- Опубликовано: 3 май 2024
- Haulover Inlet in Florida is a popular spot for experienced boaters seeking a thrill. Known for its challenging conditions and strong currents, the inlet connects the Atlantic Ocean to the Intracoastal Waterway and is famous for its rough waves and strong winds, which can make boating hazardous. Despite the risks, many boaters are drawn to the inlet's challenging conditions and the opportunity to navigate through it.

What went wrong with the Captain here? This boat clearly took on too much water!
He bought a boat
He did the best thing, get on plane and let the water drain from the deck, any water below deck the bilge pump(s) would pump it out.
I feel he prob never pumped bilge out b4 embarking on the day..and that access water was enough to cause it to list. Rains a lot down there . We're just getting our boats ready now up here in crap weather land. Rockford Illinois lol
1:18 the woman appears to lift the aft hatch and probably noted all the water. Along with being overloaded in the bow, I wonder if the draining plug had been put in prior to launch?
@@stuartb3609 That's an ice chest.
That scout at about the 7 minute mark just sliced through the waves. It was really graceful.
Beautiful boat for sure
That boat is a monster that's why
The 'Scout' captain was the only one that knew engine trim exists. Blows my mind watching the majority hit decent swells head on with bow down.
Exactly! Trim to get the bow up and not plow in a wave. Really calling them a Capt is way to generous
Much less the bilge switch…
@@jtpalooki7757the what ?
You should see the Mississippi River...1 out of 100 know what trim is or does...it's nuts, some are well into the 6 digit range $$$ boats too.
@@toddgwinn8395 This is why the coast guard makes a distinction between an operator (OUPV) and a master on the application for your license. They aren't captains until they are licensed.
The people surfing and the wildlife at the end of the video really highlight the importance of why keeping the ocean clean is so important.
That axopar though…what a boat
That first boat almost sank. The captain appeared inexperienced and the boat was overloaded. That was evident every time someone moved and it would lean way over. He needs to take the captain course to learn how to handle that boat.
The extreme lean looked less related to folks moving around and rather seemed to me evidence of a lot of water under the deck. Once he got the boat turned around, he at least kept it under control long enough for the bilge pump to do its job.

@@user-xt7rv3sn6t the cooler was floating 1:25
A captains license does not replace experience and coaching. Merchant Mariner Credentials are only given to people who can prove years and many hrs of experience. I only point this out because, there is no "captain course". And if there is, its a scam. Nothing replaces years on a boat under the supervision of a seasoned captain.
I was waiting on the top of the NX 290 to break off. 6:00
On a rough day, it ends up without the top. Hey, great to see you here, as always
Very close to disaster, important safety lessons here about the effect of all that water on board that seriously affected stability
He was lucky to be in a hull as reliable as the Scout
All he needs to do is trim engines litle bit up same trim like for cruising and give some gas.Than it will be OK!
"I christen thy, the Flying Wasp"! Caddyshack:)
I really like the shot of that fishing boat towards the end.
Therapy IV It is the most filmed boat by our channel. Glad you like it
Yep, Therapy IV is a floating landmark and Capt Ed is a great man too.
@@dannyv2335 Do you know who designed her? Around 1960? Warped planing hull with near flat deadrise aft? Single screw?
Just curious what are the masts on the sides of the boat used for?
@@vibratingstring she’s just listed as a Custom Carolina. I couldn’t tell you.
The water doesn't care about how much fun you want to have, it will kill you every chance it gets.
2:26 That Axopar can get it 😅
hell yes
I think I need a black Axopar. On my small lake here in Oklahoma.
@@glenwitteman2585Arent they gonna think you’re ‘The Law’?
Perfect demonstration of the free surface effect
Key west 8:38 perfect conditions and a great captain
Agreed!
Yes! My thoughts excactly. And a much smaller boat than the videos first hero 😂
TARPON at 0:29 is the best yet!
8:30 The Bulgarian boat handled it like a boss. БЯЛА , cyrillic stated 'byala', means white in Bulgarian
That Scout may not have sunk but was heading to a swamping and wet passengers!
Headed tward capsize. It was lolling with all the free surface.
Most of these production center consoles do not get water out fast enough after stuffing the bow. Most also are not watertight decks--far from it. So you get free surface on deck AND in the bilge. They get very dangerous. They are not real boats. Toys.
Ha. At 5:00, The ole boy hang off the side of the Pursuit looking like like he's about to puke. Poor guy.
Sweet video. Awesome drone action too. Everytime I take off from Opa Locka airport we usually fly over the inlet. I'm always looking for the boats.
That Key West came down nicely off the back of those waves. Didn't see much jostling around at all.
That guy needs boater education! Love these videos keep it up!
I appreciate that!
99% are not captain, s only boat owners 😮
They are renters. They dont use fenders, a dead give-away.
Alot of these guys did just fine imho, just choppy waters. The ones that have no business being out in the water are just SO obvious though 😢
I love the waves
Folks out taking risks and having fun. Cool
I know nothing about boats but that Scout seemed to just slice through everything.
At least captain made all kids wear life jackets. That’s a good sign. Also he turned around and came back in when things weren’t looking right. Seems like a good decision
10 out off 10 for the drone pilots!
