Hi Lor! I was just wondering if you would consider doing accurate English subtitles for people who are deaf or hard of hearing? The squeaky voice ending was a bit confusing 😅
I was definitely thinking the same thing. The whole situation is very Lime Crime. Although, I expect that Bodyline might be less hated than Lime Crime. A lot of people still wear, buy, and resell Bodyline, but so many people boycott Lime Crime entirely even despite the new management.
It tends to happen when you create content about other people/companies product. As a personal experience, I used to run a blog about a korean app and some people thought I was in contact with the devs. I guess they think that people who create content like this have part of the knowledge because they are somehow connected to the product's creators.
The "Mr Yan So Angry" sale thing is REALLY, REALLY NOSTALGIC and the fact that it is nostlagic to me is REALLY messed up lol. They had that video of him slicing stuff with a sword on the website for AGES, even past the sale dates. Burned into my brain. xD; It's also crazy to me that people often considered Bodyline as "a lolita fashion shop". When I discovered their site it was mostly costumes, with some lolita mixed in. I always just saw it as a costume shop that happened to sell decent-quality yet very cheap lolita clothes. I almost saw it as a fluke, like during my first purchase I was joking about how impossible this situation seemed haha
And yet it was you who showed me you could be quite far into lolita and still wear bodyline and make super cohesive and beautiful coords using their peaces!
@@user-cl6fr7mq7l DAWWW thank you so much for the sweet comment! ;u; I still have lots of my Bodyline dresses, blouses and accessories! And I also often mix them into my casual everyday coords unrelated to lolita fashion too. I recently got a seifuku from them when I was in Tokyo (as they are still half a costume shop).
I agree, it was always more of a costume shop with lolita mixed in. They didn't start selling mostly lolita until people started calling them a lolita brand, which they probably realised would get them business.
I had no idea that the "Mr. Yan furious sale" was anything more than a weird gimmick back then. What a strange and embarrassing thing to do. I think I got the Sweet Biscuit and Rose Macaron dresses during that sale. They were a couple of my first lolita dresses and I knew little about dress quality but I still have them and even though I now have AP dresses, I still think the bodyline ones are not bad. I like to wear them to work.
The mr yan’s still angry sale is horrid & insanely unprofessional but,,,, it’s so funny to me?? Like who filmed that video? When did he film that video?? Like he’s a gross gross gross GROSs man but lord does that video make me laugh
I would really enjoy if you make a serie on lolita brands ! Not specifically the drama, but their designers, their style, their big milestones.... kinda like short documentaries. It would be really helpful !
Ugh, I remember the Yoshiko and Venus Angelic controversies. I was disappointed with how a lot of people in the community seemed to handle both of those situations. While there were lolitas who believed them and stopped shopping at Bodyline, there were others who decided that the girls were either lying or “causing drama” or “airing their dirty laundry” by talking about what happened. I was a little surprised, since around this time conversations about victims of sexual harassment/assault were becoming more common and I expected more compassion for Yoshiko and Venus.
I remember watching the Venus video and feeling an intense air of “uncomfortable” coming from her. Even feeling uncomfortable myself just watching Venus having to interact with Yan.
Just wanted to add a note re: Bodyline's replicas: Years ago they've sold replicas of Moitie's bat bag and IW's house bag, and they also had print replicas of AP's Fruits Parlor and Royal Poodle, as well as IW's Francois print. If I remember correctly, the print replicas had sparked some controversy on EGL back in the day when it became known that brands (understandably) blacklisted them from their tea parties. So while you can argue that Bodyline's non-print replicas may have been unintentional (doubtful, in my opinion), they definitely knew that at least some of their designs were stolen. Of course this was years ago and may not be relevant anymore, but I wanted to point this out just in case, especially since some of their replicas may still be circulating in the secondhand market.
