i’d love to see a “picking back up series i’ve started” video!! it’ll give you an excuse to pick up second books in a series you started and liked but didn’t necessarily know when you’d continue with i.e. Harrow the Ninth, Parable of the Talents, A Closed and Common Orbit, Court of Wanderers, etc.
I think I’d definitely want to know how long my string was if only for practical reasons. Like, if I’m gonna die fairly soon then there’s no reason to plan for the future instead of just doing everything I want immediately regardless of the detriment to the future
I would 100% want to know the length of my string. I’m an INTJ, I need to be prepared! Also for me, it would reduce a lot of stress and anxiety, like if I knew I was going to die at age 62 then the faint background worries of being hit by a car or getting cancer in my 40s and leaving my young kids motherless, would be gone-or if I knew I was going to die at 42 I could prepare my young kids so losing me hopefully wouldn’t be as traumatic.
People will find *anything* to get worked up over. People get out of sorts over how many books you've read?? smh Things just get stranger and stranger. I love seeing high numbers like this :) I'm the first one saying to myself "Dang, I only read 5 books in March" but it's just a fun thought. I love following high volume readers; it makes for so many great book reviews. Anyway, great video. I'm new here and have only seen a couple of your videos but have subscribed today. I so enjoyed this one, and I am *thrilled* to have been introduced to _The Measure_ I find that concept fascinating!! I literally paused the video, went to purchase the book and came back now to finish the video.
Dan Jones is one of my favorite authors! If you're interested in English history, I'd highly suggest the Plantagenets by him. He also has a documentary series on Netflix about British castles. He makes history so interesting and fun. Highly recommend.
Idk if this would be a nightmare to figure out but maybe you could organize a wrap up by starting with one book and recommending one of the remaining books to a character in the first book. So an example from my March reads: My Last Innocent Year by Daisy Alpert Florin has a main character, Isabel, who enters an affair with her professor in the wake of other trauma. It’s a coming of age story. I’d recommend to Isabel Bounjour Tristesse by Francoise Sagan, which is also a coming of age story where the main character, Cecile, has fraught relationships with the adults around her. To Cecile I’d recommend Everything I Know about Love by Dolly Alderton. And so on
I read The Memory Police in the beginning of 2022 and I gave it 3 stars, but I think of it often and I can't get rid of it cause' it has a special place in my heart. Maybe it's more of a 4 star read, a book that grow on you with time.
Vera Wong’s unsolicited advice for murderers was my favourite book of last year, and you have no idea how nervous/excited I’ve been to see what you’d think of it
I think I would want to know how long my string was, not necessarily for planning purposes or making life changes based on it but I think I would be at peace knowing when. I have a very interesting relationship with the idea of my death and I thinking knowing would be an extension of that.
I feel like I’m starting to see a lot of mushrooms on this account- curious if this will somehow turn into a vlog👀 (I.e reading books with mushrooms on the cover- like with the rabbits lol)
I'm so glad you loved Vera Wong! It wasn't a perfect 5 star for me, but it was my favorite book of the month. I'm so happy you picked this as a book club book because I don't think I would've read it otherwise since cozy mysteries don't usually work for me. It was a delight.
I just added dinner on monster island to my tbr because I LOVED it came from the closet, if you have more non fiction recs like that, I’d be happy to take em
To answer the string question…. Yes…. I’d want to know…. I’d want to know how long I’m going to be miserable or happy. Definitely would want to know. 😅
I’m already pretty old so I think I’d like to know. If I were young, no. But I think I’d like to secretly want to know Ihow long my spouse would live, having gone through a long period of my husband suffering with cancer. It would help to plan, manage and make decisions.
I'm stuck in the middle of The Woods All Black and having trouble picking it back up. I am just not having fun witnessing Leslie is being hated on, it's so frustrating 🤬 but your review makes me want to finish it 😂 so thank you!!
I really enjoyed it, not as much as Feed them Silence but then how could it live up to that?? I do find myself wondering if part of its impact for me was that I grew up in one of these small Appalachian towns so I found a lot to relate to
I think a marathon is actually the best way to consume them! There's a lot of moving parts and characters that it's easy to forget book to book if you're waiting months in between!
I’ve had “The Measure” on my TBR for awhile, and bumped it up after you gave the summary in a prior video. I’ve got another couple hours to finish, but I’m on Team ‘I don’t want to know’. I’ll die when in die. 🤷🏼♀️
not you making me wait til LAST for your thoughts on Hawk Mountain. it’s a wild ride for sure. I also gave it a 4 but I think about it quite a lot still 🫨
kayla!! as an empath i always want the people i like to be enjoying themselves, so maybe one way you can do wrap-ups is by only talking about the books you haven't vlogged?? and then maybe give your ratings for the books you did vlog without further review. i feel like you might have tried this concept before and maybe it's too similar to your quarterly wrap up, but it might make the process of filming these monthly wrap-ups more enjoyable
I felt the exact same about this installment of Finlay Donovan! It made me remember how much I enjoyed the first book and forget the two flops in between. I also feel like this wrapped up the overall plot and character development… so, yeah, I also will not be reading any subsequent books that come out. This ended on a high note for me. 😊
I would want to know the length of my string. I would appreciate knowing the timeframe I have to do the things I want. I’d also appreciate knowing for the sake of people I love. I’ve lost people suddenly and it’s awful, better to give them time to prepare.
I can attest to the fact that Dan Jones’ non-fiction is super good and worth picking up! I had an arc of his ‘Queer Villains of Myth and Legend’ and its v well researched and presented
An interesting video idea would be Grady Hendrix’s paperbacks from hell. I recently got his book of them and it’s a ton of fun and I’ve even read two of the paperbacks and they’re a hoot.
depending on what you didn't love about it, I'd say yes! It took me a good 50-60 pages to vibe with the tone and settle into the book (mostly because I don't usually like cozy mysteries). After I got through that, I really had a great time with it.
I would definitely look at my string. I remember in the book when one girl looked at her partner’s string and I thought that was not her place and in invasion of privacy without his consent….. but knowing myself I would totally look at my husband’s string
If you are able to visualize descriptions in horror, I recommend Hell Followed With Us. It's YA, but I read it for the Trans Rights Readathon and really loved it. I think it would have been even better if I was able to truly visualize the descriptions, but I rarely do that well with books.
Ehh I don’t think I’d look at my string. I feel like if I knew I was going to ☠️ early then maybe I wouldn’t find a partner or have a kid, or build any relationship in general, because I’d feel guilty leaving them early. And then I’d lose out on love
i’d love to see a “picking back up series i’ve started” video!! it’ll give you an excuse to pick up second books in a series you started and liked but didn’t necessarily know when you’d continue with i.e. Harrow the Ninth, Parable of the Talents, A Closed and Common Orbit, Court of Wanderers, etc.
No one should ever be ashamed of how many books they read!!
I think I’d definitely want to know how long my string was if only for practical reasons. Like, if I’m gonna die fairly soon then there’s no reason to plan for the future instead of just doing everything I want immediately regardless of the detriment to the future
i can’t even relax when i know i have work later that day, so no i wouldn’t want to know the length of my string LOL
This is so relatable.
0:50 "well that's too damn bad!"
Lol came to the comments for this. You can't say one without the other
@@tiffany5417 😂
I literally said this out loud 😂
My people lol! 😆
i love living in kayla's world 💖 i'm obsessed with your sweater btw, it's so cute!
I would 100% want to know the length of my string. I’m an INTJ, I need to be prepared! So happy to see you picked up Hawk Mountain! I'm shocked it isn't more of a booktube darling tbh
A date with Wendell would be so fun!
I got Lore of the Wilds as an ARC and $35 is insane for that quality… 😢

