"Dark Blue" Lyrics:
I have (I have) you breathing down my neck (breathing down my neck)
I don't (don't know) what you could possibly expect under this condition so
I'll wait (I'll wait) for the ambulance to come (ambulance to come)
Pick us up off the floor
What did you possibly expect under this condition so
Slow down.. this night's a perfect shade of
Dark blue (dark blue)
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room when I'm here with you
I said the world could be burning down
Dark blue (dark blue)
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room well I'm here with you
I said the world could be burning 'til there's nothing but dark blue..
Just dark blue
This flood (this flood) is slowly rising up swallowing the ground
Beneath my feet, Tell me how anybody thinks under this condition so
I'll swim (I'll swim) as the water rises up, the sun is sinking down
And now all I can see are the planets in a row
Suggesting it's best that I slow down
This night's a perfect shade of
Dark blue (dark blue)
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room when I'm here with you
I said the world could be burning (burning) down
Dark blue (dark blue)
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room well I'm here with you
I said the world could be burning dark blue
We were boxing
We were boxing the stars
We were boxing (we were boxing)
You were swinging for Mars
And then the water reached the West Coast
And took the power lines (the power lines)
And it was me and you (this could last forever)
And the whole town under water
There was nothing we could do
It was dark blue
Dark blue (dark blue)
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room well I'm here with you
I said the world could be burning (burning) down
Dark blue
Have you ever been alone in a crowded room well I'm here with you
I said the room could be burning now there's nothing but dark blue
If you've ever been alone in the dark blue
If you've ever been alone you'll know (you'll know).
I just love how RUclips is the CLOSEST thing to an ACTUAL time machine!
My friend who I used to listen to this song with on repeat passed away in February 2024. I tattooed “well I’m here with you” on my leg. 💙
I’m sorry for your loss
Easily one of the best songs ever written. The whole album is a work of art.
hey old friend, it's been too long. I'm glad i came back to see you're still as bright as ever. if you're back here with me, look how far we've managed to come in such a beautiful way. for those just finding this, i hope you find the beauty in every note as we did when we fell in love too this.
Am 40 and haven’t listen to this song in over 10 years. Takes me back to a time when life was less complicated.
I started listening in 2008 and I feel like I relate to this music more now than ever before. Easily the most underrated band of my youth.
Everything In Transit is the best album ever written. It's that simple.
I havent listened to this in forever... I'm 23 now Its almost been 10 years. crazy how time flies. I have recently gotten back to my emo/scene kid music... it's amazing
same exact age. same exact years that I haven't listened to this
omg I'm 24. sameee!
Same everything
Never forget the good songs
35 years old. Jack's Mannequin was the soundtrack to a very...unique time in my life during college with a girl I shared a very fun year with. No idea where she's at or what she's doing, but I'm sure whatever it is, she's having fun.
I'm 28 and this band makes me feel like I'm a child again sitting with my older brother loving every second of this album. Thanks bro for showing me beautiful music
This ❤
my boyfriend was obsessed with this song as a teen and he sat me down and had me listen to this song. he said he always wanted to share this song with someone he really loved and cared about and it is now an incredibly special song to me.
👍 if you’re still listening in 2020, I know I am 🌹🥳🥰🔥💥
its 2019 tho
I am!
2022
2023 and seeing Andrew McMahon in December! Been waiting 20 years to even see a piece of Something Corporate!!
It has been more than 3 years since I first heard this song, and the lyrics "Dark blue dark blue, have you ever been alone in a crowded room?" are still some of the most touching lines I've ever heard. I love it. It's the perfect description of a feeling only some people have had, and everyone who has had it will recognise it in these lyrics. And recognising it comes with this overwhelming sense of relief. "I'm not alone. Other people have felt like this." And it connects those lonely people to each other through the music.
You should check out Bright Eyes.
All of it, but specifically Hit The Switch, which has the line “I’m completely alone at a table of friends…..I feel nothing for them. NOTHING.”
So thankful to have been introduced to Jack's Mannequin in 2006. Glad to see others in the comments that we all share the same humbling history
WOW wow 10 years ago I was going through a major depression as a 16 year old.
I remember walking to some field and laid down listening to this over and over. 😱😩🥳
This song just opened the door to some crazy memories 😪🤯
Hope you're better now, Kourttney with a "K"
I adore Andrew so much, that when I see anything about his illness I get upset to the point where I break down in tears. He is such a strong man, being able to overcome such a huge barrier to make music, and to help people through charity work. Nobody is more deserving than Andrew McMahon. I hope to see an even brighter future for him.
Netflix>OneTreeHill>Season3 Episode 15 😆 the best nostalgia
Yeah... Than episode 16 happened... Still makes me cry
Yesss!! Been watching OTH again and everytime their songs hit so hard!
Jesus, come on Anzi this was our song. Chicago summer 06. You didn't fall out of love you just forgot how we felt back then, all you have to do is remember x
I heard this for the first time in years at the panic at the disco/weezer concert where Andrew's new band opened. My friends and I were freaking out because we recognized and used to love this song. Ah nostalgia
Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness. I wanted to see that tour sooooo bad!
I had the same experience!!
2:21-3:09 is my favorite part. I'm 15 and was obviously pretty young when this song came out. I remember hearing it back then. I have no idea why this type of music doesn't get played on the radio.
+Danielle Herz Just out of curiosity, do you listen to any of John Mayer's songs?
+Danielle Herz You may have heard Waiting On the World to Change by him. That's a good song if you're interested in checking it out
+Danielle Herz If only these kinds of songs were still played on the radio :/
+Vince Palmieri The answer is easy, this music isn't mindless beats that the low IQ society we live in can dance to in an effort to pick up an equally stupid mate like an animal.
You must think you're very intelligent.
I met this man. He is simply one of the nicest and down to earth people I've ever met.
holy shit. memories from high school
thank god for one tree hill showing me an amazing band
One tree hill was the best show to discover bands and music!!
wow, i'm currently a high school freshman and after years of listening to nicki minaj and all that other stuff, i am so glad i came across this band. will definitely be on my playlist, this is perfection.
Tiana Taylor Tran welcome to your emo phase..or whatever u kids call it nowadays lol
This comment made me feel so old
Haha - Born in 1992 and I am proud of your music selection. Avoid the emo word, go for "Scene phase" instead. ;) -- "It is a style, not an emotion guys! god!". lol
This is when music was good. When music meant something and made you truely feel something. When music touched your soul in a way no music could today. Nothing compares i dare you to challenge me on this. Something corporate gave us andrew mcmahon... i loved them before but then andrew showed me what music can really do to you. He is and always will be my favorite. His music has inspired me throughout many times in my life. I truely wish there was more music like this... or more people who understood. His music reaches in and tickles your insides... in the best way. This is how you should always feel when listening to music.
God, this band will always be perfect in every way possible.
Still true.
This song was in my mixtape for that someone. Can't believe I found this song back after 10+ years.
im 16 and i just discovered this band, and i agree so much, there needs to be more music like this
Every time I miss being young and carefree I always come back to this song. Definitely my comfort song ❤
Jack's Mannequin is such an amazing, inspirational band. That's why I love them so much.
this song is so fucking iconic
Most beautiful song ever. Andrew has the voice of an angel!!
This song carries some real wounds because of the one I got this from and another I gave it to. It's too good to not let them heal.
For those who don't get the video, it pays homage to the Jane Fonda classic "They Shoot Horses, Don't They?".
Quick plot: set in Depression era 30's, people join a dance contest with a chance to win money (hard to come by during the Depression). What ensues is a grueling, inhumane contest, with people dying of exhaustion, etc. In the movie, Fonda's character is so distraught by the contest, she asks her partner to kill her. Hence, why the couple at the end kill themselves for not winning.
This video (and this song)... The whole feeling around this music in this place in time will always mean the world to me
this is probably one of the addicting songs of all time
will FOREVER love this song
My English teacher introduced me to jacks mannequin! We bonded over our shared love of fall out boy and panic! At the disco
Thank god you’re alive Andrew! My late 20’s and early 30’s. What a crazy time in my life! Andrew’s music has helped me through some tough shit! God bless you amazing soul!
This song and band are just amazing. Jack's Mannequin makes truly amazing music, and Andrew McMahon has a truly amazing voice. it all goes together perfectly. :)
I got to see these guys open for The Fray back when I was a teenager. I honestly had no idea who they were at the time. But I've loved this song ever since.
This is one of my all-time favourite, and it's just so underrated, more people should know about this song