Agreed. I'm 99% sure they knew exactly what they were doing as far as their earlier non-print stuff is concerned. There is just so much of it that was an exact 1:1 copy, and it extended past the lolita category into the punk category as well. The deorart pieces with the screen print wings come to mind, for example. Or the "Mr. Yan Wizard Hat" that was a replica of a BPN hat. I feel like the fact that a lot of it was less memorable pieces that weren't well documented anywhere (it was pre-lolibrary) also contributes to people not realizing how wide the scale of their copying was back in the day.
I also stopped supporting Bodyline around that time but now I'm thinking of getting something from them again. If they would burn bridges with you over this video that would be pathetic, they should pay you for clearing their name
I was one of those girls who won their modelling contest around 10 years ago. I was around the age of 13-14. I didnt went afterall because it was managed so extremely poorly and that was probably one of the best decisions ever.
Esmecelene Thank you for reaching out, I believe that all victims’ voices should be heard. Do you think you tell us a bit more about what the experience was like? Did you ever meet Mr. Yan or any other staff? What were they like? How were the working conditions?
So just for those who are worried about quality, a lot of their newer pieces (since the Mozart dress and onwards) have been really good quality, heavy materials that you would struggle to burn kind of quality with much better original prints than they used to do. The price has jumped to reflect that, and often when brand new their pieces start retailing at $60 as apposed to $20. So try to look through their higher priced items, they really are worth the cost and going to last you better.
the image at the end feels so threatening. like lor is my sleep paralysis demon and she's ready to jump from the screen and rob me of my life savings so she can buy 6 more angelic pretty releases
It's kinda funny, IMHO, because the "lolita costume" from 2002 at 12:18 is actually a replica/copy of something from Marble or Visible (who were/are really big on that raschel lace), but so many lolita today don't know marble/visible at all (I mean, to be fair, I can't remember which one the two made it) and it's so old that people know it more as bodyline's worst, most ita set then just a 1:1 copy of a brand set with cheaper lace.
I’m really glad Bodyline has improved since I’m been thinking of getting back into Lolita and, much like when I bought two dresses from them with my birthday money in middle school, they’re the only thing I can afford lol
I'm glad there's a change in management. I didn't realize all these events that Mr. Yan made them notorious for majorly occurred between 2009 - 2013, but it's made sense of a personal experience of mine with Bodyline. It was during this time period that I first got into the fashion, and as I was a young teen, I couldn't afford a co-ord at all but I had artistic skill, so I entered the design contest in 2012 as the winners got a free product of their design. I remember checking for results regularly and they would keep saying things like 'picking the winners' or 'slight delay in announcing the winner whilst we discuss with our designers'. I eventually gave up hope when the update hadn't changed for months. It wasn't till late 2013 that they eventually changed the update, but there was no mention of a winner, only that they had new items released. I checked the new items, and in among them was a JSK exactly to my design, lace details, bows and all, except they'd used a simple flower print and a red/brown colour palette rather than the blue mermaid print I'd designed. Unfortunately I'd changed my PC at this point and had not hopes of retrieving my original entry/design. In the time that I had waited for the results, I had ordered clothing from them and only after when I looked into the competitions did I find out how scammy the whole thing was at the time. In the years following that, as second hand brand became easier to get and more affordable for me, I slowly sold all my bodyline pieces that I could or gave them away. I haven't bought directly from them since 2013/2014, and haven't had them in my Lolita wardrobe since 2016. Now seeing that they are under new management and the new releases they've made, I may consider buying from them again xx
Fun story, I bought two of those lucky packs and along with a couple of decent pieces, a random school uniform cosplay, and a coat, I got the Mr. Yan body pillow. That doesn't live up to the legendary sleeve pack, but it certainly was a WTF moment when I opened the pack.