Re: The Measure you should check out the essay collection The Machine of Death if you haven't read it before. It's The Measure but make it...unhinged.
You described Wendell perfectly!!!🤣
i cant WAIT to talk about vera!!!
Wendell is one of my favorite fictional characters! I loved Map of the Otherlands and also can’t wait for the third book! 😍
I loved the Finlay Donovan series!

Not sure if you’ve done this one before but organizing by how well the cover fits the book
I think I would want to know how long my string was, not necessarily for planning purposes or making life changes based on it but I think I would be at peace knowing when. I have a very interesting relationship with the idea of my death and I thinking knowing would be an extension of that.
I would want to know the length of my string. I would make different choices based on how much time I had.
Have you read Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro? I feel like it has a similar vibe to the Memory Police (at least as far as you spoke about here)
Yes! Unfortunately I gave it 2⭐ hahaha 🥲
You posted at the BEST time🔥🔥🔥
I feel like I’m starting to see a lot of mushrooms on this account- curious if this will somehow turn into a vlog👀 (I.e reading books with mushrooms on the cover- like with the rabbits lol)
I love Wendell too! It blows my mind that anyone wouldn’t love him!!!😲😂❤️
I'm so glad you loved Vera Wong! It wasn't a perfect 5 star for me, but it was my favorite book of the month. I'm so happy you picked this as a book club book because I don't think I would've read it otherwise since cozy mysteries don't usually work for me. It was a delight.
does anyone know how i can make cute reading graphs like the ones at 0:41? i’ve seen them in previous wrapups and i’ve always been curious
Ooohh the Measure's on my tbr now :o it sounds amazing and Ibeen seeing it around a lot
I just added dinner on monster island to my tbr because I LOVED it came from the closet, if you have more non fiction recs like that, I’d be happy to take em
LORE OF THE WILDS WAS $35?!?!?!?! oh man i'm so glad i got mine through the library
To answer the string question…. Yes…. I’d want to know…. I’d want to know how long I’m going to be miserable or happy. Definitely would want to know. 😅
I’m hereeee 💕 happy birthday again 🥳🐰
I’m already pretty old so I think I’d like to know. If I were young, no. But I think I’d like to secretly want to know Ihow long my spouse would live, having gone through a long period of my husband suffering with cancer. It would help to plan, manage and make decisions.