This might sound weird, but whenever I can't sleep, I listen to this song. I don't know why, but it works 9 times out of 10.

I seriously adore Andrew. He's such an inspirational talented guy.
From 16 to 27 never ceases to sink into my bones like water in a flood
This morning I heard this for the first time since highschool... man time flies. Forgot how much I loved this.
Here from one tree hill 🔥🔥
The feels.
I love a guy who can rock a piano! Andrew McMahon and Ben Folds pretty much take the cake. Who else is stoked Ben Folds is getting together with The Five to make a new album?? It's coming out on Tuesday! I'm going to be allllll over that.
This song is better than any drug
forgot how gorgeous this song is.... love the whole album
Agreed, however I would say of the new generation of music Everything in Transit is one of the best albums and Andrew McMahon one of the best artists.
great song
My boyfriend (unknowingly) introduced me to Jack's Mannequin... I'm sort of glad he did.
....have you ever been alone in a crowded room?
i know i felt like that, and still do sometimes.
Omg...dear lord...I forgot how much I loved this song
The passion in Andrew's performance is just so brilliant ;-;
i saw these at reading 2009 and thought they were good and i still think that now
This was the song I listened to almost every night before I went to sleep, I did that for 7 years and then I got into Screamo. This is the only song I can listen to other than metal. This song can captivate anyone's attention...
My #num. 1 song (:
this song is an instant mood booster
Bravo!! Like this song does not exist in Japan!!
this used to play on american eagle tv a lot ! it was my fav clothing store in middle school. miss those days.
Jack's Mannequin always seems to make me feel better and Andrew McMahon has been my inspiration for many years, my son's name is Jack Andrew because of this band and Andrew McMahon himself.

I am Jack's lost soul.
Thank god for one tree hill, I woulda never heard this song!!
Never heard of this band before, then see like three different references to it in one day, one of which is two years old. Das fudge?
wow, brings back so many memories....
Was a fan of Something Corporate as a teen (and still am) but never knew about Jack's Mannequin until I was listening to a first season episode of the Man of The Hour podcast. Off-topic but great podcast to discover more great tunes like these.
