    Cabinetry is definitely a Niche reserved for very experienced wood workers with patience and a very disciplined routine. There can be large sums of money for it, but it can be very daunting getting into it.

    I build wall decor, cornhole boards and keepsake boxes. These items have done well, but not enough to quit day job.

      My hats off to you if you are a successful cabinet maker. There's so much more involved than measure twice and cut.

    Just subbed! I agree with built in's, lots of money to be made but I refuse to do another one. I hate working in someone else's home. One and done for me. Looking forward to future content from you, maybe we can collab in the future.

    What do you think about outdoor furniture...patio seating , picnic tables. That's something I was thinking of going into.

      I'm relatively new to this but that's the what I decided my niche was gonna be. And although it's in the early stages, so far so good.

      You can definitely make that work! I know lots of small businesses that are killing it in this niche as well. You just need to make sure you're using the most weatherproof wood species that you can and comboing it with a great outdoor finish so you keep happy customers and don't have lots of rework down the road. :) Thanks for the comment!

    I ABSOLUTELY hate my customers looking over my shoulder, or just watching me work. I have had to make very strict rules for myself and my customers. Once that is established, I can produce excellent work even though if I have to re-do it multiple times!

    What are some good ways to get your name out there as a woodworker and sell your work. I have started my own woodworking business here in Canada. But I am really struggling to get traffic and get projects moving out of the shop. I find it's way too expensive to ship items which limits my reach. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @thewoodworkingbusinesscoach
      @thewoodworkingbusinesscoach  Год назад +3

      There are multiple different ways to get your name out there, but it’s hard to know what will work in your market without just trying them all. You can run digital advertising like Facebook ads, you can promote to your local Facebook groups, you can sell on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace, you can do trade shows, you can set up consignment relationships. There really are lots of ways. The trick is just to pick one and work it as hard as you can and see what kind of results it gets you. 😊👍🏼

      What do you recommend is the best way to get started in the cabinetry business? I want to eventually own my own business one day but I am a complete beginner and I don't know if I should learn a few things in school or try to find a job and work my way up.

    4:26 I don’t mind working in homes at all. The high-value work you do with experience and ingenuity is done off-site with nobody seeing how “easy” it is to do, is precise with proper measures and planning so “mistakes” basically don’t happen to embarrass you, and you can actually explain how you overcame the challenges which may lead to customer referrals. It’s a marketing opportunity- “always be selling.” 85% of the selling happens after the sale: the customer becomes your sculpture as you install. 5:55 kitchen cabinets- mistakes don’t happen here, either, following methodical, meticulous measurements and planning; you incorporate ‘buffers’ into the cabinet frames and boxes for custom fitting and build cabinets that fit the walls and space instead of making perfect boxes that fit a framing square.

    Cutting boards is a heavily saturated market.

    • @thewoodworkingbusinesscoach
      @thewoodworkingbusinesscoach  Год назад +3

      That’s very true, but it’s saturated because there’s money to made. That true about all saturated markets. It just takes figuring out how to differentiate yourself to stand out and charge premium prices that will allow you to take market share. 😊