I recently purchased a BodyLine dress through their website (ordered in late May, arrived early September, using their free shipping option) I was shocked by how well it was made! The lace wasn't cheap or nasty at all, and the cotton of the dress is quite soft and breathable! There were a few stray threads I had to snip but overall it was beautiful, especially for just $45! edit: just realized I forgot to say what dress!! Its their Bunny Cinderella jsk in the purple colorway 🐰🐇💐💜
@@skogsdocka oh no!! You should definitely email bodyline about that! Make sure you include your order # and stuff from the original email you got from them back when you ordered and be like "wheres my package 🔪"
I remember following a blog (many years ago) specifically dedicated to Bodyline coords, and a lot of them were just stunning! It's good to know they've been working on their business model lately
Bless you for asking them about their stocking problems!! I always assumed it was something like they just straight-up didn't pay attention to what actually sold, but it is pretty hilarious to find out that that's the truth! No analytics, wow. Thank goodness the new owners have some sense. Maybe now we'll actually be able to order their shoes reliably! (I'm rightonwriteoff, thank you for addressing my question in the video 💖)
I'm realy glad to hear about the new Bodyline management. There are a few things I've seen on Bodyline that I've really wanted but morally, wasn't able to get. I'm very excited about this as I have quite a small wardrobe and I'm not in the situation where I can spend a lot on the pieces that I'm missing.
Yeah, they really shouldn't try to just brush off the controversies about the old owner; that really just makes it look like, at best, they don't care, and at worse actually condoned it. Which is... definitely not something you want people to think about you if you want your business to succeed. Also, no analytics?? That's just irresponsible. How the heck did they manage to last this long? Geez.
I’m still sorta suspicious about the new owner not wanting to be at the very least named. Usually a company owner does that so when the company does some shady dealings, they can live free from public persecution.
Not really many company owners do not like to be in the spotlight especially with smaller buisness and even very big ones like the founders of Aldi never liked to be seen.
I bought a dress from them years ago. I thought it was absolutely lovely, until I realized parts of the print were mirrored. The most noticeable part was the fact that the words “Rose Bouquet” were printed out backwards throughout the dress... I was pissed, to say the least.
I alyways use the P-mail shipping option because it's cheaper (during their sales it has also been totally free several times in the last year) and the last thing I ordered took nine days to arrive in Central Europe so it was pretty fast! However, it does not give you a tracking option and I believe it isn't insured so I'm not sure what happens if your package gets lost. But so far I have never had a problem with their shipping. Also, I'm really relieved to hear that Mr Yan is gone! I'm hoping that the new management will rename the September sale though. I honestly totally forgot about it coming up so I placed an order four days before the sale and paid for shipping when I could have gotten it for free a few days later. Oops. It's fine though, the dress was even on sale before the "birthday sale". But yeah, maybe they should just rename it to "Annual September Sale" or something so I won't have to be reminded of that horrible man. Oh and I've heard about the sleeves lucky pack thing and that's still just so funny to me fksksk
One of the things about new bodyline products i dont care for is how they really pulled back on their sizing :( the difference between sizes on some of their new pieces is 2 cm and they downsized their shoe range to just being 4 sizes
Maybe if enough of us reach out to them, it will be something they can sort out for us. I think a lot of it at the moment is that they're having to change everything and work out what sells since they didn't have analytics to go on. So they're probably starting off smaller and will hopefully listen to feedback and add more options as they go. But I think its important NOT to be put off by this, but to contact them and seeing if its something they will consider :)
Given that before now they had no idea their larger sizing sold out before the smaller sizes due to lacking analytics, it would be good for us to contact them to let them know they should bring them back!!
@@psychotophatcat Yeah the bigger size range for an affordable price has been for many lolita being the reason to buy from them. Taobao exists these days but there is still a huge amount of luck neccessary if the prouct looks like in the photos or not. With bodyline you know what you get.
I hadn't realised they were under new management, but it makes sense as they've started bringing out different kinds of items recently, and stepped up their email newsletter etc. Every time I've been back to Tokyo I've noticed more of a focus on cosplay in their Harajuku shop and less lolita, probably to cater more for the increasing numbers of tourists - I guess it has a wider appeal. Personally I have shopped at Bodyline because it's affordable - I like lolita style dresses but I don't wear them enough to justify spending a lot of money on them (as much as I'd like to!!).