Scout cap did a really good job trimming those engines.
That Axopar was magnificent. Cut the waves like nothing.
Knowing what salt water does to everything on a boat I would pick a calm day to go out !
The amount of time to wash everything off with fresh water and clean is time consuming !
Well, that's part of having a boat. Even on a calm day, you can't escape getting to the dock and cleaning the boat
My current boats are too small for the ocean, however; Before we sold the cruiser it took a day to get the boat cleaned flushed and waxed before putting her back into my shop. Therefore we mostly only did freshwater lakes...
Fiberglass doesn't care about salt. Ride hard and put away wet :-D
@@vibratingstring So you haven't looked at the brown scum on the bottom and sides of the boats? Or consider what salt does to the cooling system? Nor considered the mechanical components in the engine and controls? Or the boat trailers on the side of the road with a tire leaning over because the bearings failed? PS Glad, I will never need to purchase anything you previously owned... 😉
@@vibratingstringgelcoats and paints do, though. Salt water penetrates and dramatically increases the osmotic pressure, resulting in blisters and delamination.
Definitely have to keep the bow up, motor trimmed up, no trimtabs. People riding in the bow in these conditions is a no no.
That Scout is the definition of a creditcard captain. Get that bow up. That axopar is a beaut. My creditcard ain't big enough for that one.
6:00 NX boats from Brazil
Vaak zie je bij hetzelfde soort boten dat het water als het ware wordt "opgeschept" zodat de boot volloopt en op het punt staat om te zinken. Fout in het ontwerp van deze boten.
"Captains" ?? I have a more accurate descriptions. But I would be banned...
Afraid of being banned from RUclips? How old are you😂😂😂😂😂
They ban you from the channel, not youtube @mr supers
IMO that Pursuit should actually go slower with that wave height and spacing. The only thing that’ll help is bigger boat length in that situation.
Yes, exactly. There are conditions that simply suck.
Every captain should know when is slack tide times are. For that inlet smaller boats should be crossed on slack tide. Knowing your tides is a must on any waterways that is effected but the moon cycle.. The captain of that boat has a lot to learn how the seas work. I've been saying this on boatzone for a while that ever boat operator must do a course on boating, know your rules and know your tides.
He scooped up a crap load of water, you could see it had turned into an unstable ballast, lucky he didn't roll!
Axopar barreled through the waves..Midnight Express rolled on through as well..
A closed bow boat with a hardtop and at least dual high capacity bilge pumps is the only boat I would consider taking through there.
its like Ricky bobby, who wants to go fast
Those midnight express boats seem to do rather well
Therapy IV needs a new captain....
Everyone trying to be the next Blue Top Legend, now that they know they are on video all the time lol
That boat has too many people on it!! The captain should've known better..
agree ;)
Thats the problem. These clowns who owns these boats wont do anything different next time either. Ignorance is no excuse for not knowing.
I think that boat was very close to sinking.
Did the Axopar lose the cover for the light?
You should have a boat designed for the water you mainly drive on. I see many in your videos who play arouns in non-suitable boats for this area.
yes he did it
Was it a light or a cam cover? Zoomed in but little too blurry to be able to determine.
Lights are very common on Finnish boats, just guessed it would be a cover for that. But a camera, you say? Could be.
It's a FLIR / Thermal camera and it's obviously not Axopars fault it could not handle some waves...
Captain? No Trim, No throttle, no life jackets = No Clue! That Scout is a super nice boat, if he was in a lesser quality boat, they may have turned out differently
Super closet
The first boat I’m not understanding what’s going on there. Big stability issues. Then the whole rear was so buried it appeared that the entire engines were under water. It’s not like anyone was worried and trying to bailout any water. So that doesn’t appear to be the issue.
US U-Boaters 🤙🌊
Some (and most) people DO NOT NEED A BOAT !!!
Scout boat appears to have alot of water in the bilge. Evident when the boat rolls side to side even though the passengers are centered.
Axopar is so sick
What does that boat at 7:39 cost?
Turn bilge on!
Any updates on the trash dumpers? Hopefully it is being addressed!
What's the over/under for soft tissue injuries caused by reckless captains? 1st boat, did he find it on Craigslist?
I think that Scout was already taking on water. I wouldn’t be surprised if the plug wasn’t installed. There was enough time to clear the water off the deck before it got back to the bridge, but it was still struggling.
All that weight in teh bow (so many clueless helmsmen out there) made it impossible to drain out the transom scuppers. Not enough sheer to the cockpit sole.
@@vibratingstring the boat was bow high for quite awhile as it approached the bridge. It would’ve drained. There was water in the hull.
At least the kids had life jackets on.
I like that black boat a lot
as soon as I seen the man bun, I knew they were in trouble
:-D Remember that guy who sold the old sailing cat to that young couple? HAHA reminded me of that.
4 to 5's at 2 secs...what do you think will happen. Stuffing is just part of it.
I notice other drones flying above boats. Are they yours or another party operating them?
Amazing how fast the bow comes up when everyone moves their butts to the back of the boat. Why any captain would have people sitting in the bow going through an inlet, especially one as rough as Haulover is boeyond me.
