of Indian army and agniveer scheme. Many of deficiencies and flaws revealed of the cost cutting policy in our army and agniveer scheme. No cost is big enough to put our national security under threat. As Indian citizen, it's our national duty to oppose Modi government for this decision. We understand government's intention behind agniveer scheme. But it should not been done at the cost of regular army. Mr Bakhshi's suggestions to increase training period from six months to one year and serving period from four years to seven years for agniveers is also good enough. In fact, I suggest serving period of ten years. And after retirement, they should be given priority in recruitment in the forces involved in internal security, including police.

1. Pension of MP's should be sacked or at least cut down. I know opposition wont agree but that will save a lot of money.
2. Govt should make changes suggested by GD Bakshi Sir. Army officers are most important to us for God's sake. They should be the one with highest salaries. I still think that Modi ji wont do anything to harm our armed forces.
By cutting pensions of mps there would be not much saving.

Sir.our army officer's suggestions are logical and acceptable except that retention period of 75 ./.. it appears that 25 ./. cut may not save much os salaries billbut could save pension over head charges.this much experienced army officer is very practical to cover all aspects of this scheme. Very well explained sir. To be able to understand the problems with the Agnivir scheme better, we must first go into the History and investigate how large were the armies in the past.
Thank you for your logical analysis. Like Major Arya says Indian Army is the last argument of the state and weakening it cannot be afforded. Even SSC is an Agniveer kind of arrangement and we loose talent and leave our young officers out to fend for themselves. Soldiers should be allowed to do what they have to do and the country needs to have their back once they are done.

Agniveer scheme for officers- Short service commissioned officers is already in force. Work for 10 years and leave without any benefits. However never found any top brass of defence talking on SSCO .
Excellent insights. The officials in the PMO and several bureaucrats, who are supposed to be the think tanks of the government, seem to be out of touch with the ground realities. It appears that they lack any genuine concern for their nation and are irresponsibly placing it in grave danger.in formulating such an ill conceived policy of ‘Agniveer’

A simple pareto study will show that foot soldiers may be 70% of army strength , but their share in cost would be not more than 30%. The officers contribute much more to cost
Second, even a one term MP and MLA enjoy life long pensions n perks for all their antics in parliament , but the soldiers who put their life on line are seen as financial burden
This scheme is a sell out on national security needs by the BJP govt. It only proved the BJP govt's attitude of bullying wherever they can get away , be it a disciplined institution like army, or meek and harmless sanatanis asking for rights , dignity and protection ; and of course the unmistakable attitude of spinelessness when faced with street protests by goons be it with CAA, farm bills, land acquisition etc.
I hope our Honorable Prime Minister Modiji, hears this out and implements this for the betterment of our nation. Today we are here and tomorrow we are gone. At least secure this nation for our future generation. Very valid points made. It's simple. A rational person has to look out for his needs first. It is basic in Maslow's needs hierarchy model. If that is taken care of, then a person can focus on other things. If he does not have his and his family's financial needs sorted out, how will he focus on his tasks? His mind will be diverted and he will not give his best.
On the flip side, there are people who, deapite having been secured financially in all aspects will just not bother to give their best. However, taking blanket policy decisions to address such types of people end up hurting the genuinely hard working ones who does their best and future recruits with stringent measures.
There should be a balance. Problem is, people tend to go overboard and create more problems rather than solve existing ones.

Instead of decreasing the soldiers why govt is not increasing the defence budget from 9 persant to 15 persant .govt have a pension for the politician that become MLA or MP for 5 years and can give them double pension if he becomes minister in 2nd term .
In recent past it has been seen that veteran officers have become ultra active on some issues. The jawans and JCOs understand it an exercise to influence government only for their better OROP 3 pension increase.

Why defense minister did not refuse even in parliament to talk the mattknow lacks of Armed forces er is my doubt. Just refuse. Few times earlier defense minister did not allow even pm to talk.