I've been thinking about doing an order for a while, but felt too guilty about supporting Mr. Yan. REALLY glad you did this video! I placed an order on Sunday, and it arrived (in Canada) by WEDNESDAY. Awesome shipping time. Got 3 blouses and a bag for just under $150 total.
My first dream dress was actually a Bodyline print! I’m still pretty new to lolita so I don’t have many pieces but I searched hard to get that Bodyline piece. I love it a lot and it’s nice to wear day-to-day as I don’t have to worry so much about it getting dirty or anything compared to my Haenuli jsk. (The Bodyline print was the L580 which has skulls, pentagrams, clocks, and playing cards which I enjoy a lot)
I was a fashion student around that time, vaguely aware of alt fashions and *I* even heard about Bodyline being shady. I did have a classmate that wore that dark red and black lace costume all the time and thought it was the best thing and I was like... I'm not gonna judge but *yikes*
I also wanted to add this, I think the MD they were talking about was somehow related to data management? Since they were referring to data analytics as well (that's my guess, maybe it's a stretch tho) So i think, maybe under Mr Yan management, they would just sell stuff without keeping records of how many items they sold, they weren't collecting data at all (that's the data management part) so they couldn't see any trends in their sales and then weren't able to tell which items their customers wanted more, which ones didn't sell at all etc (the analytics part) Just my opinion
Mr. Yan definitely was something else. I still fondly remember the creepy body pillow because it was so damn weird but also fucking funny at the same time. That guy in general is just a very strange person and everything around him made for some grade A tea.
The dress you're wearing in this video (you can see the whole thing at 1:40) is so beautiful!! I love stripes and the whole sailor suit look so it's absolutely perfect. Also thank you for the warning of flashing lights!! I had a family member with epilepsy and most media didn't have a trigger warning, so it's nice to see :^)
I recently worked with bodyline too and I knew there was a bit of drama with Mr. Yan in the past but I didn't fully know all of this since I'm VERY new to the whole lolita world. Thank you for making this video and sharing all of this information, especially for new people like me! I really loved the stuff I got from them and I'm very happy to see the changes that are coming to the company!
Omg thank you so much Lor! I wanna start wearing lolita but the prices I stumble upon are oof... And I was very unsure about bodyline but now that you informed us about how they changed, I am accually willing to try it out! Thank you so much Lor. You're a lovely sweetheart
I’ve been able to dress an entire fleet of my daughters’ friends in Bodyline (no lie, 9 girls!!!). We have about 30 brand dresses in the house, but there is no way in H*LL I’m going to allow friends to wear brand. [Borrowed dresses being returned with stains, not being cleaned, missing buttons, etc....nope, no way are loans allowed anymore]. In addition, they are great for shoes if you have large feet. We’ve picked up many great blouses, too.
I love the info you give us Lor, thanks so much! We wouldn't know these things without you. For sure I stopped paying attention due to controversies too...
Also as much as I love Lolita fashion, I’m always too scared to join my local Lolita group because they all(the ones in my area) seem to be really judgemental and act like high school gossip girls. I’m hoping that this is just the case for my area and not a good amount of the Lolita fashion community.
Find a better community! Even if its just somewhere you could maybe get to on the right days. I live in a very rural area, so a lot of people in some specific areas are actually part of 2 communities because both are accessible for some meets together.
I remember when that video was released… IT WAS MAJOR CRINGE!!! Red flag after 🚩 red flag 🚩 red flag… the comments were full of warnings! It was just so shady!