It… sure goes somewhere 😅 I’m obsessed with Lee Mandelo and will like anything he does though
Ooh, intrigue 😏 I really liked both Summer Sons and Feed Them Silence so that’s a good sign!
I really enjoyed it, not as much as Feed them Silence but then how could it live up to that?? I do find myself wondering if part of its impact for me was that I grew up in one of these small Appalachian towns so I found a lot to relate to
Honey witch sounds like it would be so good :(
When you were talking about reading The Measure I thought "I bet she'd really like The Memory Police" Guess I was right. =)
I definitely want to know when I die. I cant do anything without a deadline.
I felt the same way about Vera 🥰
The audiobook was so enjoyable, and I would highly recommend that.
I am about to read book two of Finlay Donovan. I am wondering if I should leave time between each book to not have them feel repetitive.
I think a marathon is actually the best way to consume them! There's a lot of moving parts and characters that it's easy to forget book to book if you're waiting months in between!
I’d look at the length of my string. I’d like to know when. Am I going to be at my job or am I quitting and traveling before I go?
The Woods All Black and Hawk Mountain are both on my TBR and I’ve only gotten more excited for them.
Kimberly Lemming's book was so unserious to me, but definitely glad I read it. The new covers are so gorgeous!
I’ve had “The Measure” on my TBR for awhile, and bumped it up after you gave the summary in a prior video. I’ve got another couple hours to finish, but I’m on Team ‘I don’t want to know’. I’ll die when in die. 🤷🏼♀️
The Holes reference at the beginning is why ilysm lol! 😂
How do you have time for anything else? Hahah I have kids and I can barely get through two books a week hahahahha
right when i’m about to get into bed god bless 🙏
Can't wait to see monthly stats of physical vs ebook vs audio!!
I was looking forward to honey witch, but I will adjust my expectations now
i felt the same way abt The Woods All Black!
not you making me wait til LAST for your thoughts on Hawk Mountain. it’s a wild ride for sure. I also gave it a 4 but I think about it quite a lot still 🫨
I was hoping you'd say Wendell for a date because he IS a hoot and a half! (I'm stealing this phrase)
I would checking how long my string is ASAP - knowing my death would help me balance my life accordingly, I’d make my last week wild
kayla!! as an empath i always want the people i like to be enjoying themselves, so maybe one way you can do wrap-ups is by only talking about the books you haven't vlogged?? and then maybe give your ratings for the books you did vlog without further review. i feel like you might have tried this concept before and maybe it's too similar to your quarterly wrap up, but it might make the process of filming these monthly wrap-ups more enjoyable

wait there are people who don't like wendell?? how is that even possible?😭😭😭
Dinner on Monster Island sounds really interesting.
Wendell is the correct answer!
Found another book set in your town, The Grimmer by Naben Ruthnum.
👀
I would want to know the length of my string. I would appreciate knowing the timeframe I have to do the things I want. I’d also appreciate knowing for the sake of people I love. I’ve lost people suddenly and it’s awful, better to give them time to prepare.

Someday may give Vera Wong a try;)
I don’t think I’ll be picking up the honey witch after your review 😂
An interesting video idea would be Grady Hendrix’s paperbacks from hell. I recently got his book of them and it’s a ton of fun and I’ve even read two of the paperbacks and they’re a hoot.
The pink sweater 😍 💝💖💕
Please bring back the closet clean out 🤞🤞🤞
Should I give Vera Wong another chance in time for the live show? 😮
depending on what you didn't love about it, I'd say yes! It took me a good 50-60 pages to vibe with the tone and settle into the book (mostly because I don't usually like cozy mysteries). After I got through that, I really had a great time with it.
happy birthday two days after 🤭🥳
I would definitely look at my string. I remember in the book when one girl looked at her partner’s string and I thought that was not her place and in invasion of privacy without his consent….. but knowing myself I would totally look at my husband’s string
ironically i’d rather die than know how long my string is
Lol you picked mine! I guess I will not be reading Weiss 😂
100% would go on a date with Wendell for the plot
If you are able to visualize descriptions in horror, I recommend Hell Followed With Us. It's YA, but I read it for the Trans Rights Readathon and really loved it. I think it would have been even better if I was able to truly visualize the descriptions, but I rarely do that well with books.
I would not want to know how long I will live. I would just be counting down 😅
I’ve read the first Finley and loved it and then 2 and 3 were so boring so I’m going to let it go 😅
Ugh! I wish I hit 25. I had a really bad reading month. I only read 5 books. Way below my average. It's kind of my fault for doing a romance month.
Ehh I don’t think I’d look at my string. I feel like if I knew I was going to ☠️ early then maybe I wouldn’t find a partner or have a kid, or build any relationship in general, because I’d feel guilty leaving them early. And then I’d lose out on love