I watch these videos and I say to myself where are they going. Outside of the entrance is nothing but white caps.
Open bow vessels (bow riders) are at far, far, far greater risk of taking on water and sinking than are closed bow vessels in surf waves. It is every vessel's Captain who has the obligation, responsibility and duty to balance the passenger load in his vessel and to operate their vessel at a safe speed for the conditions on the water. The vessel was in danger of sinking in this video because the Skipper was totally clueless about safely operating his vessel.
Boats generally do not sink Sam - but they do fill with water.
They took on a ton of water into the hull and I do not see anything indicating a bilge pump running, he nearly sank/capsized that boat with all that water, on top of it looking like it was near capacity with passengers.
Do you have these people even check the weather and what the tide and all that is going to be and how rough to see is going to be I don't think so
Did I see Mr. KAZOOM fly past around the 2:00 mark or so???
and to all boaters, what do you do if your engine stalls? No time to think, what do you do?
What fish was that !?
The Captain as you call him, didn't have a clue to what he was doing!
The Scout captain should not have had people in the bow going out of the inlet especially in following seas. It was not about to sink, just unbalanced. Following seas are tough and not easy for novices and even experienced captains.
more money than sense. that could have been a very bad day with kids in the water had it capsized or sunk
Why is it that they manage to get the bow up after turning around but don't tale any measures at all going out
Looks like he had a full bilge
Ich liebe diesen Kanal, er zeigt mir jedesmal wie dumm und leichtsinnig die Menschen sind!
I know nothing about boats but it looks like a whole lot of stupid with some "captains". Those Midnight Express boats are beastly!
Haulover is just a bad mama-jammer during a strong tide regardless your boat and experience.
Totem pole intelligence
I would speculate the boat at 1:39, listing side to side, has a hold full of water, although it also appears to be overloaded. It seems to me that boaters at Hauover are some of the most clueless I have ever seen; The ramp videos aren't any better regarding skills. PS If I were to boat there, I would have two high capacity automatic bilge pumps minimum...
I would have a real boat, not some POS production boat with water getting into the bilge through the laughable "watertight" hatches that aren't even weathertight.
@@vibratingstring Well it would seem to me the open bow is nothing more than a giant water scoop? Back in 89, I had a bow-rider; however; When underway, I had the canvas snapped in place over the front. PS Although I doubt the canvas would have held up, considering the hundreds of gallons taken aboard with each stuffing of the bow?
@@jamesw.6931 yes open bows are scoops but if there is enough angle (sheer) to the cockpit sole, the water will run aft and out the scuppers. Most of these boats on the market are not properly designed.
One of my designs is completely open but the cockpit sheer and the transom scuppers, along with no deck hatches, means you cannot end up in this situation
@@vibratingstring I gather you build custom boats?
@@jamesw.6931 I am a naval architect. I've done some custom small boats, more engineering than building them. I do a lot of consulting for new stabilizer installations and see all the latest production 25 to 50 footers as well as superyachts. Some names are not worth their reputations haha. Most of my new builds over the years have been commercial tugs, ferries, tankers, barges etc, or small boats from 13 to 25 feet.
Why would you overload so many people in the bow?? Some people really need training before they pilot a vessel...
There must be a point where a high percentage of boat owners are sailing out at full speed just to get filmed and make the show,
i was looking for the french word "écope": "bailer", theses boats are bailers...
How often does the channel get dredged?
Gastan muy buen dinero en comprar un buen bote pero no gastan un dollar en aprender a manejarlo 🫢🫢
All they had to do is get off the bow!
everyone cant be on the same side.
speed is fine too rough for it
dude ! You got like 2 feet of air
I'll take my chances against the waves, current and boats versus a school or a few Barracuda targeting me....anyone that has never witnessed in the shorts/shallow areas in the lower keys were predator fish cruise along the edge of what amounts to a giant sand bar literally looks like in the middle of the ocean...maybe a few Mangrove Swamps in the distance...it's beautiful with turquoise water that you can stand in...only 3-4ft deep at the most....but when see a silver streak out of the corner of your eye...I suggest to get out of the water...I've never seen fish swim as fast as they do...and their mouths are elongated with massive razor sharp excessively large teeth....like a TIGER FISH or a large German Shepherd showing it's teeth...except all of the Barricuda's teeth are the sbig pointy incisor looking type...Not sure of that was one surfacing very slowly,,...don't think so....couldn't see enough of it but it's color is almost identical if not identical...shiny silver....
Where was a sinking boat
2:00 license revoked. Dangerously stupid.
He came really close to a major catastrophe.
Most boat owner seems to have lots of horsepower, but not much brain power 😮😮😮😮
I can only scratch my head at boaters operating their radars in broad daylight and unlimited visibility. Is this just for looks? Does it actually provide any safety? It just looks silly.
IF you have the toys, you gitta use them :)
@@vibratingstring - Or at least pretend to be using them.
Those opened front deck boats should never cross the inlet can’t they just figure it out? You’re basically asking for trouble 🙄🙄🙄
Does this qualify for an almost Darwin Award?
You use the term captain very loosely.