I really enjoyed this video ! I've bought a blouse from bodyline a while ago, it's super uncomfortable and scratchy. I ordered something else later, but it never came.... Glad I went with Paypal and got my money back on that one ! And since then, i've been scared to use them, but I keep looking at the same pretty, cheap dress.... maybe i'll try sometime
I wear large size shoes that main brands don't have. I found bodyline had them in my sizes and would buy from them often. I remember stepping away from bodyline when the drama all started. I went to DOL for my shoes and still do because of custom sizing for shoes. I will be looking into them again. Bodyline dresses were always hit and miss, like any other brand. Honestly, I love AP and BSSB but there is nothing wrong with coords from Bodyline and other Indie brands. All companies have to start somewhere and I support all Lolitas. 💜
I think your video was really well balanced and nice, but I might be biased, cause I've been a really active lolita for few years, previously just owning a main piece and few blouses and in this time I've only had good experiences with BodyLine. I agree with you about people not recognizing BodyLine stuff. I've gone to events and people have been like:"OOoh, where is that from?" and I've kind of felt awkward saying BodyLine, cause of their questionble rep, but no one has said anything bad IRL and I found that although BodyLine has had bad reputations most lolitas I have met in real life own some of their stuff and really enjoy their stuff. Personally I really like their shoes, but they also have some really nice dresses I like. I'm glad someone made a cohesive BodyLine video putting everything together and researching a bit. I feel like they didn't really answer some of your questions super well and it is a bit weird to me if you don't talk about your owner AT ALL, but kudos to you for reaching out and at least asking the age old question what's up with their restock system.
I feel so bad for Nadia and I only found out after I bought the Love Nadia dress. In two colors. At least the money is only going to the newer management which I hope will operate in professional elegance.
I remember first coming across BodyLine years ago while looking for a cosplay from an anime I liked and that’s when I first discovered Lolita fashion. Unfortunately I never ordered anything since £30 for shipping was to expensive for 12 year old me.
Right after watching other videos on your channel THIS ONE POPPED UP AND I'M HERE FOR IT!! When I used to look up lolita fashion for plus sizes back in the day, everyone always suggested Bodyline to me but I never ordered (mostly because of my lack of matching things for a coord ㅠㅠ). I haven't even finished this one yet and I'm already commenting, haha~
I've been waiting for this video since you teased you were working on it on Twitter! I'm so glad you're talking about this issue in a clear and concise manner. Not much recent information can be found on everything that happened, so it's good you made this video so that newcomers to the fashion can learn about all of Bodyline's past issues.
I remember when the whole Bodyline thing happened and I too stopped shopping there. But if they are looking to clean up their image and serve the community right, then I say good for them! I might have to check them out now ...
Honestly, I'm glad you made a video about them. Knowing their past and how they are now being run completely differently actually makes me want to go and order from them.
AP is my main brand, but I love my sax Magical Trump op from Bodyline! It's super cute and I always get compliments when I wear it to meets! And like you said, people who don't recognize it are surprised it's Bodyline because it's such an adorable dress lol. A lot of Bodyline pieces are way underrated tbh
The only thing I ever bought from them was a costume actually (kyary pamyu pamyu fashion monster outfit), and it was REALLY well done and made me want to buy some of their real stuff but I uh, never got around to it. Plus the wig was like 16 dollars and really good quality.
Oh the nostalgia. My first not awfully ita items were from them, and one of my skirts from like 2010 still holds up to this day. They definitely had a lot of crappy lace monsters though. And the entire Mr. Yan fiascos ... It went so quiet around them that I thought they were basically gone. But if they got rid of Mr. Yan I guess I might shop from them again. With how great Chinese brands have become I saw no reason to support them with someone like Mr Yan at the company.
I started out with Bodyline after watching youtube videos, mainly princess peachie. after all the drama I stop buying from them but kept the stuff I already brought. It's been a long while since I worn the fashion as it's just uncomfortable for me and I've moved on to other fashions but I still have all my pieces from them and my big brand pieces in case I ever do want to wear it. I'm happy to see it has better owners and hope it gets better so it can still be used by beginners. Their shoes are pretty good.
Bodyline literally had a Fruits Parlor replica which is a big difference from a design replica, but I hope they're able to move on smoothly and without controversy.
Thank you for this video Lor! It was very educating for me and I am glad that Bodyline is changing. Also you look amazing with this dress and your make-up!
I know this video is 3 years old. But I LOVE Yoshiko's designs. Some of my fav prints like military sweets (I am so glad I have that op in black but I want it in green) but they have some very nice prints.
I'm glad you posted this. I believe in second chances, especially when new management is involved. I message Bodyline via Facebook a few months ago, asking about some boots I've wanted for ages but that haven't been restocked. It took a few days but I eventually got a message back stating that they were rebranding and to visit the new website 'soon'. I'm not entirely sure the new site is finished as there are still a lot of out of stock items but I really hope they can bring the brand back to life :) I'm not a lolita, even though I own a few AP pieces, I've never worked up the courage to dress in full lolita. But I've always admired the fashion and like to have bits to work in to my other looks. So it would be great to see a more affordable brand back on the scene
Bodyline just posted a sale celebrating Mr. Yan's birthday and I don't know why they would do that if they are (or were(?)) trying to like, extricate themselves from him
The time frame when bodyline was super popular/controversial was when I was really up to date with stuff in the lolita community. I remember all of this being talked about except for Yoshiko. I had no idea she was a designer, I really loved a lot of dresses that came out during that time!
Idk I kind of want to know who the new ceo is in order to make sure that they have no relation to Mr. Yan like a sibling or something. It’s great that they don’t want to exploit the company like Mr. Yan but I would still like some basic info about them.
bodyline's stocking issues are absolutely insane. there are so many popular items that they no longer stock, which are now near impossible to find, or scalped to death on places like depop and mercari. they need to restock the ribbon panniers, i will buy the light pink one in an instant.
thank you for making this video, i didnt know about their rebranding!!! i remember then having a controversy a few years ago where it was found out that they didnt have good protection in place for ppls credit cards or something?? along with mr yan being creepy, that really soured them for me. however, this new management seems really good, and when i have more money, i hope to start buying my lolita shoes from them again!!!
very good video but i wished Lovely put the good lace example at 12:57 to also be a black dress with white lace since i and many other people with visual problems have a very hard time to seeing detailing that is white on white
A quick few comments from a lolita who was there when this happened: -Bodyline Replicas: As another commenter mentioned below YES BODYLINE MADE DESIGN AND PRINT REPLICAS, including AP's Fruits Parlor and several other popular designs. These were eventually removed from the website after the controversy they sparked and many lolitas contacted Bodyline telling them to remove them. (But an AP design replica stayed and is still available to this day.) -Mr. Yan body pillow: Yes Mr Yan had a body pillow but this was made mostly because lolitas on the egl comm decided to ask him to do it as a joke. It became kind of a meme and because he was known for being so vain; so we repeatedly requested on Bodyline's social media and at the meets of his Mr Yan Tours the World or w/e until he thought we genuinely wanted one and made it. Many bought it, and then used it for the most stupid and memey jokes humanly possible to make fun of him. -P-mail: currently available for orders over 2,000¥ ($20) (I believe, been a while since I looked) this is free airmail. It does come with tracking. It takes roughly a month to get to you on continental US, and if your order has several things in it it will come in multiple unmarked packages; but the items inside are always packed pretty nicely. Shoes still come inside their boxes. I love Bodyline and have ordered from them recently and will continue to do so unless they give me a reason not to, which hopefully doesn't happen!

I remember the video. She was very uncomfortable.
the dress you're wearing + your black hair reminds me of the "American Girl" character Samantha, it's very cute!
Omg I couldn't place who she reminded me of, but that's exactly it!
I loved Samantha!
Oh yeah! 😆

Thank you for reaching out, I believe that all victims’ voices should be heard.
Do you think you tell us a bit more about what the experience was like? Did you ever meet Mr. Yan or any other staff? What were they like? How were the working conditions?
@@AshHeaven I might do a video on it soon! Keep you posted

"Lolitas hold grudges."
The damn truth.
Thanks for the review! Also, I'm just imagining someone trying to start a bodyline bonfire ahaha
the image at the end feels so threatening. like lor is my sleep paralysis demon and she's ready to jump from the screen and rob me of my life savings so she can buy 6 more angelic pretty releases
I'm sorry lor you're lovely (this pun wasn't planned) I promise
All I remember is “MR.YAN SO DREAMY SALE” :)
Lor, doing the real consumer research we need!
Caitlynn Smith omg! I have this JSK in the Black colorway and I agree!!
Caitlynn Smith Yes I have this dress in the same color way and it’s gorgeous!!
I ordered in March and never got my package. :( happy to hear you got it though!
@@skogsdocka oh no!! You should definitely email bodyline about that! Make sure you include your order # and stuff from the original email you got from them back when you ordered and be like "wheres my package 🔪"
It's a beautiful dress :3 I have it in gray ♡
Imagine if the new owner is still just Mr. Yan but he's pretending it's a new owner
Please don't even joke about that *shudder*
I remember following a blog (many years ago) specifically dedicated to Bodyline coords, and a lot of them were just stunning! It's good to know they've been working on their business model lately
I follow the same blog, I think its called "We Love Bodyline"
One of my favorite Tumblrs was something like "bodylineneedsbetterstockphotos" lmao
Oh yeah, that's the one!
Hahaha, that name is amazing!!
LOR A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T READ DESCRIPTIONS PLS MAKE A PINNED COMMENT FOR THE FLASHING IMAGES!!!
I fully question if Bodyline moving into Lolita wear was to help Mr Yan groom young girls.
Geez.
This is really useful for someone that has no knowledge about them. (aka me)
I’m still sorta suspicious about the new owner not wanting to be at the very least named. Usually a company owner does that so when the company does some shady dealings, they can live free from public persecution.
Ninja Cookie I’m feeling the same like how do we know Mr.Yan isn’t still the owner and just hired new management to save his company?
Not really many company owners do not like to be in the spotlight especially with smaller buisness and even very big ones like the founders of Aldi never liked to be seen.
IKR they could really just be playing a Jeffree Star and Morphe type deal.
Mr Yan is creepy, glad he is gone
One of the things about new bodyline products i dont care for is how they really pulled back on their sizing :( the difference between sizes on some of their new pieces is 2 cm and they downsized their shoe range to just being 4 sizes
FattyChan this! I really liked their shoes but as a 26.5cm, it’s just another brand whose shoes I can’t fit
You know it's something wild when "quality" comes after "stalking problem"
Brasstail I like that print too. It is very witchy. I was thinking about getting it.
I’d recommend it! Or if you’re looking for something similar Ista Mori’s Alice and Alice is currently on lacemarket for £72.
Since they were referring to data analytics as well (that's my guess, maybe it's a stretch tho)
So i think, maybe under Mr Yan management, they would just sell stuff without keeping records of how many items they sold, they weren't collecting data at all (that's the data management part) so they couldn't see any trends in their sales and then weren't able to tell which items their customers wanted more, which ones didn't sell at all etc (the analytics part)
Just my opinion
Mr. Yan definitely was something else.
I still fondly remember the creepy body pillow because it was so damn weird but also fucking funny at the same time.
That guy in general is just a very strange person and everything around him made for some grade A tea.
He is like a real life anime character who is narcissistic, socially akward, and pervert.
Lol sew all the detachable sleeves together and make an octopus skirt, that's a look
The dress you're wearing in this video (you can see the whole thing at 1:40) is so beautiful!! I love stripes and the whole sailor suit look so it's absolutely perfect.
Also thank you for the warning of flashing lights!! I had a family member with epilepsy and most media didn't have a trigger warning, so it's nice to see :^)
I had no idea Mr. Yan was gone. Thank goodness!
I visited their store often in Tokyo and they definitely have changed! I worked with them on Instagram too and they are so nice!!
Omg thank you so much Lor! I wanna start wearing lolita but the prices I stumble upon are oof... And I was very unsure about bodyline but now that you informed us about how they changed, I am accually willing to try it out!
Thank you so much Lor. You're a lovely sweetheart
Thank you for bringing up mr Yan. I've avoided shopping with them because I didn't realize he wasn't with the company anymore.
I remember making Mr.Yan memes back in the days..
This fit is SO pretty. I think I just love when you wear your really hair out
I feel so bad for Nadia and I only found out after I bought the Love Nadia dress. In two colors. At least the money is only going to the newer management which I hope will operate in professional elegance.
I legit forgot about this company. Happy to hear they are and have made changes...but that body pillow is gonna give me nightmares now.
I remember first coming across BodyLine years ago while looking for a cosplay from an anime I liked and that’s when I first discovered Lolita fashion. Unfortunately I never ordered anything since £30 for shipping was to expensive for 12 year old me.
oh god i forgot about the body pillow
Gosh I feel old. I remember when bodyline was very hit or miss
Despite mr yan's issue, I guess bodyline's biggest problem is they tried to copy (or imitate) other brands' design lol
I've been waiting for this video since you teased you were working on it on Twitter! I'm so glad you're talking about this issue in a clear and concise manner. Not much recent information can be found on everything that happened, so it's good you made this video so that newcomers to the fashion can learn about all of Bodyline's past issues.
"CW - Mr Yan" 😂
15:45 I HAVE THAT SKIRT xDDDD found it secondhand when I was 15 and I thought it was the best thing ever.
THE LEFT SLEEVES I FORGOT ABOUT THAT WOWWWWWWW lmao thank you for tacking that on at the end xD
It's funny bc I've started using body line like 4months ago so their only site I know is actually the new one
What brand are your lashes? They are beautiful!
I don't know I'm sorry haaha I just bought them wholesale on ebay
I think I may check this brand out, some of their dresses are really pretty
AP is my main brand, but I love my sax Magical Trump op from Bodyline! It's super cute and I always get compliments when I wear it to meets! And like you said, people who don't recognize it are surprised it's Bodyline because it's such an adorable dress lol. A lot of Bodyline pieces are way underrated tbh
I appreciated this video. Thanks. I'm a newbie to Lolita and was basically told Body Line was kinda okay to use but if you don't have to then don't.
The only thing I ever bought from them was a costume actually (kyary pamyu pamyu fashion monster outfit), and it was REALLY well done and made me want to buy some of their real stuff but I uh, never got around to it. Plus the wig was like 16 dollars and really good quality.
This is good news that they are under new management. I always wanted to shop at bodyline because it was cheap but I heard the stories and never did.
That's some creepy stuff about Mr. Yan.. what a wolf. 🐺
Oh dark hair look so cute with your outfit!
Thank you for this video Lor! It was very educating for me and I am glad that Bodyline is changing. Also you look amazing with this dress and your make-up!
I want balloon bears, and squirrel party restocked sooooo bad 😭😹
Rhyan I ordered squirrel party at the beginning of the month! (:
love those lashes!! you look amazing here~
I know this video is 3 years old.
Yan's birthday and I don't know why they would do that if they are (or were(?)) trying to like, extricate themselves from him
My very first lolita shoes and dress (OP) were from bodyline, I’ll never forget that day lol.
Regarding replicas, they actually did some exact copies, for example compare Angelic Pretty's Fruits Parlor and Bodyline's Soda Stripe.
thank you for making this video, i didnt know about their rebranding!!! i remember then having a controversy a few years ago where it was found out that they didnt have good protection in place for ppls credit cards or something?? along with mr yan being creepy, that really soured them for me. however, this new management seems really good, and when i have more money, i hope to start buying my lolita shoes from them again!!!
very good video but i wished Lovely put the good lace example at 12:57 to also be a black dress with white lace since i and many other people with visual problems have a very hard time to seeing detailing that is white on white
Lor I found the video very interesting, thanks for doing
I hope bodyline will restock their Rocking Horse Shoes soon.
A quick few comments from a lolita who was there when this happened:
-Bodyline Replicas: As another commenter mentioned below YES BODYLINE MADE DESIGN AND PRINT REPLICAS, including AP's Fruits Parlor and several other popular designs. These were eventually removed from the website after the controversy they sparked and many lolitas contacted Bodyline telling them to remove them. (But an AP design replica stayed and is still available to this day.)
-Mr.
